Is the 2022 Nissan Pathfinder reliable?

The owner feedback points to a dependable-feeling SUV with comfortable seating, a spacious interior, and smooth performance. That combination suggests you can count on it as a family hauler, especially if you value comfort and everyday usability.

The powertrain is described as smooth through the gears, and the overall package is aimed at reassuring, well-rounded ownership. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure the transmission behavior and overall condition match the vehicle’s service history.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Nissan Pathfinder?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, since accident-free listings are strong but not universal. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on the transmission, third-row usability, and overall interior condition. It also makes sense to compare trim equipment closely so you know whether the features you want are actually present.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Pathfinder comes in S, SV, SL, and Platinum trims. Base S models are the most stripped-down, while SV and higher add a panoramic moonroof and roof rack, and Platinum brings the most upscale interior treatment plus captain’s chairs.
• Powertrain: The 3.5-liter V6 makes 284 horsepower and is paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. You can shop FWD or AWD versions, and AWD models add more drive and terrain modes.
• Safety package: Nissan Safety Shield 360 is standard and includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, high-beam assist, rear automatic braking, driver alertness monitor, rear door alert, and forward-collision warning. Upper trims add a surround-view monitor.
• Infotainment: Standard equipment includes an 8-inch touchscreen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, satellite radio, voice recognition, and a 7-inch digital driver-information display. Upper trims add a 9-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless charging, and NissanConnect Services.
• Fuel efficiency: The FWD model is rated at 21 mpg city and 26 mpg highway, while AWD versions are rated at 21 mpg city and 27 mpg highway. The Platinum AWD returns 20 mpg city and 25 mpg highway.

Which 2022 Nissan Pathfinder trim should I buy?

The 2022 Nissan Pathfinder is offered in 4 trim levels: S, SV, SL, and Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Pathfinder experience with standard safety tech, an 8-inch touchscreen, and three-row seating. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model, but it is the most basic version.
• SV: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds meaningful convenience and comfort upgrades without jumping all the way to luxury pricing. If you want a more complete daily driver, this is the trim to focus on first.
• SL: This trim adds a more upscale feel with semi-aniline leather-appointed seating and access to more premium tech and audio equipment. It suits you if you want a nicer cabin and are willing to pay for it.
• Platinum: This is the top trim, with the most premium interior treatment, captain’s chairs, a fully digital 12.3-inch instrument panel, and a head-up display. Choose it if you want the most feature-rich Pathfinder.

Nissan Safety Shield 360 is standard across the lineup, and upper trims add a surround-view monitor.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Nissan Pathfinder?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find value.

• Deal availability: 32.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,315 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.81% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 84.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $24,350, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Nissan Pathfinder's resale value?

The current average of $24,350 sits slightly below last year's $28,250.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim equipment rather than broad market momentum alone.

Because prices have softened, a well-kept Pathfinder may stand out more if it has the right features and a clean history. Strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Nissan Pathfinder safe?

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Nissan Safety Shield 360 is standard, and it includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, high-beam assist, rear automatic braking, driver alertness monitor, rear door alert, and forward-collision warning. A rearview camera is standard, and upper trims add a surround-view monitor.

The Pathfinder was not crash-tested by IIHS or NHTSA, so you should lean more heavily on its standard safety equipment and trim-level feature differences when shopping used.

Should I buy a 2022 Nissan Pathfinder or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 32.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.81% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 brings back rugged styling and capability while adding thoughtful safety tech.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $29,589, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $24,350 average.
• It adds the Rock Creek edition, a tougher-looking version with a more adventurous image.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2022 is the smarter buy because it combines lower pricing with strong owner satisfaction and a broad feature set. If you want a newer model with the Rock Creek edition and can stretch your budget, the 2023 is worth a look.
