What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any candidate and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re looking at a higher-mileage example or a vehicle with premium equipment. Focus on overall condition, because this SUV can be expensive when loaded and you’ll want to confirm that the cabin, electronics, and drivetrain have been maintained properly.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: All Grand Cherokee L trim levels look impressive, but the higher trims add black roofs, larger wheels, more chrome, and a much more upscale cabin. The base trim uses six-speaker or nine-speaker no-name stereos, while upper trims bring more premium equipment.
• Powertrain: Two familiar engines are available: a 3.6-liter V6 or a 5.7-liter V8, both paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission with rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. The V6 is described as underpowered in this heavy SUV, while the V8 brings stronger output.
• Safety package: Adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, forward automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, and rear parking sensors come standard. Automatic parking, front cross-traffic alert, driver attention monitor, and traffic sign recognition are standard on the Summit trims and optional on the Overland.
• Infotainment: Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, and Jeep added an optional 10.3-inch passenger display plus optional dual 10.1-inch rear touchscreens with Amazon Fire TV. Two phones can be connected at once.
• Fuel efficiency: The V6 is rated at 18 mpg city, 25 mpg highway, and 21 mpg combined. The V8 is rated at 14 mpg city, 22 mpg highway, and 17 mpg combined.

Which 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L trim should I buy?

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L is offered in 5 trim levels: Laredo, Overland, Summit, Summit Reserve, and Overland with the Off-Road Group.

Here's the short version:

• Laredo: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Grand Cherokee L’s core three-row layout and upscale design at the lowest price. It makes sense if you want the space and style without chasing luxury extras.
• Overland: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it unlocks more premium equipment and can be paired with the Off-Road Group. That package adds all-terrain tires, skid plates, smaller 18-inch wheels, and the Jeep Trail-Rated badge.
• Summit: This trim adds more luxury and convenience gear, including automatic parking, front cross-traffic alert, driver attention monitor, and traffic sign recognition. It suits you if you want a more premium daily driver.
• Summit Reserve: This is the top luxury choice, with the 19-speaker McIntosh stereo and the richest feature set. It’s the one to target if you want the most upscale Grand Cherokee L experience.
• Overland with the Off-Road Group: This is the trim to choose if you want the most trail-ready setup in the lineup. It’s the only trim that earns the Jeep Trail-Rated badge.

The safety package starts with standard driver aids on all trims, while the Summit trims add more advanced features and the Overland can be optioned up.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L?

• Deal availability: 40.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 6,714 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.39% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 86.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $27,739, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L's resale value?

The current average of $27,739 sits slightly below last year's $31,663.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer but may temper near-term resale expectations if you plan to sell soon. For a future seller, the key takeaway is that pricing momentum has softened, so holding the vehicle longer may be necessary to recover more value.

Even so, a well-equipped Grand Cherokee L with strong condition and desirable features should remain appealing to shoppers who want a premium three-row SUV. Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.33/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L safe?

The 2022 Grand Cherokee L has not yet been tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, forward automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, and rear parking sensors come standard. Driver and passenger knee airbags also come standard, along with a rear seat alert for possible unattended passengers and trailer sway control.

Higher trims add more advanced safety and driver-assistance features, including automatic parking, front cross-traffic alert, driver attention monitor, and traffic sign recognition on the Summit trims, with those features optional on the Overland. If you want the fullest safety tech suite, focus on those upper trims.

Should I buy a 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 40.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.39% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.33/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It pairs a premium cabin with wireless smartphone integration and a more polished feel than Jeep’s traditional rugged image.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $25,837, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $27,739 average.
• It introduced Jeep’s first three-row SUV in years.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $30,961, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $27,739 average.
• It keeps the same comfort-focused formula while facing higher prices and new rivals.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, inventory, and modern features, the 2022 is the smart default. If you’re shopping strictly on budget, the 2021 can save you money, while the 2023 makes sense only if you’re willing to pay more for a newer model year.
