Is the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander a good car?

Good and great deals account for 37.7% of listings, so you still have room to shop selectively.

User feedback points to a reliable, dependable feel, with drivers describing it as smooth and advanced while still feeling like a vehicle they can count on. The expert review also emphasizes the Outlander’s great warranty and generous roadside assistance, which strengthen the ownership case.

The powertrain warranty and free roadside assistance help reduce long-term ownership risk for used buyers, especially if you plan to keep the vehicle for several years.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 83.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully and prioritize a thorough inspection of the third row, cargo area, and infotainment/voice-recognition behavior. Because the Outlander’s strengths are tied to comfort, technology, and condition, you’ll want to make sure the specific vehicle you’re considering matches that promise in real-world use.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Mitsubishi sells the 2022 Outlander in ES, SE, SE Launch Edition, SEL, and SEL Launch Edition trim levels, and the higher trims add more upscale equipment such as premium leather, a heated steering wheel, a head-up display, a premium sound system, rear-window sunshades, and a panoramic glass sunroof. The base trim is the one most likely to leave you wanting more of the premium feel that helps define this model.
• Powertrain: The Outlander uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 181 horsepower and 181 pound-feet of torque, paired with a CVT and available S-AWC all-wheel drive. The performance notes point to a sluggish feel, especially when merging, passing, or climbing hills.
• Safety package: Mi-Pilot Assist is the named driver-assistance suite, and it works with commendable refinement, smoothness, and accuracy. Standard driver-assist tech also includes forward collision avoidance, safe reversing, lane-keeping assistance, and blind-spot warning, though the steering-assistance behavior can feel intrusive when the system is not being used as intended.
• Infotainment: The available 9-inch touchscreen includes stereo volume and tuning knobs, wireless Apple CarPlay, wired Android Auto, and a free two-year subscription to Mitsubishi Connect Safeguard and Remote services. Wireless smartphone charging is standard with the 9-inch Smartphone-link system.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert review records 24.9 mpg on its testing route and notes an EPA fuel-economy rating of 26 mpg for AWD models.

Which 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander trim should I buy?

The 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander is offered in 5 trim levels: ES, SE, SE Launch Edition, SEL, and SEL Launch Edition.

Here's the short version:

• ES: This is the entry point, so it makes the most sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the redesigned Outlander and are comfortable giving up some of the upscale touches that define the higher trims.
• SE: This is the trim to target if you want a better balance of equipment and value, since it moves you beyond the most basic setup without pushing you all the way to the pricier luxury-leaning versions.
• SE Launch Edition: Choose this if you want a more feature-rich SE-based setup and are shopping for a limited-run version with extra appeal.
• SEL: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it unlocks the more premium interior and technology experience, including the upscale Touring Package content shown in testing.
• SEL Launch Edition: Pick this if you want the SEL experience with added exclusivity and are willing to pay more for it.

The safety package centers on Mi-Pilot Assist, and the standard driver-assistance features are a meaningful part of the Outlander’s appeal across the lineup.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient and compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 37.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,150 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.65% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 83.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $19,681, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander's resale value?

The current average of $19,681 sits slightly below last year's $22,276.

That decline suggests the Outlander has become more affordable for buyers, which can make it a tougher vehicle for sellers to command top dollar in the near term. If you own one, condition and equipment will matter a lot when it comes time to resell, especially because shoppers in this segment are comparing value closely.

The model’s strong user satisfaction helps support demand, but the softer pricing trend means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on mileage, trim, and overall condition.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander safe?

The 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Mi-Pilot Assist is the standout driver-assistance suite, and it works with commendable refinement, smoothness, and accuracy. Standard safety tech also includes forward collision avoidance, safe reversing, lane-keeping assistance, and blind-spot warning.

One caveat is that the steering-assistance and lane-departure systems can feel intrusive when Mi-Pilot Assist is not active, and you have to use the touchscreen menu to turn them off. That makes the system effective when used as intended, but a little less convenient in everyday driving.

Should I buy a 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 37.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 83.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.65% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The expert review highlights impressive technology, a comfortable ride, and a great warranty, even though performance is sluggish and the third row is cramped.

The bottom line: The 2022 Outlander makes the most sense if you want a redesigned SUV with strong tech, a comfortable ride, and a value-oriented ownership story. If you’re price-sensitive, this year’s softer market and solid inventory make it worth shopping carefully; if you want more family-friendly flexibility and a broader feature set, a nearby model year may be worth comparing before you decide.
