CarGurus Analysis: 2022 Lexus ES Hybrid
overall

Summary
With 213 currently listed for sale and an average price of $36,044, 32.4% of 2022 Lexus ES Hybrids for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Lexus ES Hybrid 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.67 / 10.
78.9% of 2022 ES Hybrid models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2022 Lexus ES Hybrid stands out as a luxury sedan that leans into quiet comfort rather than performance, and it continues to appeal in a market where cars are losing favor. For this year, Lexus gives the ES a nip and tuck with new grille, wheel, and bi-LED headlight designs, plus a couple of new paint colors. It also adds a touchscreen infotainment display and next-generation Lexus Safety System+ 2.5 driving assistance and collision avoidance technology, which helps make the car feel more modern and easier to live with.
The 2022 model is also the first ES Hybrid offered with F Sport trim, although the update is described as cosmetic rather than a change in driving character. That fits the car’s broader personality: it is fuel-efficient, easy to use, and spacious, but its performance is fairly pedestrian and its styling is uninspired. For buyers who want a comfortable, efficient luxury sedan with useful tech and a roomy cabin, the 2022 Lexus ES Hybrid makes a strong case.

I love the car as I presently own an ES 350 , but won't be buying from this dealer due to their exorbitant dealer fees and unscrupulous add-ons. Their reviews are very negative and don't inspire trust or confidence.

I love the gas mileage, 43mpg city/hwy. That sells me right there. I was somewhat worried about the level of power it would have. I was surprised at the get up and go that this 4cyl has. Im a fast driver, get up and go kind of driver. This car has enough power for me.

Well designed car. Great gas mileage. Smooth ride. Every possible feature one can think of. Heads up display is really a bonus. Compare this car to any Mercedes sold.

The overview describes it as a quiet, comfortable, and reliable car, and the expert notes reinforce that it’s built for composed, easy daily use. The hybrid powertrain is described as efficient and smooth, with the electric motor supplying instant torque and the transmission making good use of the available power.
The cost-effectiveness notes also point to strong value for the money, with the car delivering style, luxury, and spacious comfort without pushing into the highest price brackets. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright durability and more about whether the car’s comfort-first setup and modest performance match your expectations over time.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Lexus ES Hybrid?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re comparing multiple listings. Focus on overall condition, signs of prior damage, and whether the car’s tech and comfort features are working as expected.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The car comes in Base, Luxury, Ultra Luxury, and F Sport trim. The F Sport adds a racier look, black 19-inch wheels, and heated and ventilated front cushions, but it is described as an appearance package rather than a true performance upgrade.
- Powertrain: The hybrid setup pairs a 2.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine with an electric drive assist motor and a lithium-ion battery pack for 215 horsepower. It is front-wheel drive, and the transmission is an electronic continuously variable automatic.
- Safety package: Lexus Safety System+ 2.5 is standard, and it includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, lane-centering assistance, forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, cyclist detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assistance, automatic high-beam headlights, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic warning, evasive steering assistance, Intersection Turning Assist, and Curve Speed Reduction.
- Infotainment: The touchscreen display is mounted 4.3 inches closer to the driver and front passenger, and the system includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa integration. Voice recognition is described as fast and accurate.
- Fuel efficiency: The expert testing route returned 37 mpg, and the overview says the car is fuel-efficient and easy to live with.
Which 2022 Lexus ES Hybrid trim should I buy?
The 2022 Lexus ES Hybrid is offered in 4 trim levels: Base, Luxury, Ultra Luxury, and F Sport.
Here's the short version:
- Base: This is the trim to start with if you want the ES Hybrid’s core strengths — quiet comfort, spaciousness, strong fuel economy, and the standard safety and infotainment upgrades for 2022 — without paying for extras that don’t change the car’s character much.
- Luxury: Choose this if you want a more upscale feel than the Base trim and you care about comfort-focused equipment more than sporty styling.
- Ultra Luxury: This is the right pick if you want the most comfort-oriented version of the ES Hybrid and you’re willing to pay more for the richest experience in the lineup.
- F Sport: Pick this only if you want the sportier appearance package and the unique look it brings. The content makes clear that it does not add genuine athleticism, so it’s best for buyers who want style over sharper driving dynamics.
Lexus Safety System+ 2.5 is standard across the lineup, so you don’t need to move up a trim just to get the core driver-assistance suite.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Lexus ES Hybrid?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly when a strong listing appears.
- Deal availability: 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 212 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices are up 3.48% year-over-year.
- Clean inventory: 78.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $32,873, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Lexus ES Hybrid's resale value?
The current average of $35,996 sits slightly above last year's $34,786.
That upward move suggests the market has remained willing to pay for this model year, which is a positive sign if you plan to sell later. The year-over-year increase also points to steady demand rather than a sharp drop in interest.
For a future seller, that kind of pricing trend can help support a healthier resale position, especially if the car is well maintained and presents cleanly. A model with strong owner satisfaction also tends to stay attractive to used shoppers over time.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Lexus ES Hybrid safe?
The 2022 Lexus ES Hybrid earns five-star ratings from NHTSA, and the 2021 ES earned a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS.
It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.
Lexus Safety System+ 2.5 is standard, and it includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, lane-centering assistance, forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, cyclist detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assistance, automatic high-beam headlights, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic warning, evasive steering assistance, Intersection Turning Assist, and Curve Speed Reduction.
The main caveat is that the lane-centering system and Curve Speed Reduction can feel intrusive or uncertain in some driving situations, and the expert notes say both were preferred turned off in testing.
Should I buy a 2022 Lexus ES Hybrid or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices are up 3.48% year-over-year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- This year adds a touchscreen infotainment display and Lexus Safety System+ 2.5, which make the car feel more modern and easier to live with.
The bottom line: The 2022 is the right pick if you want the updated tech, strong comfort, and efficient hybrid character in a luxury sedan that still feels current. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can also keep an eye on listings that land near the low end of the range, but the 2022’s added equipment and steady demand make it the safer all-around choice.
