Used 2022 Mazda CX-9 for Sale nearGrand Rapids, MI

How much does the 2022 Mazda CX-9 cost?

Prices have softened 12.18% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 670 listings available, which suggests a modest but workable pool of used CX-9s to compare.

Is the 2022 Mazda CX-9 a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Mazda CX-9 earns a 5/5 user rating and an 8.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Performance, Cost effectiveness, and Safety.

Owners consistently praise the smooth and comfortable ride, the spacious interior, and the luxurious-feeling features at a good price. They also value the performance and power in everyday commuting, which helps the CX-9 feel polished rather than merely practical.

The main trade-offs are a cramped third row and unintuitive technology, so the CX-9 makes the most sense if you care more about refinement than maximum passenger space or the easiest infotainment setup. For shoppers who want a near-luxury family SUV with a premium feel, that balance is a strong fit.

There are 36.3% good or great deals in the market, which points to a decent number of attractive listings.

Is the 2022 Mazda CX-9 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback also points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with praise for the CX-9’s reliability and the sense that it’s a vehicle you can count on over time. The expert evaluation likewise describes it as having an excellent reputation for reliability and notes that it is a pleasure to drive in daily use.

Mazda also includes a three-year trial of Mazda Connected Services, which adds remote monitoring and vehicle control through the MyMazda app. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about core dependability and more about making sure the specific vehicle has been maintained well and hasn’t picked up avoidable wear.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Mazda CX-9?

At 73.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually strong. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the cabin and technology features work as expected, since the CX-9’s refinement is a big part of its appeal.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The CX-9’s cabin is elegant and upscale, and the 10.25-inch infotainment screen sits high on the dash for easier viewing. Base models miss some of the richer convenience and audio upgrades found higher up the lineup, so you should compare equipment carefully if you want the most premium feel.
• Powertrain: All trims use a SKYACTIV-G 2.5-liter turbo-four with a six-speed automatic and standard all-wheel drive. Output is 227 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque on regular gas, or 250 hp and 320 lb-ft on premium fuel, and the AWD system includes off-road traction assist and G-Vectoring Control Plus.
• Safety package: The CX-9 includes a broad standard suite with blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, front and rear parking sensors, and more. Carbon Edition and above add a driver attention monitor and reverse automatic emergency braking.
• Infotainment: Standard equipment includes a 10.25-inch display, wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Mazda Connected Services, a six-speaker audio system, Bluetooth, and a three-month WiFi hotspot trial. Higher trims add features such as a Bose 12-speaker system, navigation, a wireless charging pad, and an active driving display.
• Fuel efficiency: The CX-9’s current rating is described as a weakness, and Mazda notes that improved fuel economy would be a welcome improvement.

Which 2022 Mazda CX-9 trim should I buy?

The 2022 Mazda CX-9 is offered in 6 trim levels: Sport, Touring, Carbon Edition, Grand Touring, Signature, and Grand Touring Reserve.

Here's the short version:

• Sport: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core CX-9 experience: the turbocharged engine, standard all-wheel drive, the 10.25-inch infotainment screen, and the full safety foundation. It makes sense if you want the CX-9’s style and driving feel at the lowest price.
• Touring: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds meaningful comfort and convenience upgrades without jumping all the way to the luxury-focused upper trims. It also opens the door to available upgrades like the Bose audio system and wireless charging.
• Carbon Edition: This trim adds a more upscale presentation and brings standard SiriusXM, a wireless charging pad, and third-row USB ports. It also gets the driver attention monitor and reverse automatic emergency braking, making it a strong middle-ground choice.
• Grand Touring: This is where the CX-9 starts to feel especially premium, with standard navigation, the active driving display, SiriusXM, and the Bose audio system. If you want the most complete tech and convenience mix without going all the way to Signature, this is the trim to target.
• Signature: This is the top luxury-oriented trim, and it layers on the richest equipment list, including the premium audio and navigation setup plus the most upscale presentation. It suits you best if you want the CX-9 to feel as close to a premium-brand SUV as possible.
• Grand Touring Reserve: This trim is explicitly named in the model-year overview, but the provided details do not describe its equipment in enough depth to separate it cleanly from the others here.

Carbon Edition and above add a driver attention monitor and reverse automatic emergency braking.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Mazda CX-9?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully and compare listings.

• Deal availability: 36.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 670 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.18% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 73.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $23,799, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Mazda CX-9's resale value?

The current average of $23,799 sits slightly below last year's $27,098.

That decline suggests the CX-9 has become more affordable for used buyers, which can help demand from shoppers looking for a premium-feeling three-row SUV at a lower entry price. For a future seller, that means the market is currently valuing the model more conservatively than it did a year ago.

Even so, the CX-9’s strong reputation for style, comfort, and driving enjoyment should help it remain appealing to the right buyer. Well-kept examples with desirable equipment and clean history should be easier to move than neglected ones.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Mazda CX-9 safe?

The 2022 Mazda CX-9 received a Top Safety Pick + rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), and it also received a five-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The CX-9’s standard safety suite includes a rearview camera, full complement of airbags, hill-launch assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, side-impact door beams, an engine immobilizer anti-theft system, tire pressure monitoring, LATCH second-row child seat anchors and upper tether anchors, child safety rear door locks, and front and rear parking sensors. Carbon Edition and above add a driver attention monitor and reverse automatic emergency braking.

Should I buy a 2022 Mazda CX-9 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 36.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 73.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.18% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 combines a premium-feeling cabin, strong safety ratings, and standard all-wheel drive.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $22,115, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $23,799 average.
• It is a compelling choice in its segment with a premium feel and better-than-ever changes for that model year.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of value, safety, and upscale character, the 2022 is the better all-around pick. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2021 is the smarter budget alternative and still delivers much of the CX-9’s core appeal.
