overall

Summary
With 4,637 currently listed for sale and an average price of $21,730, 35.0% of 2022 Hyundai Santa Fes for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe 4.85 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.33 / 10.
88.0% of 2022 Santa Fe models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe stands out as a roomy midsize SUV that delivers strong value and a lot of standard appeal. It is especially worth a look if you do not need a third row, since those seats add weight and reduce cargo space. Hyundai also gives this model year a new plug-in hybrid version, while the standard lineup adds a new XRT trim designed to convey an outdoor lifestyle.
That XRT trim brings blacked-out exterior details, unique black alloy wheels, additional lower body cladding, fake front and rear skid plates, nearly useless running boards, and roof-rail crossbars that look like basket handles. Hyundai also expands blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and Safe Exit Assist to the Santa Fe SE trim level later in the year. The Santa Fe’s strengths include impressive technology, great safety ratings, and excellent value for money, though its base engine is underwhelming and fuel economy is poor.

This is very good choice for personal daily commute purposes. Has everything you need. Obviously SantaFe calligraphy has all the features provided by Hyundai, I feel wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto is missing.

Extraordinary value with many standard safety features and a luxurious interior. Ill take this poor mans Genesis anyway, saved a lot of money.

This vehicle has a lot of bang for the buck. It hits well above its class IMO. The comfort and ride quality is very good ... The Limited is as good as many luxury class vehicles including Lexus and M/B that cost 10s of thousands more. Lots of tech that does take some time to learn and get used to but helpful and functional, if you are into that. We were sold on it in about 5 minutes during test drive after dearching for a new ride for 6-8 months. We like it.

How much does the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $21,701 |
| Year-Round Low | $21,701 |
| Year-Round High | $23,874 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $23,874 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −9.10% |
Prices have softened 9.10% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 4,684 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe a good car?
Yes — the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe earns a 4.85/5 user rating and an 8.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Cost effectiveness and Safety.
Drivers consistently praise its excellent value, comfortable ride, and strong technology content. The roomy cabin and advanced safety features also come up often as reasons it stands out.
The main trade-offs are the underwhelming base engine and some noise from the turbo setup. It fits you best if you want a roomy midsize SUV with strong standard appeal and you do not need a third row.
With 35.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still offers some attractive opportunities.
Is the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe reliable?
Owners rate it 4.85/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with drivers repeatedly highlighting the Santa Fe’s long-term value and confidence-inspiring day-to-day use. The expert drive notes also reinforce that the SUV feels composed and refined in normal driving, which supports the sense that it’s easy to live with over time.
Hyundai’s generous warranty coverage and complimentary maintenance program add another layer of ownership reassurance. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about durability and more about choosing the right powertrain and condition, since the base engine can feel strained.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still run a history report on any listing you like, because accident-free status is only a starting point. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with optional equipment. Focus on overall condition, since the Santa Fe’s value proposition depends heavily on how well it has been maintained.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The XRT adds blacked-out exterior details, unique black alloy wheels, additional lower body cladding, fake front and rear skid plates, nearly useless running boards, and roof-rail crossbars. It also includes the SEL’s equipment and Convenience Package, but it does not feel as upscale as the Limited or Calligraphy trims.
- Powertrain: The standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder makes 191 horsepower and 181 pound-feet of torque. It is adequate for normal commuting, but it can feel short on passing power and uphill climbs.
- Safety package: Hyundai SmartSense includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian and cyclist detection, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, and adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability. Highway Driving Assist is not available on the XRT trim level.
- Infotainment: The XRT has a 12.3-inch digital instrumentation panel and an 8-inch touchscreen. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, along with Bluetooth, satellite radio, and Bluelink connected services with a complimentary three-year subscription.
- Fuel efficiency: The XRT returned 22.3 mpg in testing, and its official EPA rating is 24 mpg.
Which 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe trim should I buy?
The 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe is offered in 5 trim levels: SE, SEL, XRT, Limited, Calligraphy.
Here's the short version:
- SE: This is the entry point, but the available content points you toward higher trims if you want the Santa Fe’s best mix of features and value.
- SEL: This is the best-value trim because it sets you up for the XRT’s equipment and the Convenience Package while staying below the pricier turbo trims.
- XRT: Choose this if you want the blacked-out styling, added exterior cladding, and the full set of standard tech and safety features without moving up to the turbo models.
- Limited: This is the better pick if you want the stronger turbocharged engine and a more upscale feel.
- Calligraphy: This is the top choice if you want the most premium version of the Santa Fe lineup.
Hyundai expands blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and Safe Exit Assist to the Santa Fe SE trim level later in the year.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right listing.
- Deal availability: 35.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 4,684 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.10% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 87.9% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $21,701, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe's resale value?
The current average of $21,701 sits slightly below last year's $23,874.
That softer pricing can help you buy in at a more favorable point, but it also means future resale gains may be more limited if the market stays soft. If you plan to sell later, the Santa Fe’s broad appeal and strong feature content should help it remain competitive with other midsize SUVs.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.85/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe safe?
The 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and five-star ratings in every test performed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), with the exception of a four-star rollover resistance score.
It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.
Hyundai SmartSense includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian and cyclist detection, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, and adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability. Safe Exit Assist is standard, and the ultrasonic rear occupant alert system adds another useful layer of protection.
One caveat is that Highway Driving Assist is not available on the XRT trim level. Even so, the tested driver-assist systems worked cleanly and consistently, which is a strong sign for everyday safety confidence.
Should I buy a 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 35.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.10% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.85/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- This year adds the XRT trim and expands safety availability later in the year.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $19,746, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $21,701 average.
- It offers a major update with new styling, tech, and safety improvements.
Consider the 2023 if:
- At $24,836, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $21,701 average.
- It carries over nearly unchanged with minor equipment updates and a bit more base-engine horsepower.
The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2022 if you want the best balance of price, safety, and feature content. If your budget is tighter, the 2021 is the value play; if you want a newer carryover with only modest changes, the 2023 is the alternative.
