CarGurus Analysis: 2022 Hyundai Tucson
overall

Summary
With 4,083 currently listed for sale and an average price of $20,524, 33.1% of 2022 Hyundai Tucsons for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Hyundai Tucson 4.82 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.33 / 10.
82.9% of 2022 Tucson models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2022 Hyundai Tucson stands out for its redesigned shape and the extra room that comes with it. It is longer and wider than before, which gives it more cargo and passenger space. That larger footprint helps the Tucson feel more practical in the compact SUV class, especially for buyers who want a small SUV that does not feel cramped.
Inside, the Tucson’s appeal comes from its high-tech cabin and comfortable ride. Hyundai also gives it a competent engine lineup and standard advanced safety features, which add to its everyday usefulness. The overall package is aimed at shoppers who want a spacious, well-equipped SUV that makes a strong case for a test drive.
There are tradeoffs, though. The Tucson’s performance is described as fairly pedestrian, and the base engine is underwhelming. Even so, its comfort, space, and safety equipment make it a compelling choice for buyers who value practicality over excitement.

I love all the bells and whistles! The ability to set all your personal preferences-seat settings, heat/air,radio,phone,dash board view, and with your name! The blind spots are nice. It was a great deal with decent low mileage, limited AWD, I got more for my money. Fully covered with great warrantys

I LOVE this car! I researched and waited for the right one for months! I am so pleased with how smooth it drives and the fancy features! My know knock would be the lack of power. It doesn’t accelerate very quickly but I didn’t really expect it to. Overall I’m obsessed and can’t wait to drive it for many years to come

How much does the 2022 Hyundai Tucson cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $20,469 |
| Year-Round Low | $20,469 |
| Year-Round High | $22,610 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $22,608 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −9.46% |
Prices have softened 9.46% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 4,045 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
Is the 2022 Hyundai Tucson a good car?
Yes — the 2022 Hyundai Tucson earns a 4.82/5 user rating and an 8.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Cost effectiveness, Technology, and Safety.
Owners consistently praise the smooth ride, excellent safety features, stylish design, comfort, and spacious interior. That lines up well with the Tucson’s practical use case as a roomy compact SUV for families and everyday commuting.
The main trade-offs are the fairly pedestrian performance and the underwhelming base engine, so you should not expect a sporty driving experience. Even so, the Tucson’s strong value, comfort, and equipment make it a compelling choice if you want a well-rounded SUV rather than something quick.
With 34.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have room to shop selectively.
Is the 2022 Hyundai Tucson reliable?
Owners rate it 4.82/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with many drivers saying they feel very satisfied with their Tucson over time. That kind of response usually matters more than a single feature list when you are shopping used.
Hyundai also backs the Tucson with a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty, 5-year/60,000-mile new vehicle warranty, 7-year anti-perforation coverage, and 3 years/36,000 miles of complimentary oil changes and tire rotations. That support can help reduce early ownership costs.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure the specific vehicle was maintained properly and has not been neglected.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Hyundai Tucson?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still run a history report on any Tucson you are considering, even if the listing looks clean. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection if you are looking at a higher-mileage example or one with a long option list. Focus on overall condition, because the Tucson’s appeal depends heavily on how well its cabin, tech, and safety equipment have been kept up.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base SE gets standard LED daytime running lights, Bi-LED headlights, LED front turn signals, roof rails omitted, and 17-inch wheels, while higher trims add features like roof rails, heated outside mirrors, blind-spot monitoring indicators, and the option for a sunroof.
- Powertrain: You can shop a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 187 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque, or a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder hybrid with 226 total system horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque.
- Safety package: Hyundai SmartSense includes forward collision-avoidance assist with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane-keep assist, automatic high beams, driver attention monitor, rear occupant alert, speed limit assist, and leading vehicle departure alert. Higher trims can add blind-spot warning with collision avoidance assist, rear cross-traffic alert with collision avoidance assist, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, a surround-view camera system, and remote parking assist.
- Infotainment: Standard equipment includes an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, HD Radio, and two USB ports. A 10.25-inch screen is available, but it requires a wired connection for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
- Fuel efficiency: Front-wheel-drive gas models are rated at 26 mpg city, 33 mpg highway, and 29 mpg combined, while AWD gas models return 24 mpg city, 29 mpg highway, and 26 mpg combined. The hybrid is rated at 37 mpg city, 36 mpg highway, and 37 mpg combined, with the most efficient hybrid at 38 mpg city/highway/combined.
Which 2022 Hyundai Tucson trim should I buy?
The 2022 Hyundai Tucson is offered in 4 trim levels: SE, SEL, Blue, and Limited.
Here's the short version:
- SE: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Tucson’s core redesign, standard safety tech, and the basic 8-inch touchscreen with wireless smartphone integration. It makes sense if you want the lowest price and are comfortable skipping the extra convenience features.
- SEL: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds useful everyday upgrades like satellite radio, Blue Link app compatibility, rear USB ports, rear air vents, and dual-zone automatic climate control. It also opens the door to the Convenience Package, which brings many of the Limited’s features at a lower cost.
- Blue: This trim is the efficiency-focused choice if you want the hybrid powertrain and its stronger fuel economy. It is a smart pick if you care more about running costs than extra luxury features.
- Limited: This is the most upscale gas-model choice, with the richest feature set and the most premium feel in the lineup. It suits you best if you want the Tucson with the most comfort and convenience equipment.
Safety content notes that the Tucson’s driver-assistance suite is extensive, with several advanced features available on higher trims.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Hyundai Tucson?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 34.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 4,045 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.46% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 82.6% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $20,469, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Hyundai Tucson's resale value?
The current average of $20,469 sits slightly below last year's $22,608.
That softer pricing suggests the Tucson has become more accessible for used buyers, but it also means a future seller may need to price competitively to stand out. If you buy at the current average or below, you may have less room for appreciation, but you also reduce your upfront exposure.
The good news is that the Tucson’s strong reputation for comfort, safety, and owner satisfaction should help support demand when you eventually resell it. Well-kept examples with clean history and desirable equipment should remain easier to move than neglected ones.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.82/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Hyundai Tucson safe?
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
The Tucson was not tested and rated by IIHS or NHTSA for this model year, so you should lean on its equipment list rather than crash-test results. Hyundai SmartSense is the standard driver-assistance suite, and it includes forward collision-avoidance assist with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane-keep assist, automatic high beams, driver attention monitor, rear occupant alert, speed limit assist, and leading vehicle departure alert.
Higher trims can add blind-spot warning with collision avoidance assist, rear cross-traffic alert with collision avoidance assist, safe exit warning, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, a surround-view camera system, parking collision avoidance assist, and remote parking assist. That makes the Tucson especially appealing if you want a compact SUV with a broad safety feature set.
Should I buy a 2022 Hyundai Tucson or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 34.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.46% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.82/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The redesign brings a roomier cabin, a high-tech interior, and a strong safety story.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $17,494, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $20,469 average.
- It is the final model year of its generation, which gives it a strong value proposition.
The bottom line: If you want the roomier redesign, stronger tech, and a more modern overall package, the 2022 is the better long-term pick. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2021 is the smarter value play and still gives you a well-equipped compact SUV.
