CarGurus Analysis: 2021 Nissan Rogue
overall

Summary
With 305 currently listed for sale near Cincinnati, OH and an average price of $19,069, 31.1% of 2021 Nissan Rogues for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Nissan Rogue 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 9 / 10.
96.1% of 2021 Rogue models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2021 Nissan Rogue stands out as a carefully executed redesign of one of Nissan’s most important vehicles. It is described as all-new, and the test-drive summary says the new Rogue is a better SUV in every way but one. That makes it appealing to shoppers who want a compact crossover that feels thoroughly updated rather than lightly revised.
Its strongest traits are easy to understand: stylish design, great ride quality, and premium interior materials. Those qualities give the 2021 Rogue a more upscale feel than its mainstream mission might suggest, and the owner feedback reinforces that impression by praising the smooth and refined ride, attractive design, and roomy interior. For buyers who value comfort and a polished cabin, those are meaningful advantages.
The main drawback is performance, which is called fairly pedestrian, and the stereo is also lacking. In other words, the 2021 Nissan Rogue is strongest when judged as a comfortable, well-finished family crossover, but it is less compelling if a buyer wants strong acceleration or a standout audio system.

For the amount features you get with this car for the price, it’s absolutely amazing. I would only wish that the lip of leather that sticks out in between the screen and middle vents wasn’t there because I feel like it blocks the airflow just a bit. And even then, I love everything else so much that that isn’t too big of a deal. The sun and moonroof is gorgeous, the leather interior and overall space is to die for, and it drive so smooth. Would definitely recommend.

I think the Rogue is an outstanding value…great size/plenty of room and safety features/good gas mileage and quality materials. My Rogue is missing Navigation and a cargo cover. I’d compare my Rogue to a RAV4 or Subaru Outback.

We have had a few Rogues in my family over the years and have never had any issues. The simple key is to keep up with maintenance schedule and not to be heavy footed. This purchase was a 2021 because it has the same 2.5 motor.- not sure yet to the new 3 liter with a turbo. 2021 is sleeker with a more firm drive. I also was looking at Mazda cx-5 for also being a sound 2.5 liter with quality reputation and great price point.

| Average Price a Year Ago | $20,971 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −10.29% |

There are 3,971 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for comparison shopping.
Is the 2021 Nissan Rogue a good car?
Yes — the 2021 Nissan Rogue earns a 5/5 user rating and a 9.00/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Technology at 10/10.
Owners consistently praise the smooth and refined ride, attractive design, roomy interior, and strong value for the price. Those themes line up well with the Rogue’s use case as a comfortable, polished compact crossover for everyday family duty.
The main trade-offs are fairly pedestrian performance and a stereo that does not stand out. Even so, the Rogue’s upscale cabin feel and comfort-focused tuning make it a strong fit if you want a well-rounded small SUV rather than a sporty one.
With 32.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is meaningful market opportunity if you shop carefully.
Is the 2021 Nissan Rogue reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback points to a dependable-feeling ownership experience, with repeated praise for the smooth ride, roomy cabin, and overall value. The expert drive notes also describe the CVT as a good one because you barely notice it, and the SUV’s ride and handling are tuned to feel predictable, smooth, and athletic.
The cost-effectiveness coverage also notes that the Rogue does not offer a free maintenance program, so long-term ownership costs still depend on how well you maintain it.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright durability and more about making sure the vehicle has been cared for consistently.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Nissan Rogue?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 75.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper records review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on the cabin, electronics, and how smoothly the drivetrain behaves in everyday driving. Since owners value comfort and refinement, condition matters a lot here.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The S trim is the entry point and includes the basics, while the SV adds more convenience and is typically the most popular trim level. The SL adds a little luxury, and Platinum brings the most upscale cabin treatment with semi-aniline quilted leather and other premium touches. Base-trim shoppers should pay close attention to feature gaps if they want more than the essentials.
- Powertrain: The Rogue uses a direct-injected 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 181 horsepower and 181 pound-feet of torque, paired with a CVT. It is adequate for daily driving, but the engine is described as needing more power.
- Safety package: Every Rogue gets Nissan Safety Shield 360, including automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, blind-spot warning, and rear cross-traffic alert. Adaptive cruise control starts with the SV as part of ProPilot Assist, and the SV also adds a surround-view camera system.
- Infotainment: S trim gets an 8-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth, SiriusXM satellite radio, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Higher trims add NissanConnect Services, WiFi hotspot capability, Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant integration, and on select packages or Platinum, a 9-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay.
- Fuel efficiency: The tested front-wheel-drive SL returned 27.5 mpg on a mixed driving loop.
Which 2021 Nissan Rogue trim should I buy?
The 2021 Nissan Rogue is offered in 4 trim levels: S, SV, SL, Platinum.
Here's the short version:
- S: This is the value entry point if you want the Rogue’s core comfort, safety, and infotainment without paying for extras. It gives you the essentials, including the standard safety suite and an 8-inch touchscreen, but it is the trim where feature gaps are most likely to matter if you want more convenience or luxury.
- SV: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds meaningful everyday upgrades, including ProPilot Assist with lane-centering and a surround-view camera system. It is the trim to target if you want the strongest balance of price and equipment.
- SL: This is the right choice if you want a more upscale feel, with added luxury touches and access to premium packages. It suits you if cabin quality and extra tech matter more than keeping the purchase price down.
- Platinum: This is the top choice if you want the most premium Rogue experience, including quilted semi-aniline leather, ambient lighting, a larger touchscreen, and the most advanced tech features. It is the trim to buy if you want the most luxurious version of this model year.
Safety Shield 360 is standard across the lineup, while adaptive cruise control begins with the SV.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Nissan Rogue?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay disciplined.
- Deal availability: 32.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 3,971 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.29% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 75.7% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $18,813, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Nissan Rogue's resale value?
The current average of $18,813 sits slightly below last year's $20,971.
That price movement suggests the Rogue has already absorbed a meaningful amount of market softening, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price now. If you purchase near the lower end of the range, you reduce the risk of overpaying before resale.
The Rogue’s broad appeal, strong owner satisfaction, and comfort-focused reputation should help support demand when it is time to sell. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Nissan Rogue safe?
The 2021 Nissan Rogue earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Every Rogue comes with Nissan Safety Shield 360, which includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, blind-spot warning, and rear cross-traffic alert. It also includes ten airbags, a driver monitoring system, and a rear-seat reminder system. Adaptive cruise control begins with the SV trim through ProPilot Assist, and the SV adds a surround-view camera system.
The safety coverage is broad, but the system can still behave in unanticipated ways and issue frequent audible notifications. That means you should test the driver-assistance features yourself during a used-car inspection to make sure they suit your preferences.
Should I buy a 2021 Nissan Rogue or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 32.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 75.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.29% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The redesign brings a better ride, upscale interior materials, and a much stronger technology package.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $15,626, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $18,813 average.
- It is an older, familiar crossover with comfort, cargo space, and gas mileage as recurring strengths.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $19,741, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $18,813 average.
- It adds a new turbocharged engine and improved fuel economy.
The bottom line: If you want the best blend of comfort, tech, and overall satisfaction, the 2021 is the strongest pick. If your priority is saving money above all else, the 2020 is the cheaper route, while the 2022 makes sense if you want the newer powertrain and can stretch your budget.
