FAQs
The I-Pace is Jaguar’s fully-electric crossover, combining impressive performance with elegant and sophisticated design. Rivals in this small but growing space include the Tesla Model X and Audi e-tron. The I-Pace enters its third model year for 2021, gaining minor feature updates and improved charging capability.
The muscular yet graceful I-Pace effectively upsizes Jaguar’s look and feel to crossover size and proportions. Not much changes this year, except for a new Bright package that adds chrome trim combined with Atlas Grey accents. LED lighting comes standard.
The powertrain is the same across the I-Pace lineup and consists of two electric motors and a 90-kilowatt-hour battery pack, with standard all-wheel drive (AWD). It’s rated for 394 horsepower and 512 pound-feet of torque, and EPA ratings of 80 city, 72 highway, and 76 combined miles-per-gallon equivalent (MPGe). This year, the I-Pace gets a new onboard charger, upgrading to an 11-kilowatt version that can fully recharge in 8.6 hours, as compared to the 12.6-hour charge time of the old 7-kW charger.
The I-Pace’s S, SE, and HSE trim levels carry over. Standard features include keyless entry and pushbutton start, and you’ll pay extra for amenities like leather upholstery, a heated steering wheel, and quad-zone climate control.
The I-Pace features dual infotainment displays with 10.5-inch upper and 5.5-inch lower screens. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration come standard along with a Meridian audio system and, new for this year, an included 4G data plan and a feature that provides on-the-go battery charging information, including charging-station locations. An upgraded Meridian audio system is available, and wireless phone charging is a new option for 2021.
Neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has evaluated the I-Pace for crashworthiness. Standard safety features include a reversing camera, forward-collision warning, automatic-emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, and lane-keeping assist. This year, Jaguar adds a 360-degree camera system to the options list, joining adaptive cruise control and blind-spot monitoring.
As far as premium electric crossovers go, the I-Pace is an engaging option. It stands out from its rivals, as well as the other models in Jaguar’s current lineup.
