CarGurus Analysis: 2022 Toyota Camry Hybrid
overall

Summary
With 599 currently listed for sale and an average price of $25,099.00, 35.1% of 2022 Toyota Camry Hybrids for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Toyota Camry Hybrid 4.75 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.17 / 10.
73.5% of 2022 Camry Hybrid models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2022 Toyota Camry Hybrid stands out as a midsize four-door sedan that pairs a hybrid gasoline-electric powertrain with front-wheel drive and a continuously variable automatic transmission. It uses a 2.5-liter gas engine and an electric motor, and it comes in five trim levels: LE, SE, SE Nightshade Edition, XLE, and XSE. That combination gives it a practical, efficiency-focused character while still keeping the Camry name’s familiar everyday usability.
For 2022, the main change is the addition of the SE Nightshade Edition, which is marked by blacked-out trim. Beyond that, the Camry Hybrid’s appeal is rooted in its fuel efficiency, plenty of cargo space, and standard advanced safety features. It also helps that owners praise its smooth ride, quiet operation, and stylish design. The main limitation is that all-wheel drive is not available, so buyers looking for that capability will need to look elsewhere.

This car has it all! Im SO happy with it. I decided to get all the bells and whistles for once in my life, and I found it in a hybrid Camry with excellent gas milage and great reliability. I would absolutely recommend this car.

Wanted another Camry hybrid after owning one for 9+ years. Great miles per gallon, reliable, and low maintenance. Can’t compare to other brands as we are loyal Toyota owners, but would highly recommend a Camry hybrid. Chose the XSE over the LE model we had prior for the added amenities (moonroof, leather seats, heated seats, sportier look, etc.). Do know that tires on a hybrid are a little pricier and don’t last as long as the tires we have put on the other Toyotas we own. Appreciate the ‘22 with the Apple CarPlay and the enhanced cruise control and lane monitoring features, etc. This car was a good value overall for its age and mileage. And always feel like a Toyota is a good value as they last so long.

Its a great car. The price is competitive but should come down a little. I chose not to get it due to personal choice of getting into and out of it. My knees are not what they used to be and the kick panels on the camry are fairly large. Larger than most cars.

Is the 2022 Toyota Camry Hybrid a good car?
Yes — it earns a 4.75/5 user rating and an 8.17/10 expert rating.
The model scores 9/10 across Form and function and Safety.
Owners consistently praise its impressive fuel economy, smooth ride, and quiet operation, and they also like the stylish design and useful tech such as Apple CarPlay. The expert review also points to strong everyday usability, with roomy seating and high-quality fit and finish.
The trade-offs are more modest: the focus on efficiency comes with less responsiveness, and the drivetrain can drone at times. In practical terms, this is a smart fit if you want a comfortable, efficient midsize sedan rather than something sporty or flashy.
With 29.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still room to shop selectively.
Is the 2022 Toyota Camry Hybrid reliable?
Owners rate it 4.75/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner summary points to a car that feels dependable and trouble-free in daily use, with praise centered on efficiency, smoothness, and the kind of ownership experience people can count on. The expert review reinforces that impression by emphasizing Toyota’s strong fit and finish and the Camry Hybrid’s easygoing, everyday character.
Toyota also includes a broad standard safety and convenience package, which can reduce ownership friction over time. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that hybrid-specific wear items and repair costs can be more expensive than on a conventional sedan.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Toyota Camry Hybrid?
At 72% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had bodywork or shows uneven panel gaps, tire wear, or interior wear that doesn’t match the mileage. Focus on how the hybrid system, brakes, and tires feel in real-world driving, since those are the areas most likely to affect ownership satisfaction.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base LE uses 16-inch steel wheels, while upper trims move to larger alloy wheels and a more upscale cabin presentation. The XSE adds the most luxury-oriented equipment, including a head-up display, bird’s-eye view camera, intelligent clearance sonar with rear cross-traffic braking, and ventilated seats.
- Powertrain: You get a 2.5-liter four-cylinder hybrid setup with two electric motors, 208 horsepower, and a CVT. The LE is the efficiency leader at 51 mpg city/53 mpg highway/52 mpg combined, while the other trims are rated at 44 mpg city/47 mpg highway/46 mpg combined.
- Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ is standard and includes pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure alert with steering assist, Lane Tracing Assist, automatic high beams, and traffic-sign recognition. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is standard on XLE and XSE, but only available on LE, SE, and SE Nightshade Edition.
- Infotainment: LE, SE, and SE Nightshade Edition use a 7-inch touchscreen, while XLE and XSE get a 9-inch screen. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, and a WiFi hotspot are standard, and embedded navigation is available on XLE and XSE.
- Fuel efficiency: The LE returns 51 mpg city/53 mpg highway/52 mpg combined, while the other trims return 44 mpg city/47 mpg highway/46 mpg combined. The hybrid setup is also described as a strong way to stay away from the gas station.
Which 2022 Toyota Camry Hybrid trim should I buy?
The 2022 Toyota Camry Hybrid is offered in 5 trim levels: LE, SE, SE Nightshade Edition, XLE, and XSE.
Here's the short version:
- LE: This is the best-value choice if you want the strongest fuel economy and the lowest entry price. It gives you the full hybrid experience, standard Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, and a WiFi hotspot without pushing you into pricier equipment.
- SE: Choose this if you want a little more style and a slightly sportier feel without jumping too far up the price ladder. It adds paddle shifters and larger wheels, while keeping the same core efficiency and tech package.
- SE Nightshade Edition: This is the style pick, with blacked-out trim that gives the Camry Hybrid a more distinctive look. It makes the most sense if appearance matters more to you than extra equipment.
- XLE: This is the comfort-and-tech upgrade, with a larger touchscreen, available embedded navigation, and standard blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. It suits you if you want a more premium daily driver.
- XSE: This is the most feature-rich trim, adding the most upscale available equipment, including the head-up display and available premium audio and camera tech. It’s the right choice if you want the fullest Camry Hybrid experience.
Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ is standard across the lineup, while blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is standard only on XLE and XSE.

- Inventory: There are 618 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.24% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 72.0% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $23,583, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Toyota Camry Hybrid's resale value?
The current average of $25,019 sits slightly below last year's $25,856.
That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. If you plan to sell later, the current trend implies you may not see rapid appreciation, so condition and mileage will matter a lot when it’s time to list the car. Strong maintenance records and a clean history should help you protect value better than waiting for the market to rebound on its own.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.75/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Toyota Camry Hybrid safe?
The 2022 Camry Hybrid earns a five-star overall safety rating from NHTSA.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ is standard, and it includes a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure alert with steering assist, Lane Tracing Assist, automatic high beams, and traffic-sign recognition. The car also comes standard with Toyota’s Star safety system, 10 airbags, rear seat reminder, automatic engine shut-off, and hill start assist control.
A blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert is available on LE, SE, and SE Nightshade Edition and standard on XLE and XSE. The main caveat is that the IIHS had not published a 2022 rating in the source material, so the strongest cited crash-test result here is the NHTSA five-star overall score.
Should I buy a 2022 Toyota Camry Hybrid or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 29.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 72% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.24% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.75/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2022 adds the SE Nightshade Edition, giving you a new blacked-out appearance package.
Consider the 2023 if:
- At $26,616, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $25,019 average.
- It adds bronze wheels and Reservoir Blue paint on the Nightshade Edition.
The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2022 is the stronger buy because it combines a lower average price with solid satisfaction and a broad standard safety package. If you’re willing to pay more for a slightly newer model and the Nightshade styling update, the 2023 is the cleaner alternative.
