CarGurus Analysis: 2022 Toyota Camry Hybrid
overall

Summary
With 612 currently listed for sale and an average price of $24,658, 34.2% of 2022 Toyota Camry Hybrids for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Toyota Camry Hybrid 4.75 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.17 / 10.
74.8% of 2022 Camry Hybrid models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2022 Toyota Camry Hybrid stands out as a midsize four-door sedan that pairs a hybrid gasoline-electric powertrain with everyday practicality. It uses a 2.5-liter gas engine, an electric motor, a continuously variable automatic transmission, and front-wheel drive, and it comes in five trim levels: LE, SE, SE Nightshade Edition, XLE, and XSE. That combination gives it a broad appeal for buyers who want efficiency without giving up the familiar sedan format.
For 2022, the SE Nightshade Edition is the notable addition, bringing blacked-out trim to the Camry Hybrid lineup. Beyond that update, the car’s strengths are straightforward: it is fuel-efficient, offers plenty of cargo space, and includes standard advanced safety features. The main limitation is that all-wheel drive is not available, which may matter to shoppers looking for extra traction.

Wanted another Camry hybrid after owning one for 9+ years. Great miles per gallon, reliable, and low maintenance. Can’t compare to other brands as we are loyal Toyota owners, but would highly recommend a Camry hybrid. Chose the XSE over the LE model we had prior for the added amenities (moonroof, leather seats, heated seats, sportier look, etc.). Do know that tires on a hybrid are a little pricier and don’t last as long as the tires we have put on the other Toyotas we own. Appreciate the ‘22 with the Apple CarPlay and the enhanced cruise control and lane monitoring features, etc. This car was a good value overall for its age and mileage. And always feel like a Toyota is a good value as they last so long.

Its a great car. The price is competitive but should come down a little. I chose not to get it due to personal choice of getting into and out of it. My knees are not what they used to be and the kick panels on the camry are fairly large. Larger than most cars.

Is the 2022 Toyota Camry Hybrid a good car?
Yes — owners rate it 4.75/5, and our experts give it an 8.17/10. The model scores 9/10 across Form and function and Safety.
Owners consistently praise its impressive fuel economy, smooth ride, and quiet operation, and they also like the stylish design and advanced features. On the downside, the expert review notes that the focus on efficiency comes with some reduced responsiveness and occasional drivetrain droning.

Is the 2022 Toyota Camry Hybrid reliable?
Owners rate it 4.75/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a car that feels dependable and easy to live with, with praise centered on its smooth, quiet, and trouble-free character. The expert review also reinforces that it is built around straightforward, long-term usability rather than complexity.
Toyota’s ownership experience is further helped by the hybrid’s efficient setup and the brand’s emphasis on durability, and the model’s standard equipment is designed to keep daily use simple. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure the hybrid system and wear items have been maintained properly.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Toyota Camry Hybrid?
At 74.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had bodywork or higher mileage. Focus on condition details that matter in a hybrid sedan: tire wear, brake feel, cabin electronics, and whether the car has been maintained on schedule.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base LE uses 16-inch steel wheels, while upper trims move to 17-inch, 18-inch, and even 19-inch alloy wheels. The cabin and exterior are described as high-quality throughout, but the upper trims bring a more upscale presentation.
- Powertrain: You get a 2.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine, two electric motors, and a continuously variable automatic transmission with 208 horsepower. The LE is the efficiency leader at 51 mpg city/53 mpg highway/52 mpg combined, while the other trims return 44 mpg city/47 mpg highway/46 mpg combined.
- Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ is standard, with pre-collision braking and pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure alert with steering assist, Lane Tracing Assist, automatic high beams, and traffic-sign recognition. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is standard on XLE and XSE, but only available on LE, SE, and SE Nightshade Edition.
- Infotainment: The LE, SE, and SE Nightshade Edition use a 7-inch touchscreen, while XLE and XSE get a 9-inch touchscreen. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, and a WiFi hotspot are standard, and embedded navigation is available on XLE and XSE.
- Fuel efficiency: The LE is rated at 51 mpg city/53 mpg highway/52 mpg combined, while the other trims are rated at 44 mpg city/47 mpg highway/46 mpg combined.
Which 2022 Toyota Camry Hybrid trim should I buy?
The 2022 Toyota Camry Hybrid is offered in 5 trim levels: LE, SE, SE Nightshade Edition, XLE, and XSE.
Here's the short version:
- LE: This is the best-value choice if you want the strongest fuel economy and the lowest starting price. It gives you the hybrid basics, standard safety tech, and the same practical sedan formula without paying for extras you may not need.
- SE: Choose this if you want a little more style and a more engaging feel than the LE. It adds a sportier presentation and paddle shifters, while still keeping the Camry Hybrid’s efficiency focus intact.
- SE Nightshade Edition: This is the style pick, with blacked-out trim that makes the lineup’s newest addition stand out. It makes sense if appearance matters more to you than extra equipment.
- XLE: This is the comfort-and-tech upgrade, with the larger 9-inch touchscreen, available embedded navigation, and available premium JBL audio. It suits you if you want a more upscale daily driver.
- XSE: This is the most fully equipped trim, adding the richest tech and luxury features, including the available head-up display, bird’s-eye view camera, and ventilated seats. It is the right pick if you want the most premium Camry Hybrid experience.
Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is standard on XLE and XSE, while it is only available on LE, SE, and SE Nightshade Edition.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Toyota Camry Hybrid?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 33.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 593 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.56% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 74.9% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $23,581, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Toyota Camry Hybrid's resale value?
The current average of $24,684 sits slightly below last year's $25,864.
That softer pricing suggests the market has cooled a bit, which can help you buy more confidently now. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and maintenance history rather than just model-year desirability.
Because the Camry Hybrid still has broad appeal as an efficient, practical sedan, well-kept examples should remain easier to move than less efficient alternatives. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.75/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Toyota Camry Hybrid safe?
The 2022 Toyota Camry Hybrid earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, and the 2021 model received the highest Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ is standard, and it includes pre-collision braking with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure alert with steering assist, Lane Tracing Assist, automatic high beams, and traffic-sign recognition. The car also comes standard with Toyota’s Star safety system, 10 airbags, rear seat reminder, automatic engine shut-off, and hill start assist control.
A blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert is standard on XLE and XSE, but only available on LE, SE, and SE Nightshade Edition. The main caveat is that IIHS has not published a 2022 rating, so the strongest crash-test signal here is the NHTSA result and the carryover safety setup.
Should I buy a 2022 Toyota Camry Hybrid or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 33.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 74.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.56% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.75/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2022 adds the SE Nightshade Edition, which brings blacked-out trim to the hybrid lineup.
Consider the 2023 if:
- At $26,627, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $24,684 average.
- It adds bronze wheels and Reservoir Blue paint on the Nightshade Edition.
The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2022 is the smarter buy because it combines lower pricing with strong owner satisfaction and broad efficiency appeal. If you’re willing to pay more for a newer model-year alternative, the 2023 is worth a look, but the 2022 remains the more compelling choice for price-sensitive buyers.
