Why it stands out
The 2022 Nissan Kicks stands out as a value-focused subcompact SUV that emphasizes efficiency, safety, and everyday usability over outright performance. It belongs to the first generation of the Kicks, which arrived for the 2018 model year, and that original formula was aimed at drivers who wanted safe, reliable, no-frills transportation. It was also positioned as an affordable choice from the start, with an MSRP of $17,990 when introduced in 2018.
For 2022, the Kicks still used a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine with 125 horsepower and 115 lb-ft of torque, paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission. That setup delivered strong fuel economy, with EPA estimates of 31 miles per gallon in the city, 36 mpg on the highway, and 33 mpg combined. The tradeoff was performance: the Kicks was not fast, and owners commonly appreciated its value, safety features, and fuel efficiency while also noting that the engine could feel short on power, especially at highway speeds.
The 2022 Kicks also offered a practical cabin for the class. The base S model included Bluetooth connectivity and a seven-inch infotainment screen, while the SV added aluminum wheels, push-button start, and a digital information screen in the gauge cluster. Higher trims brought more equipment, including LED headlights, a 360-degree intelligent around view monitor camera, heated front seats, and an upgraded Bose Personal Plus Audio System. A 2021 refresh had already brought updated exterior styling with a new grille and upgraded interior materials, helping the 2022 model feel a bit more polished without losing the Kicks’ straightforward appeal.

“Love this car! It has excellent value with the standard safety and tech features. It handles the potholes of LA with ease and is super fun to drive. I was also considering the Hyundai Kona and Chevy Trax.

I love everything about this car its the perfect size for me, not too small like a sedan but not overwhelming like a truck can be. All of its safety features make me feel more confident and safe on the road. I feel like this is the perfect car for anyone looking for there first or a good reliable car.

I love a small car with get up and go and great gas mileage. This fit the ticket. I purchased the SR model and yes, I feel it was a good value for the price. The Bose sound system is amazing as well as the all leather interior. The only thing missing for me, is electric seats, however, it does have very comfortable heated seats, which I love. The ride is smooth and quiet for a smaller vehicle. Not sure what I would compare it to, as I fell in love with it without test driving anything else.

I received a 2022 Kicks SV after returning my 2020 base model. I can say that Im much happier with this one. While the harsh and lifeless 1.6L engine remains unchanged, the interior bits feel better; even if only slightly. The addition of Apple CarPlay is welcomed, as is the keyless entry. How is that not standard on the base model? The car has kept its spunky outward appearance and is quieter at speeds, but that engine still sounds terrible at highway speeds while it tries to keep up with the plethora of Camrys and Accords on the roadways. The cupholders are larger now so they can hold actual things which is also welcomed. Also, the speakers are far better this go. While they still arent going to impress the kids in your neighborhood, they can be cranked up a bit more for those jams you love. While it does struggle on the highway, itll get you around town with a bit of pep. All in all, its a decent package that has a ton of standard safety features at a good price. You dont see backup sensors AND a camera plus all the other features that come standard on many cars this cheap.

Is the 2022 Nissan Kicks a good car?
Yes — the 2022 Nissan Kicks earns a 4.86/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its excellent value, safety features, and fuel efficiency, and they also like the comfortable interior and easy everyday usability. The main tradeoff is that some drivers want more power, especially at highway speeds, so it fits you best if you prioritize efficiency and practicality over quick acceleration. With 34.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have room to shop selectively.
Is the 2022 Nissan Kicks reliable?
Owners rate it 4.86/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience centered on value, safety, and fuel efficiency. That kind of response suggests the Kicks can be a sensible choice if you want a simple commuter that owners feel good about keeping for the long term. For used buyers, the main ownership risk is less about complexity and more about finding one that has been maintained well and hasn’t been worn down by heavy daily use.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Nissan Kicks?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm the car’s accident and title history before you go any further. After that, prioritize a thorough inspection of the interior, electronics, and overall condition, since comfort and convenience features matter a lot in this model. It’s also smart to pay close attention to how the car drives, especially if you want to make sure the engine and transmission feel smooth in everyday use.

What is the 2022 Nissan Kicks's resale value?
The current average of $15,525 sits slightly below last year's $16,903.
That price movement suggests the market has cooled a bit, which can help you as a buyer now but may also limit upside if you plan to sell soon. Still, the Kicks' value-focused reputation and strong owner satisfaction can help support demand when it’s time to resell. If you keep mileage reasonable and maintenance records organized, you’ll be in a better position to protect your return later.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.86/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2022 Nissan Kicks or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 34.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.16% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.86/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $14,563, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $15,525 average.
- It adds more features after a refresh.
The bottom line:
You should lean toward the 2022 if you want the stronger current-market balance of price, inventory, and owner satisfaction. If your top priority is spending less upfront, the 2021 is the better value play, especially if you find one in clean condition with the features you want.
