Is the 2022 Nissan Rogue reliable?

The variable-compression turbo engine is described as operating transparently, with efficiency rising when less power is needed and more punch available when you ask for it.

The ownership picture is helped by the model’s strong efficiency and broad standard equipment, and the available maintenance perk language points to a more appealing ownership experience for shoppers who value convenience. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure the vehicle’s condition and service history match its strong reputation.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Nissan Rogue?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re comparing multiple trims or higher-mileage examples. Focus on overall condition, feature operation, and whether the vehicle has the equipment you want, since trim content changes the ownership experience meaningfully.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base S trim starts the lineup, while higher trims add more convenience and luxury features. The SL and Platinum bring more upscale equipment, and the SL and Platinum also add LED foglamps.
• Powertrain: The Rogue uses a 1.5-liter VC-Turbo inline three-cylinder engine with 201 horsepower and 225 lb-ft of torque, paired with a new CVT. It’s tuned for stronger response and better efficiency than the previous setup.
• Safety package: Nissan Safety Shield 360 is standard across all trim levels and includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, high beam assist, and rear automatic braking. Blind spot intervention and traffic sign recognition are available, and ProPilot Assist adds steering assist and adaptive cruise control.
• Infotainment: The Rogue has a 9-inch center infotainment touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and wireless Apple CarPlay on upper trim levels. Upper trims also get a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and a 10.8-inch head-up display.
• Fuel efficiency: The Rogue is rated at 30 mpg city, 37 mpg highway, and 33 mpg combined.

Which 2022 Nissan Rogue trim should I buy?

The 2022 Nissan Rogue is offered in 4 trim levels: S, SV, SL, Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Rogue’s core value proposition with standard Safety Shield 360 and the new turbocharged powertrain. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model.
• SV: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds useful equipment without pushing you into the highest price tiers. It’s the trim to target if you want a balanced mix of features and price.
• SL: This is the sweet spot if you want the strongest blend of comfort, tech, and value. It can be paired with the Premium Package for BOSE premium audio, navigation, and ProPilot Assist with Navi-Link.
• Platinum: This is the most upscale choice, with the richest feature set and the most premium feel. It suits you if you want the top trim and are willing to pay for it.

Safety Shield 360 is standard across the lineup, so you don’t need to move up a trim just to get the core safety suite.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Nissan Rogue?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 38.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 9,758 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.63% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 85.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $19,121, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Nissan Rogue's resale value?

The current average of $19,121 sits slightly below last year's $22,664.

That price movement suggests the Rogue has become more accessible in the used market, which can help you buy at a lower entry point today. For a future seller, the softer pricing means resale upside may depend more on condition, mileage, and equipment than on broad market momentum.

Because the model still has strong demand indicators and a solid reputation for satisfaction, well-kept examples should remain easier to move than neglected ones. Trim content and feature set will matter, especially if you’re trying to maximize what buyers will pay later.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Nissan Rogue safe?

The 2022 Nissan Rogue received a four-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA), and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave the 2021 Nissan Rogue a Top Safety Pick+ rating.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Nissan Safety Shield 360 is standard across all trim levels and includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, high beam assist, and rear automatic braking. The Rogue also includes ten supplemental airbags, extended crumple zones, Intelligent Driver Alertness, and rear door alert.

ProPilot Assist adds steering assist and adaptive cruise control, and the available ProPilot Assist with Navi-Link layers in navigation-based predictive speed control. That gives you a strong standard safety foundation, with more advanced driver-assist capability available if you move up the lineup.

Should I buy a 2022 Nissan Rogue or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 38.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.63% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds a new turbocharged engine and transmission for stronger performance and better efficiency.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $18,134, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $19,121 average.
• It offers a polished redesign with a premium-feeling interior.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $21,670, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $19,121 average.
• It adds trim-specific updates like Midnight Edition and Amazon Alexa compatibility.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of updated powertrain, strong safety, and current-market value, the 2022 is the primary pick. If your budget is tighter, the 2021 is the lower-cost alternative; if you want newer trim-specific features, the 2023 is worth a look.
