CarGurus Analysis: 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe
overall

Summary
With 1,818 currently listed for sale and an average price of $15,158, 34.4% of 2019 Hyundai Santa Fes for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe 4.85 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.17 / 10.
72.8% of 2019 Santa Fe models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe stands out as a value-focused crossover with a strong mix of size, safety features, and easy-to-use technology. It is listed as a midsize SUV, but the description notes that it fits somewhere between compact crossovers and larger midsize SUVs, which helps explain why it can appeal to shoppers looking for something with a little more presence than a typical compact without moving all the way up in size. The same source also says it is a true quality crossover and a great value when cross-shopped against other compact crossovers.
It is also notable because this model replaces the 2-row Santa Fe Sport, while the previous Santa Fe continues as a 3-row version under the Santa Fe XL name. That makes the 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe the version aimed at buyers who want a more modern two-row setup rather than a larger family hauler. Owners echo many of the same strengths, especially value, safety features, comfort, spaciousness, and ride quality, though some also mention road noise and occasional reliability concerns, particularly with the battery.

Plenty of room while being able to drive easily in congested areas. A great value for a mid sized SUV. I replaced my Equinox for this model and Im pleased.

Awesome value and features for your money especially when you buy a used Hyundai Santa Fe. No other SUV will offer the same safety and comfort features at this price point.

I like the styling and features. The base Model the SE is very similar to the SEL. The SEL has few extra features like power seats, keyless ignition but are functionally similar. I was looking for a vehicle around $20k with low mileage so I ended up with a SE. I really like the drive and handling and the interior is very roomy for this category of SUV. The rating on Consumer Reports was quite good for this model year which is nearly identical to the 2020. It also has many safety features as standard equipment and you may still get a limited warranty based on mileage but it is not the full 100,000 mile one that Hyundai gives it is about 1/2 and it should be listed in the CarFax sheet.

| Average Price a Year Ago | $17,257 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −12.26% |

Is the 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe a good car?
Yes — the 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe earns a 4.85/5 user rating and an 8.17/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Technology and Safety.
Owners consistently praise its value, safety features, and comfort, and they also highlight the spacious interior and ride quality. That lines up with the overview: you’re looking at a crossover that sits between compact and midsize SUVs, so it can work well if you want more presence than a typical compact without stepping up to a larger family hauler. With 35.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still gives you room to shop selectively.
Is the 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe reliable?
Owners rate it 4.85/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The owner feedback also points to a vehicle that feels dependable and solid in daily use, with repeated praise for comfort, value, and the kind of ownership experience you can count on over time.
The expert evaluation reinforces that impression by describing the Santa Fe as a true quality crossover and a great value when compared with compact crossovers. The cost-effectiveness commentary also frames it as an SUV with the goods to be taken seriously, which supports the idea that it should hold up well as a used buy if it has been maintained properly.
That said, some owners mention occasional reliability concerns, particularly regarding the battery, so a used example with a clean maintenance record is the safer long-term bet.
What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe?
At 73.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. After that, prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on overall condition, signs of wear, and whether the vehicle’s features and electronics work as expected.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The SE comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, high-beam assist, power heated side mirrors, LED daytime running lights, manual seats, and remote keyless entry. The SEL adds fog lights, an 8-way power driver’s seat, heated front seats, and push-button start. The SEL Plus adds 18-inch alloy wheels, parking sensors, rear-occupant alert, dual automatic climate control, and a 630-watt Infinity sound system with 12 speakers. The Limited adds full LED head- and taillights, turn signals in the side mirrors, satin chrome door handles, a panoramic sunroof, and leather seating. The Ultimate adds rain-sensing wipers, memory settings for the front seats, heated front and rear seats, and ventilated front seats.
- Powertrain: All trims use a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder with 185 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque, while the Limited and Ultimate can be had with a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder making 235 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. Power goes through an 8-speed automatic to front-wheel drive or available all-wheel drive. The base engine is described as sluggish, while the turbo is praised for strong acceleration.
- Safety package: Hyundai Smart Sense includes forward-collision avoidance, blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, and rear cross-path detection. Safe Exit Assist is also standard. The system is especially useful because it ties the rear child-proof locks to blind-spot monitoring.
- Infotainment: The base SE gets a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, and a USB port. SEL and above add satellite radio, HD Radio, and BlueLink with Alexa integration. The Ultimate upgrades to an 8-inch touchscreen and adds a wireless charging pad.
- Fuel efficiency: The front-wheel-drive 2.4-liter version is rated at 22 mpg city, 29 highway, 25 combined. The all-wheel-drive turbo version is rated at 19 mpg city, 24 highway, 21 combined.
Which 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe trim should I buy?
The 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe is offered in 5 trim levels: SE, SEL, SEL Plus, Limited, and Ultimate.
Here's the short version:
- SE: This is the best-value trim if you want the lowest entry price and still want a lot of standard equipment, including Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a 7-inch touchscreen, and Hyundai’s core safety tech.
- SEL: This is the smart step up if you want more everyday comfort, thanks to heated front seats, push-button start, and a power driver’s seat without jumping too far in price.
- SEL Plus: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds useful upgrades like parking sensors, rear-occupant alert, dual-zone climate control, and the upgraded Infinity audio system.
- Limited: Choose this if you want a more premium feel, with leather seating, a panoramic sunroof, and full LED lighting.
- Ultimate: This is the fully loaded choice, with ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, memory settings, rain-sensing wipers, and the larger touchscreen.
Safety-wise, the standard Smart Sense suite is a major strength across the lineup, and the Safe Exit Assist feature is a standout addition.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile options.
- Deal availability: 35.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,817 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.26% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 73.2% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $15,116, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe's resale value?
The current average of $15,141 sits slightly below last year's $17,257.
That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. For a future seller, that also means resale value may be more sensitive to condition, mileage, and trim choice than it would be in a rising market. Well-equipped versions with strong feature content should be easier to move than bare-bones examples, especially if they’ve been maintained carefully.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.85/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe safe?
The 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS and five-star ratings from NHTSA.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Hyundai’s Smart Sense suite is standard, and it includes forward-collision avoidance, blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, and rear cross-path detection. Safe Exit Assist is also standard, and it adds a useful layer of protection when passengers are getting out near traffic.
Should I buy a 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2019 if:
- 35.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 73.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.26% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.85/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It replaces the 2-row Santa Fe Sport with a more modern two-row layout.
Consider the 2018 if:
- At $14,368, the 2018 costs less than the current year's $15,141 average.
- It is a bargain-focused 3-row family crossover with a practical, dependable character.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $16,794, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $15,141 average.
- It adds a standard rear-seat reminder and an available Blind-Spot View Monitor.
The bottom line: If you want the best mix of value, safety, and modern two-row packaging, the 2019 is the right starting point. If price is your top priority, the 2018 can save you money, while the 2020 makes sense if you want the newer feature set and are willing to pay more.
