Is the 2022 Nissan Maxima a good car?

The 2022 Nissan Maxima stands out as a large sedan that still leans into Nissan’s long-running “four-door sports car” identity. It uses a 3.5-liter V6 rated at 300 horsepower and 261 pound-feet of torque, and Nissan pairs that engine with front-wheel drive and a continuously variable transmission.

For you, that means strong acceleration, composed cornering, and a well-equipped cabin with an 8-inch color display with navigation plus a broad set of driver-assistance features. Its appeal is strongest if you want a sedan with a premium feel, standard safety and convenience content, and a more engaging personality than many mainstream alternatives.

Market availability: 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.

Is the 2022 Nissan Maxima reliable?

The 2022 Nissan Maxima brings a strong list of standard equipment, including adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision warning, and rear cross-traffic alert on the top three trims. It also benefits from a long-running platform and a familiar V6-and-CVT setup that Nissan has used extensively.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about novelty and more about the usual wear-and-tear concerns that come with a higher-mileage sedan, especially if you plan to keep it for years.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Nissan Maxima?

At 72.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should run a vehicle history report on any Maxima you’re seriously considering and confirm whether prior damage was cosmetic or structural. Put inspection priority on body panels, paint match, tire wear, and alignment, since those can reveal whether a car has been repaired well. Focus on overall condition and maintenance records so you can separate a clean, well-kept example from one that only looks good in photos.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Nissan Maxima?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully without rushing.

• Deal availability: 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 545 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.22% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 72.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $22,578, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Nissan Maxima's resale value?

The current average of $23,109 sits slightly below last year's $24,643.

That price movement suggests the Maxima is still a value-oriented used sedan rather than a strong appreciation play. If you buy one now, you should expect resale to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment rather than on broad market momentum. For a future seller, a clean history and strong maintenance records will matter more because the model’s pricing has already softened.

Should I buy a 2022 Nissan Maxima or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 72.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.22% compared with last year.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $19,142, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $23,109 average.
• It offers a more relaxed, comfort-focused character with premium materials.

The bottom line: If you want the stronger current-market balance of price, inventory, and equipment, the 2022 is the better primary target. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2021 is the smarter secondary path, especially if you find a clean example with the features you want.
