How much does the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe cost?

Prices have softened 9.14% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 4,608 listings available, which suggests you should have a healthy number of options to compare.

Is the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe earns a 4.8/5 user rating and an 8.3/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Cost effectiveness and Safety.

Drivers consistently praise its excellent value, numerous tech features, and comfortable ride. They also highlight the spacious interior and advanced safety features, which fit well with its role as a well-rounded family SUV.

The main trade-offs are the underwhelming base engine and the fairly pedestrian performance. That said, the Santa Fe still makes sense if you want a roomy midsize SUV with strong everyday usability rather than a luxury badge.

With a moderate market verdict and a strong share of good and great deals, it remains a practical buy for shoppers who value equipment and comfort.

Is the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Drivers describe it as dependable in everyday use, with praise centered on its comfortable ride, spacious cabin, and the sense that it delivers a trouble-free ownership experience. The review summary also points to strong value and useful technology, both of which tend to support confidence over time.

The expert evaluation reinforces that impression by noting the Santa Fe’s refined, composed behavior and its ability to handle typical commuting and road-trip duty without complaint. Hyundai’s complimentary maintenance and long warranty coverage also help reduce early ownership worries.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that the base powertrain may feel strained if you regularly want stronger acceleration or frequent highway passing power.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a vehicle history report on any listing you like, because clean inventory percentages do not replace a proper records check. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with visible wear. Focus on overall condition, especially how the cabin, electronics, and safety systems have held up.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The XRT adds blacked-out exterior details, unique black alloy wheels, additional lower body cladding, fake front and rear skid plates, nearly useless running boards, and roof-rail crossbars that look like basket handles. It includes the SEL’s equipment and Convenience Package, but the visual changes are the main draw, so you should decide whether the styling is worth paying for.
• Powertrain: The standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder makes 191 horsepower and 181 pound-feet of torque. It is adequate for normal commuting and highway cruising, but it can feel short on urgency when you want stronger passing power or hill-climbing performance.
• Safety package: Hyundai SmartSense includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian and cyclist detection, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, and adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability. Highway Driving Assist is not available for the XRT trim level.
• Infotainment: The XRT has a 12.3-inch digital instrumentation panel and an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, along with Bluetooth, satellite radio, and Bluelink connected services.
• Fuel efficiency: The official EPA fuel economy rating is 24 mpg.

Which 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe trim should I buy?

The 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe is offered in 5 trim levels: SE, SEL, XRT, Limited, Calligraphy.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the lowest-cost path into the Santa Fe lineup, but you should expect fewer features than the higher trims.
• SEL: This is the best-value trim because it builds on the SE with more equipment and serves as the foundation for the XRT’s added content.
• XRT: This is the style-focused choice, adding the outdoor-themed appearance package, blacked-out details, and the XRT-specific cabin and exterior treatment.
• Limited: This is the better pick if you want more power, since it upgrades to the turbocharged 2.5-liter engine.
• Calligraphy: This is the most upscale choice, and it also gets the turbocharged engine for buyers who want the most premium Santa Fe experience.

Hyundai expands blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and Safe Exit Assist to the Santa Fe SE trim level later in the year, so that safety-package update is worth checking on any SE you consider.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe?

The market looks moderately favorable if you’re a selective buyer.

• Deal availability: 39.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 4,608 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.14% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 86.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $21,070, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe's resale value?

The current average of $21,070 sits slightly below last year's $23,188.

That price movement suggests the Santa Fe has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future resale stability if you buy at the right price. If you purchase near the current average or below it, you may have less downside left than a buyer who paid closer to last year’s higher market level.

Strong equipment, broad appeal, and a solid reputation for value can help keep demand steady when you eventually sell. A well-kept example with desirable features should be easier to move than one with visible wear or a weak service history.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe safe?

The 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and earns five-star ratings in every NHTSA test except for a four-star rollover resistance score.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Hyundai SmartSense brings forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian and cyclist detection, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, and adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability. Safe Exit Assist is also standard, and the ultrasonic rear occupant alert adds another useful layer for families.

One caveat is that Highway Driving Assist is not available on the XRT trim level. Even so, the tested combination of adaptive cruise control and lane-centering assistance worked well, and the Santa Fe’s safety tech generally behaved with the kind of refinement that encourages you to leave it turned on.

Should I buy a 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 39.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.14% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• This year adds the XRT trim and expands safety availability later in the year.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $19,274, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $21,070 average.
• It brings a substantial update with new styling, controls, displays, engines, technology, and safety systems.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $24,023, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $21,070 average.
• It carries over nearly unchanged while adding minor equipment changes and a bit more base-engine horsepower.

The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2022 if you want the best mix of value, safety, and equipment at today’s used-car pricing. If your budget is tighter, the 2021 can still be a smart buy, while the 2023 makes sense only if you want the newer model-year pricing and don’t mind paying more.
