How much does the 2022 Nissan Altima cost?

Prices have softened 11.07% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

With 4,206 listings available, you have a healthy amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2022 Nissan Altima a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Nissan Altima earns a 4.83/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise the Altima for its performance, fuel economy, and spacious interior. They also like the updated technology, including remote start and heated seats, which helps the car feel well equipped for everyday use.

The trade-offs are familiar ones: the base engine can feel underwhelming, and some drivers want more luxury touches such as a power driver’s seat and additional radio options. Even so, the Altima makes sense if you want a roomy, tech-forward midsize sedan with broad trim and powertrain choice.

With 33.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still room to shop selectively.

Is the 2022 Nissan Altima reliable?

Owners rate it 4.83/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Reviewers describe the Altima as a car they enjoy living with over time, and they repeatedly point to its dependable feel, strong fuel economy, and trouble-free everyday use. The expert evaluation also emphasizes that the car is well put together, with a smooth, composed ride and a quiet cabin that support confidence in daily ownership.

The Altima’s maintenance and ownership story is helped by its mainstream mechanical setup and broad dealer support, which can make long-term upkeep easier to manage. For used buyers, the main risk is less about a single known flaw and more about choosing a well-kept example with a clean history and consistent maintenance.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Nissan Altima?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any candidate, even if the listing looks clean at first glance. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that checks the drivetrain, brakes, tires, electronics, and signs of uneven wear. Focus on overall condition and equipment level, since the Altima’s trim and option spread can change the ownership experience a lot.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The S trim is the most basic version, while higher trims add nicer materials, more polished cabin details, and more equipment. Lower trims do not look or feel as refined, so you should pay close attention to interior finish and feature content if you want a more upscale experience.
• Powertrain: You can choose between a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 188 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque, or a 2.0-liter VC-Turbo with 248 hp and 273 lb-ft. The base engine is the efficiency-first choice, while the VC-Turbo is the stronger performer; AWD is not available with the VC-Turbo.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, forward-collision warning, automatic high beams, driver-attention warning, Rear View Monitor, rear door alert, and hill-start assist. Starting with the SV trim, Safety Shield 360 adds rear automatic braking, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic warning, and a rear sonar system. The base S can get an optional Driver Assist package with similar added coverage.
• Infotainment: The S uses a 7-inch touchscreen, while other trims get an 8-inch infotainment system with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Starting with the SL, you also get a nine-speaker Bose audio system, navigation, connected services, and remote engine start with intelligent climate control.
• Fuel efficiency: Combined fuel economy ranges from 32 mpg with the 2.5-liter engine and FWD to 29 mpg with the VC-Turbo and FWD.

Which 2022 Nissan Altima trim should I buy?

The 2022 Nissan Altima is offered in 5 trim levels: S, SV, SR, SL, and Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the entry point, so it makes the most sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the Altima. You still get the core safety tech, but the cabin and infotainment setup are the most basic, so it is best if price matters more than polish.
• SV: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more everyday convenience and unlocks Safety Shield 360. If you want the strongest balance of equipment and price, this is the trim to focus on first.
• SR: This is the sportier-looking choice, and it is also the trim that can pair with the VC-Turbo engine. It suits you if you care more about style and available performance than maximum value.
• SL: This is the comfort-and-tech upgrade, with the premium audio system, navigation, connected services, and remote engine start. Choose it if you want the Altima to feel more upscale on a daily basis.
• Platinum: This is the top trim, and it is the one to consider if you want the most complete Altima experience with standard AWD. It makes the most sense if you want the highest equipment level and are willing to pay for it.

Safety Shield 360 begins with the SV trim, while the base S can add some of that protection through an optional package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Nissan Altima?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find value.

• Deal availability: 33.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 4,206 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.07% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 77.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $17,560, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Nissan Altima's resale value?

The current average of $17,560 sits slightly below last year's $19,745.

That decline suggests the Altima has softened in the used market, which can be good news if you are buying now but less ideal if you are planning to sell soon. A lower current price can help you get in at a better value, but it also means future resale gains may be limited unless the market tightens.

For a future seller, the key is to buy a well-equipped, well-kept example that will stand out when it is time to list it again. Trim level, condition, and maintenance history will matter more when the market is already showing downward pressure.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.83/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Nissan Altima safe?

The 2022 Nissan Altima earns a Top Safety Pick+ designation from IIHS and five-star ratings from NHTSA in overall crash protection, front crash protection, side crash protection, and rollover resistance.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, forward-collision warning, automatic high-beam headlights, driver-attention warning, Rear View Monitor, rear door alert, and hill-start assist. Starting with the SV trim, Safety Shield 360 adds rear automatic braking, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic warning, and a rear sonar system.

The main caveat is that the base S trim does not get Safety Shield 360 as standard, so you need to step up or add the available Driver Assist package if you want more complete coverage. Even so, the Altima’s crash-test results and standard driver aids make it a strong safety choice in this class.

Should I buy a 2022 Nissan Altima or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 33.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.07% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.83/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds expanded Midnight Edition availability on the SR with the base four-cylinder engine.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $16,262, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $17,560 average.
• It offers broad appeal with practical features and a loyal following.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $20,808, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $17,560 average.
• It emphasizes comfort, easy-to-use tech, and strong safety ratings.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of price, safety, and available inventory, the 2022 is the smart default. If your budget is tighter, the 2021 can save you money while keeping much of the same appeal. If you want to spend more for a newer model-year alternative, the 2023 is worth a look, but you should expect to pay more for it.
