Used 2022 Subaru Outback for Sale nearCincinnati, OH

How much does the 2022 Subaru Outback cost?

Prices have softened 7.75% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,275 listings available, which suggests solid inventory availability.

Is the 2022 Subaru Outback a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Subaru Outback earns a 4.75/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its safety features, value for the price, and performance in snowy conditions. They also like the driving experience and the rugged look, which fits the Outback Wilderness’s more adventure-focused personality. The main trade-offs are that the power, especially from the base engine, could be better, and the infotainment system can feel complicated.

That mix makes sense if you want a practical daily driver with extra capability for rough weather and outdoor travel. It also lines up with the model’s broader appeal as a versatile wagon-like SUV with standard advanced safety features.

Good and great deals account for 35.5% of listings, which gives you a decent chance of finding a competitive price.

Is the 2022 Subaru Outback reliable?

Owners rate it 4.75/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a reliable, trouble-free ownership experience, with praise for safety, comfort, and confidence in snowy conditions. The expert review also emphasizes that the Outback is built to serve as a comfortable daily driver that can handle harsh weather and weekend travel with ease.

Subaru’s EyeSight system is calibrated to preserve its effectiveness, which supports the vehicle’s dependability in everyday use. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the core platform and more about whether a specific vehicle has been modified, neglected, or overworked.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Subaru Outback?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper records review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on the drivetrain, tires, brakes, and any signs of off-road use or heavy wear. Since this version is aimed at rougher conditions, pay close attention to underbody condition, interior durability, and whether the tech and safety systems work as intended.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Wilderness trim adds a higher ride height, more aggressive all-terrain tires, revised bumpers, black 17-inch wheels, and rugged exterior and interior touches. It also includes heated seats instead of ventilated seats, so the feature mix is more adventure-focused than luxury-focused.
• Powertrain: Every Wilderness uses a turbocharged 2.4-liter flat-four with 260 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque, plus standard all-wheel drive. It also has a CVT with eight programmed ratios and paddle shifters, and the setup is tuned for traction and towing rather than sporty acceleration.
• Safety package: EyeSight includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, lane-centering assistance, and a driver monitoring system. It also adds steering-responsive headlights, blind-spot warning with lane-change assistance, and rear cross-traffic warning, while DriverFocus is reserved for Limited and Touring trims.
• Infotainment: You get an 11.6-inch portrait-oriented touchscreen, plus Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The system relies heavily on the touchscreen, and the voice recognition works best when you learn the proper prompts.
• Fuel efficiency: The Wilderness is rated at 24 mpg in combined driving, and the expert test drive returned 21.3 mpg on a mountainous route.

Which 2022 Subaru Outback trim should I buy?

The 2022 Subaru Outback is offered in 1 trim level: Wilderness.

Here's the short version:

The Wilderness is the clear choice if you want the most capable, most distinctive version of this Outback. It adds the lifted stance, all-terrain tires, skid-plate protection, revised bumpers, and off-road-focused traction hardware that define this model year’s personality. It also brings the strongest fit for buyers who expect to spend time in snow, on trails, or on rough roads.

Because there’s only one trim here, the decision is less about comparing versions and more about deciding whether the Wilderness’s rugged setup matches your needs. If you want a more road-focused Outback, this one may feel too specialized.

The safety package is standard on this trim, but DriverFocus is not included.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Subaru Outback?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay patient.

• Deal availability: 35.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,275 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.75% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 85.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $23,895, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Subaru Outback's resale value?

The current average of $23,895 sits slightly below last year's $25,901.

That softer pricing suggests the market has moved in buyers’ favor, which can make future resale more competitive if you buy at the right number. If you pay close to the current average, your room for appreciation is limited, so condition and mileage matter even more when it comes time to sell.

The Wilderness trim’s distinct appeal may help it hold interest among shoppers who want capability and rugged styling. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.75/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Subaru Outback safe?

The 2022 Subaru Outback Wilderness was not crash-tested in this review, but the standard Outback earned a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

EyeSight is the core driver-assistance suite, and it includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, lane-centering assistance, and a driver monitoring system. The Wilderness also adds steering-responsive headlights, blind-spot warning with lane-change assistance, and rear cross-traffic warning.

One important caveat is that DriverFocus is not available on the Wilderness; it’s limited to Limited and Touring trims. The expert review also notes that EyeSight can become less effective if owners modify the vehicle in ways that disrupt factory calibration.

Should I buy a 2022 Subaru Outback or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 35.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.75% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.75/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds the new Wilderness trim, giving you a more capable, adventure-focused Outback.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $22,215, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $23,895 average.
• It emphasizes practicality, reliability, and low-cost ownership.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $26,021, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $23,895 average.
• It brings fresh styling and updated infotainment and safety tech.

The bottom line: If you want the Wilderness-specific capability and can live with its rugged personality, the 2022 is the better pick. If your priority is saving money, the 2021 is the value play. If you want newer updates and are willing to pay more, the 2023 is the step up.
