On the downside, the expert review notes that fuel economy is poor and advanced safety features are not standard.

The expert notes also reinforce that it’s built around a durable, all-weather formula rather than a fragile performance setup. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about basic satisfaction and more about how the car was driven and maintained.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Subaru WRX?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 81.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on every candidate and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been modified or driven hard. Focus on overall condition, signs of wear, and whether the car’s equipment matches the trim you’re considering. Because this model has enthusiast appeal, careful screening matters more than usual.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Base-trim cars use a more unusual dual 7-inch display setup, while premium-trim and higher models get the 11.6-inch tablet-style touchscreen. Base and Premium trims also miss blind-spot monitoring with lane-change assist and rear cross-traffic alert, which are standard on Limited and GT.
• Powertrain: The WRX uses a 2.4-liter turbocharged boxer four-cylinder with standard all-wheel drive. You can choose a six-speed manual or a CVT, and the manual keeps continuous AWD split 50/50 front to rear.
• Safety package: EyeSight comes standard on CVT-equipped models and includes automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, lane-tracing assist, automatic steering assist, and an electronic brake booster. Manual-transmission cars do not get EyeSight.
• Infotainment: Premium-trim or higher models get the 11.6-inch touchscreen, while base trims use two stacked 7-inch displays. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are supported, and an 11-speaker Harmon Kardon stereo is available.
• Fuel efficiency: Subaru says the WRX should return 19 mpg city, 26 highway, and 22 combined.

Which 2022 Subaru WRX trim should I buy?

The 2022 Subaru WRX is offered in 4 trim levels: base, Premium, Limited, GT.

Here's the short version:

• base: This is the entry point if you want the WRX formula at the lowest cost, but you give up the larger 11.6-inch touchscreen and the standard blind-spot monitoring package found higher up the range. It suits you if you care most about the core performance and all-wheel-drive hardware.
• Premium: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the 11.6-inch touchscreen and keeps the WRX’s enthusiast-friendly character intact. It also brings the external transmission-fluid cooler, and Subaru expects this trim to be the most popular choice.
• Limited: This is the trim to choose if you want the added safety package, since it includes blind-spot monitoring with lane-change assist and rear cross-traffic alert. It makes the most sense if you want a more complete daily driver without jumping to the top trim.
• GT: This is the most specialized version, with Recaro seats, electronically controlled dampers, and Drive Mode Select. It is CVT-only, so it suits you best if you want the most feature-rich WRX and don’t need a manual.

The safety package is standard on CVT-equipped models, while manual cars do not get EyeSight.

What is the 2022 Subaru WRX's resale value?

The current average of $25,602 sits slightly below last year's $27,339.

That softer pricing suggests the WRX has already moved into a more buyer-friendly range, which can help future sellers if demand stays steady. The market still shows meaningful interest in the model, which should help support used demand.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

It earns a 5/10 safety score from our experts.

CVT-equipped models come standard with Subaru’s EyeSight suite, which includes automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, lane-tracing assist, automatic steering assist, and an electronic brake booster. Should I buy a 2022 Subaru WRX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.35% compared with last year.

Consider the 2021 if:

• It emphasizes driving enjoyment over refinement.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $27,771, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $25,602 average.
• It keeps the same enthusiast-focused lineup with no changes.
