CarGurus Analysis: 2022 Nissan Kicks

Summary
With 1,373 currently listed for sale and an average price of $16,021.00, 30.4% of 2022 Nissan Kicks for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Nissan Kicks 4.86 / 5 stars.
82.3% of 2022 Kicks models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2022 Nissan Kicks stands out as a value-focused subcompact SUV that was designed to be practical rather than flashy. It was part of the first-generation Kicks, which reached the American market for the 2018 model year, and that generation was front-wheel drive only. Nissan positioned it as a safe, reliable, no-frills choice, and its low starting price when introduced helped reinforce that mission.
What makes the 2022 model appealing is the combination of efficiency, useful equipment, and everyday usability. All first-generation Kicks trim levels used a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine with 125 horsepower and 115 lb-ft of torque, paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission. It was not quick, but it did deliver excellent fuel economy, and the 2022 Kicks also offered Bluetooth connectivity and a seven-inch infotainment screen on the base S model. Higher trims added conveniences such as push-button start, a digital information screen in the gauge cluster, LED headlights, a 360-degree intelligent around view monitor camera, heated front seats, and an upgraded Bose Personal Plus Audio System.
The 2022 Nissan Kicks also benefited from the 2021 refresh, which brought updated exterior styling with a new grille and upgraded interior materials. Standard safety and driver-assistance equipment included automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, high beam assist, and rear automatic braking. Its main limitation was straightforward: it remained a small, front-wheel-drive crossover with modest power, so buyers who want stronger acceleration or all-wheel drive will need to look elsewhere.

“Love this car! It has excellent value with the standard safety and tech features. It handles the potholes of LA with ease and is super fun to drive. I was also considering the Hyundai Kona and Chevy Trax.

I love everything about this car its the perfect size for me, not too small like a sedan but not overwhelming like a truck can be. All of its safety features make me feel more confident and safe on the road. I feel like this is the perfect car for anyone looking for there first or a good reliable car.

I love a small car with get up and go and great gas mileage. This fit the ticket. I purchased the SR model and yes, I feel it was a good value for the price. The Bose sound system is amazing as well as the all leather interior. The only thing missing for me, is electric seats, however, it does have very comfortable heated seats, which I love. The ride is smooth and quiet for a smaller vehicle. Not sure what I would compare it to, as I fell in love with it without test driving anything else.

Reviewed a 2022 Nissan Kicks on Sep 11, 2022
I received a 2022 Kicks SV after returning my 2020 base model. I can say that Im much happier with this one. While the harsh and lifeless 1.6L engine remains unchanged, the interior bits feel better; even if only slightly. The addition of Apple CarPlay is welcomed, as is the keyless entry. How is that not standard on the base model? The car has kept its spunky outward appearance and is quieter at speeds, but that engine still sounds terrible at highway speeds while it tries to keep up with the plethora of Camrys and Accords on the roadways. The cupholders are larger now so they can hold actual things which is also welcomed. Also, the speakers are far better this go. While they still arent going to impress the kids in your neighborhood, they can be cranked up a bit more for those jams you love. While it does struggle on the highway, itll get you around town with a bit of pep. All in all, its a decent package that has a ton of standard safety features at a good price. You dont see backup sensors AND a camera plus all the other features that come standard on many cars this cheap.

How much does the 2022 Nissan Kicks cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $15,944 |
| Year-Round Low | $15,855.94 |
| Year-Round High | $17,476.54 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $17,475 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −8.76% |
Prices have softened 8.76% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 1,441 listings available, which gives you a meaningful amount of inventory to compare.
If you find a listing below $15,855.94, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2022 Nissan Kicks a good car?
Yes — the 4.86/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its excellent value, safety features, and enjoyable driving experience, while also highlighting the comfortable interior and impressive fuel efficiency. For you, that makes it a sensible pick if you want a practical, efficient subcompact SUV rather than something flashy or quick. With 31.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still room to shop selectively.
Is the 2022 Nissan Kicks reliable?
Owners rate it 4.86/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also emphasizes that it feels reliable, dependable, and trouble-free for everyday use, with a reputation you can count on over time. That matters if you want a used SUV that should be easy to live with and less stressful to own. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure prior maintenance and condition match the strong reputation.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Nissan Kicks?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 82% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a vehicle-by-vehicle review. Put inspection priority on overall condition, especially signs of wear that could affect daily usability. Focus on how the car presents inside and out, since a practical commuter like this is best when it has been kept in consistently good shape.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Nissan Kicks?

What is the 2022 Nissan Kicks's resale value?
The current average of $15,944 sits slightly below last year's $17,475.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point. If you plan to sell later, a lower purchase price can reduce your depreciation exposure. Strong value positioning also helps keep the model appealing to budget-minded shoppers when it returns to market.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.86/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2022 Nissan Kicks or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 82% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.76% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.86/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $14,738, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $15,944 average.
- It adds more features while staying budget-friendly.
The bottom line: You should start with the 2022 if you want the stronger current market mix of price softness, solid inventory, and high owner satisfaction. If your top priority is spending less upfront, the 2021 is the better value-oriented alternative and may be the smarter path for price-sensitive buyers.
