Jaguar underwent a technological and design revolution in the past fifteen years, culminating in its first all-electric vehicle, the I-Pace SUV. After skipping the 2021 model year entirely, the I-Pace returns for 2022 with a host of enhancements.

Albeit subtle, this year’s I-Pace packs some style changes, most notably a gray grille, an enhanced paint palette, and new wheel options. In addition to the existing Black Exterior Pack, there’s a new Bright Pack option, which chromes the grille surround, mirror caps, side window surrounds, and rear diffuser.

Inside, the biggest change is the new Pivi Pro infotainment system. It comprises a 12.3-inch LCD instrument cluster, and 10-inch upper and 5-inch lower touchscreens. Pivi Pro is significantly faster than the system it replaces and sports specific enhancements for EV life.

The sole powertrain for the I-Pace is called EV400 and comprises dual electric motors and a 90-kilowatt-hour battery pack. Output is 394 horsepower and 512 pound-feet of torque. All-wheel drive (AWD) and air suspension are standard and combine with the I-Pace’s low center of gravity for an athletic ride.

The I-Pace has an EPA-rated 253 miles of range, as well as standard DC fast-charging that allows for an 80 percent charge in just 40 minutes, according to Jaguar. But thanks to a new 11-kilowatt charger, Level 2 home charging takes 8.6 hours versus last year’s 13, Jaguar claims. The I-Pace also gets efficiency ratings of 80 MPGe city, 72 MPGe highway, and 76 MPGe combined. Should you feel inclined to floor it, the I-Pace will hit 60 miles per hour in around 4.5 seconds, Jaguar says.

This year, there’s just the formerly premium HSE trim, albeit at a much lower price of entry than before. That gets you 20-inch wheels, LED exterior lighting, heated and cooled front seats, heated rear seats, Windsor leather upholstery, a Meridian 3D surround sound system, and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity. From there, you can add LED front fog lights, premium wheels in 20- and 22-inch sizes, the aforementioned visual packs, extended leather, an upgraded headliner, a heated steering wheel, a heated windshield, heated washer jets, four-zone climate control, a cabin air ionization system, a hands-free liftgate, and wireless phone charging.

The I-Pace puts its best foot forward on the safety front, with all units getting a rear-view camera, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control with steering assist and stop-and-go, and blind-spot monitoring. The only safety options are a digital rearview mirror and a surround-view camera system. Neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has ever evaluated the I-Pace, but that’s not unusual for low-volume luxury electric vehicles.

The I-Pace represents the future of Jaguar, and as such, Jaguar has bestowed it with some enticing and important updates for 2022.
