Is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE a good car?

Generally — the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE earns a 4.3/5 user rating and a 7.7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE stands out as a low-roofed SUV coupe that leans hard into style without abandoning its utility roots. It also brings a powerful engine and impressive technology, which help it feel more compelling than a purely style-driven vehicle.

The trade-offs are clear: its design may divide opinion, and advanced safety features are not standard. The overall package is also described as poor value for money.

With 32.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE reliable?

Owners rate it 4.3/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE is presented as a premium SUV with strong technology and a broad appeal that includes multiple powertrain choices in the lineup. Its overall positioning suggests a vehicle built to deliver comfort, capability, and a high-end feel over the long haul.

The performance setup also points to durability-minded engineering, with a turbocharged inline-six, EQ Boost mild-hybrid assistance, and a well-developed AWD system. Mercedes also includes complimentary scheduled maintenance for three years on some competing models, which underscores how ownership costs can matter in this segment.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that the most desirable versions can be expensive to keep satisfying if you prioritize value over features.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the vehicle history report carefully and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing has been modified or heavily optioned. Focus on overall condition, because this model’s appeal depends heavily on how well the cabin, technology, and safety equipment have been maintained.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The cabin is described as sumptuous, with high-end materials, dual screens, and a high-tech appearance, but the interior controls can feel complex at first. Base versions also leave you without the full safety suite, so feature gaps matter.
• Powertrain: The AMG GLE 53 Coupe uses a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six with EQ Boost, a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, plus a SpeedShift nine-speed automatic and AMG Performance 4Matic+ AWD.
• Safety package: The Driver Assistance Package adds 15 systems related to driver support and collision avoidance, including Traffic Jam Assist, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, Active Lane Change Assist, and Active Emergency Stop Assist.
• Infotainment: MBUX uses dual 12.3-inch screens and includes navigation, satellite radio, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Mercedes Me connected services, wireless smartphone charging, and a Burmester surround-sound system.
• Fuel efficiency: The EPA says the test vehicle should have returned 19 mpg in combined driving, and the test result was 18.5 mpg.

Which 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE trim should I buy?

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE is offered in 3 trim levels: GLE 350, GLE 450 4Matic, AMG GLE 53.

Here's the short version:

• GLE 350: This is the entry point if you want the GLE’s core luxury and utility without stepping up to the pricier performance models. It makes the most sense if you want the style and tech first, with less emphasis on power.
• GLE 450 4Matic: This is the best-value trim if you want a stronger middle ground between the base model and the AMG version. It should suit you if you want more capability without going all the way to the most expensive setup.
• AMG GLE 53: This is the choice if you want the strongest performance and the most dramatic character in the lineup. It adds the AMG-focused hardware and is the right pick if you care most about acceleration, handling, and a more athletic driving feel.

The Driver Assistance Package is the safety-package upgrade to look for if you want the fullest set of driver-support features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 32.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,568 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.48% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 87.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $40,105, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE's resale value?

The current average of $40,139 sits slightly below last year's $45,347.

That decline suggests the market has cooled, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at the right price, you may have less depreciation risk than someone who paid closer to last year’s average.

The model’s strong technology and premium positioning should still help it hold interest among shoppers who want a distinctive luxury SUV coupe. Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.3/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE safe?

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe is based on the standard GLE, which gets top safety ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Mercedes equips it with forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, forward automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and Pre Safe Sound. The Driver Assistance Package adds 15 more systems, including Traffic Jam Assist, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, Active Lane Change Assist, and Active Emergency Stop Assist.

One important caveat is that advanced safety features are not standard, so you need the right package to get the full suite.

Should I buy a 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 32.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.48% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.3/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It combines style, strong performance, and standout technology in a distinctive SUV coupe package.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $37,823, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $40,139 average.
• It offers comfort, technology, and multiple powertrain choices.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $48,441, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $40,139 average.
• It adds a polished cabin, top-rate technology, and a plug-in hybrid option.

The bottom line: The 2022 is the right pick if you want the distinctive coupe styling, strong tech, and a market that has softened enough to create buying opportunities. If you’re more price-sensitive, the 2021 is the better value play; if you want newer-feeling tech and can spend more, the 2023 is the upgrade path.
