CarGurus Analysis: 2022 Jeep Wrangler
overall

Summary
With 8,645 currently listed for sale and an average price of $30,520, 34.4% of 2022 Jeep Wranglers for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Jeep Wrangler 4.93 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 5.5 / 10.
86.1% of 2022 Wrangler models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2022 Jeep Wrangler stands out because it is still one of the few vehicles that combines retro styling with true open-air versatility and serious off-road ability. It can be had as a two-door or four-door convertible, and it also offers removable doors and a fold-down windshield. That unusual mix gives it a character that is hard to mistake for anything else, and it helps explain why the Wrangler remains such a distinctive choice even as other vehicles have moved into its territory.
What makes the 2022 Wrangler appealing is the way it blends personality with capability. It offers multiple powertrain options, it is fun to drive, and it delivers impressive off-road performance. At the same time, it is not trying to hide its compromises: poor fuel economy, poor ride quality, and unimpressive safety ratings are part of the package. That tradeoff is central to the Wrangler’s appeal, since buyers are choosing a vehicle that prioritizes adventure and individuality over everyday polish.
Owners echo that same appeal, often praising the 2022 Jeep Wrangler’s iconic design, customizable features, and off-road performance. They also like the soft top and the overall driving experience. Some, however, note that it can feel overpriced and point to gas mileage and certain basic design choices as drawbacks.

I absolutely LOVE my jeep. It has so many features that are so convenient and worth every extra penny .This is also my first car and I don’t care that I spent more than 50k on a car. I had the money and it’s been my dream car since I was younger. The overall worth to me already is more than what I spent and I’d gladly make the same decision over again. It’s absolutely gorgeous. If you love it, you want it and can afford it, GO FOR IT! Strongly recommend

How much does the 2022 Jeep Wrangler cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $30,463 |
| Year-Round Low | $30,463 |
| Year-Round High | $34,056 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $34,056 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −10.55% |
Prices have softened 10.55% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 8,652 listings available, which suggests you should have a decent range of choices.
Is the 2022 Jeep Wrangler a good car?
Yes — the 2022 Jeep Wrangler earns a 4.93/5 user rating and a 5.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.
Owners consistently praise its iconic design, fun driving experience, and customizable features. They also like the soft top and the Wrangler’s off-road performance, which lines up with its adventurous personality.
The trade-offs are just as clear: the ride can be rough, fuel economy is poor, and some buyers may find the pricing hard to justify. That makes it a better fit if you want open-air capability and character more than everyday polish.
With the Wrangler’s purpose-built setup and broad appeal to adventure-minded shoppers, it still draws interest from buyers who value capability over comfort. Good and great deals account for 34.8% of listings, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2022 Jeep Wrangler reliable?
Owners rate it 4.93/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback points to a vehicle that owners tend to trust for its durability, with praise for its customizable setup and off-road capability. The expert evaluation also emphasizes that the Wrangler is built around a rugged, go-anywhere character that rewards buyers who understand its mission.
The 3.6-liter V6 with eTorque mild-hybrid electrification adds a little extra muscle when pulling away from a stop, and the 48-volt system can help overall efficiency. That kind of setup supports everyday dependability, especially if you keep up with routine maintenance.
If you buy used, the biggest long-term ownership risk is accepting a vehicle whose ruggedness comes with more wear-and-tear sensitivity than a typical crossover.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Jeep Wrangler?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 86% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still run a history report on any Wrangler you’re considering, even if the listing looks clean. A pre-purchase inspection matters here because condition can vary a lot depending on how hard the vehicle was used. Focus especially on signs of off-road wear, roof and door hardware condition, and any evidence of modifications or heavy use.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The core trims are Sport, Sport S, Sahara, and Rubicon. Base versions can feel pretty basic, and the more expensive builds add the kind of equipment that makes daily use easier.
- Powertrain: You can choose among a turbocharged four-cylinder, gasoline V6, turbodiesel V6, gas V8, or plug-in hybrid powertrain. The turbo-four and V6 engines come standard with a six-speed manual transmission, and an eight-speed automatic is available.
- Safety package: The Safety Group adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors. The Advanced Safety Group adds adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and automatic high-beam headlights.
- Infotainment: The standard setup uses a 7-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. The larger 8.4-inch system adds satellite radio, connected services, a WiFi hotspot, navigation, and an Alpine premium sound system.
- Fuel efficiency: The eTorque V6 is rated at 21 mpg in combined driving, though real-world results can be lower.
Which 2022 Jeep Wrangler trim should I buy?
The 2022 Jeep Wrangler is offered in 4 trim levels: Sport, Sport S, Sahara, and Rubicon.
Here's the short version:
- Sport: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the Wrangler experience at the lowest starting point and plan to keep things simple.
- Sport S: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it builds on the base setup without pushing you into the pricier upper end.
- Sahara: Choose this if you want a more comfort-oriented Wrangler with a broader equipment mix for everyday use.
- Rubicon: This is the trim to target if off-road capability is your priority and you want the most trail-focused setup.
The Safety Group and Advanced Safety Group are optional rather than standard, so check carefully for those packages on any used listing.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Jeep Wrangler?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.
- Deal availability: 34.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 8,652 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.55% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 86.0% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $30,463, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Jeep Wrangler's resale value?
The current average of $30,463 sits slightly below last year's $34,056.
That softer pricing can work in your favor if you’re buying now, but it also means future sellers may need to be realistic about expectations. The Wrangler’s value is still supported by strong demand from shoppers who want its open-air design and off-road identity.
If prices continue to normalize, resale should remain steadier for well-kept examples with desirable equipment and clean history. Higher-mileage or heavily modified trucks may face more pushback from buyers.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.93/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Jeep Wrangler safe?
The Jeep Wrangler earns a three-star rating for rollover resistance from NHTSA, and IIHS testing rates it Marginal for the small overlap front crash test and Marginal in the side-impact test. Headlights rate Poor with the standard units and Marginal with the LED upgrades.
It earns a 2/10 safety score from our experts.
The Safety Group includes blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors. The Advanced Safety Group adds adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and automatic high-beam headlights.
That package helps, but the Wrangler’s crash-test results remain a clear caution for used buyers. If safety is a top priority, you should inspect the equipment list carefully and weigh whether the Wrangler’s strengths outweigh its limitations.
Should I buy a 2022 Jeep Wrangler or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 34.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 86% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.55% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.93/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2022 adds a new air filtration system and a few notable equipment updates.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $28,130, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $30,463 average.
- It offers distinctive four-door powertrain choices that broaden its appeal.
Consider the 2023 if:
- At $35,365, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $30,463 average.
- It keeps the Wrangler focused on off-road ability while adding more clarity around trim and equipment choices.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, inventory, and satisfaction, the 2022 is the smart default. If you’re shopping on a tighter budget, the 2021 can save you money, while the 2023 makes sense if you’re willing to pay more for a newer model-year alternative.
