The E-class is the midsize line of Mercedes cars, so it’s fine for all sizes except for very tall and large people. The new inline six cylinder is my favorite engine because it has plenty of power and is fuel efficient. Overall, the quality is here and has been for years.

The E-class Mercedes Is the midsize car segment, and is large enough for many people who are not over 6’ 6” or more than 380 pounds in my estimation. Quality is noticed in interior seating and fit and finish. The relatively new Inline six cylinder engine has enough power with above average fuel economy. Other engines are available in four cylinder and eight cylinder variants.

Great value. 39K with 14K miles and in great condition with premium package. Took it to the Mercedes dealer for inspection and they said it was in great shape (tires, brakes, belts, filters, oil, fluid level, electronics, and even spark plugs). The interior was in pristine condition and the exterior is just as perfect.

Is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class a good car?
Yes — the 5/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction, and the expert rating is 8.17/10. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.
The 2022 E-Class fits buyers who want a luxury vehicle with a broad mix of performance, comfort, and advanced technology. The overview highlights multiple powertrain options, a high-quality interior, and the MBUX infotainment system, while the expert evaluation reinforces that this model year continues the benefits of the 2021 refresh.
The market also shows 32.4% good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The overview points to a model that blends performance, comfort, and advanced technology, while the expert evaluation emphasizes a refined cabin, strong powertrain choices, and a well-integrated infotainment experience. The performance notes also describe the turbocharged six-cylinder setup as delivering robust response across much of the rev range, with mild-hybrid technology helping improve both power output and efficiency.
Mercedes also includes a first scheduled maintenance visit on the house, which helps soften early ownership costs. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a sophisticated luxury car can become expensive if prior maintenance or condition has been neglected.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 85% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still prioritize a history report and a pre-purchase inspection, even when the market looks clean. Focus on condition details that matter most in a luxury car: interior wear, electronics behavior, and evidence of careful maintenance. If you're considering a convertible, pay extra attention to top operation and weather-related wear.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The cabin presentation changes a lot by specification, from the more restrained base look to the richly appointed high-end versions with premium materials and more dramatic design details.
- Powertrain: The lineup includes turbocharged four-cylinder and six-cylinder engines, with the six-cylinder paired to EQ Boost mild-hybrid technology for stronger response and improved efficiency.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, Mercedes Pre Safe, and Pre Safe Sound. The extra-cost Driver Assistance Package adds adaptive cruise control with Active Speed Limit Assist, Active Steering Assist, front automatic braking for cross traffic, Evasive Steering Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist, Active Emergency Stop Assist, and Pre Safe Plus.
- Infotainment: Two 12.3-inch screens anchor MBUX, and the system includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, WiFi service, and an augmented reality navigation overlay. A head-up display is also available.
- Fuel efficiency: The six-cylinder setup uses EQ Boost mild-hybrid technology to improve both power output and efficiency.
Which 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class trim should I buy?
The 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is offered in 4 trim levels: E350, E450, AMG E53, and E-Class Cabriolet.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The E350 is the entry point, and it gives you the core E-Class experience without the richer performance and luxury upgrades found higher up the range.
- Sweet-spot trim: The E450 is the best value if you want the turbo six-cylinder, EQ Boost mild-hybrid technology, and a stronger all-around balance of performance and refinement.
- Premium/top trim: The AMG E53 is the most compelling choice if you want the most dramatic styling, the strongest performance, and the richest cabin presentation.
- Off-road trim: The E-Class Cabriolet is the one to think twice about if you want the most practical daily-driver setup, since its open-air focus makes it more specialized.
The Driver Assistance Package is the key safety-package upgrade to look for if you want the fullest set of driver aids.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it rewards patience and comparison shopping.
- Deal availability: 32.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,050 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.29% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 85.0% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $40,427.83, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class's resale value?
The current average of $40,831 sits slightly below last year's $43,570.
That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can help you buy more confidently now but may also limit near-term upside if you plan to resell soon. If you keep the car in strong condition and maintain it well, you can help protect value against further softening. The model's broad appeal and strong owner satisfaction should continue to support demand.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class safe?
It earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA.
It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.
The E-Class comes standard with forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, Mercedes Pre Safe, and Pre Safe Sound. The E-Class Cabriolet also adds pop-up rollbars for rollover protection, and the Driver Assistance Package brings adaptive cruise control, lane-centering assistance, lane-keeping support, blind-spot assist, and emergency stop functionality.
The main caveat is that many of the most advanced driver aids are bundled into the extra-cost package, so you should verify whether a used example has that equipment.
Should I buy a 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 32.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 85% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.29% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2022 lineup keeps the benefits of the 2021 refresh while adding standard automatic high-beam headlights and other small updates.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $38,548, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $40,831 average.
- It offers a broad, versatile lineup with multiple body styles, engines, and extensive customization.
The bottom line: you should lean toward the 2022 if you want the newer model-year updates and are comfortable paying a bit more for them. If your priority is saving money, the 2021 is the smarter value play because it delivers much of the same core E-Class experience for less.
