CarGurus Analysis: 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe
overall

Summary
With 327 currently listed for sale near Philadelphia, PA and an average price of $22,522.00, 37.9% of 2022 Hyundai Santa Fes for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe 4.85 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.33 / 10.
100.0% of 2022 Santa Fe models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe stands out as a midsize crossover SUV that delivers a lot of value as standard equipment. It is also a strong fit for buyers who want a roomy SUV but do not need a third row, since the third-row seats add weight and reduce cargo space. That combination makes the Santa Fe appealing as a practical, well-equipped family vehicle with a focus on everyday usefulness.
For this model year, the big news is a new plug-in hybrid version, while the standard lineup also gains a new XRT trim level designed to convey an outdoor lifestyle. In practical terms, that trim adds blacked-out exterior details, unique black alloy wheels, additional lower body cladding, fake front and rear skid plates, nearly useless running boards, and roof-rail crossbars that look like basket handles. Hyundai also expands blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and Safe Exit Assist to the Santa Fe SE trim level later in the year. Those strengths are balanced by some clear drawbacks, including an underwhelming base engine, fairly pedestrian performance, and poor fuel economy.

This is very good choice for personal daily commute purposes. Has everything you need. Obviously SantaFe calligraphy has all the features provided by Hyundai, I feel wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto is missing.

Extraordinary value with many standard safety features and a luxurious interior. Ill take this poor mans Genesis anyway, saved a lot of money.

This vehicle has a lot of bang for the buck. It hits well above its class IMO. The comfort and ride quality is very good ... The Limited is as good as many luxury class vehicles including Lexus and M/B that cost 10s of thousands more. Lots of tech that does take some time to learn and get used to but helpful and functional, if you are into that. We were sold on it in about 5 minutes during test drive after dearching for a new ride for 6-8 months. We like it.

How much does the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $21,835 |
| Year-Round Low | $21,843.86 |
| Year-Round High | $24,115.62 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $24,114 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −9.45% |
Prices have softened 9.45% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
With 4,559 listings available, you have a solid amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
If you find a listing below $21,843.86, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe a good car?
Yes — the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe earns a 4.85/5 user rating and an 8.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Cost effectiveness and Safety.
Drivers consistently praise its excellent value, numerous tech features, and comfortable ride. They also highlight the spacious interior and advanced safety features, which fit well with a practical family-SUV use case.
The trade-offs are clear, though: the base engine can feel lacking, and the turbo engine can bring some noise under acceleration. That means you should expect a strong everyday commuter and family hauler, not a performance-focused SUV.
With its roomy two-row layout and emphasis on everyday usefulness, it makes the most sense if you want a well-equipped midsize crossover without needing a third row. Good and great deals account for 29.9% of listings, so there is still room to shop selectively.
Is the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe reliable?
Owners rate it 4.85/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Drivers describe it as dependable, trouble-free, and a vehicle they feel good about keeping for the long haul. The ownership experience also gets a boost from its strong value, comfortable ride, and useful technology, which tend to support confidence over time.
Hyundai’s value-oriented ownership package adds to that impression, including a generous warranty and complimentary maintenance coverage. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about durability and more about choosing the right powertrain and avoiding a version that feels underpowered for your needs.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the report carefully, because accident-free status is only a starting point. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on body condition, interior wear, and how well the electronics and driver-assistance features work. If you are comparing listings, pay close attention to trim equipment so you do not overpay for cosmetic upgrades that do not improve day-to-day usability.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The XRT adds blacked-out exterior details, unique black alloy wheels, lower body cladding, fake skid plates, nearly useless running boards, and roof-rail crossbars, but it does not meaningfully improve capability. The base trim also misses some equipment that appears later in the lineup, so you should compare feature content carefully before paying extra for appearance-focused upgrades.
- Powertrain: The standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder makes 191 horsepower and 181 pound-feet of torque, and it is adequate for normal commuting and highway cruising. If you want stronger acceleration, the turbocharged 2.5-liter in higher trims delivers 281 hp and 311 lb-ft.
- Safety package: Hyundai SmartSense includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian and cyclist detection, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, and adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability. Highway Driving Assist is not available on the XRT trim level.
- Infotainment: The XRT has a 12.3-inch digital instrumentation panel and an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, along with Bluetooth, satellite radio, and Bluelink connected services.
- Fuel efficiency: The standard powertrain returned 24 mpg in official EPA testing, and the test vehicle averaged 22.3 mpg on a real-world loop.
Which 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe trim should I buy?
The 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe is offered in 5 trim levels: SE, SEL, XRT, Limited, Calligraphy.
Here's the short version:
- SE: This is the entry point if you want the Santa Fe’s core value proposition at the lowest price, but you should expect the fewest features and the least upscale feel. It makes sense if you want the basics and plan to keep costs down.
- SEL: This is the best-value trim because it builds on the SE with more equipment and serves as the foundation for the XRT’s added content. If you want the sweet spot between price and features, this is the one to target.
- XRT: Choose this only if you want the blacked-out styling and outdoor-themed appearance package. It adds visual changes more than real capability, so it is best for buyers who care about looks and standard equipment rather than substance.
- Limited: Move here if you want the stronger turbocharged engine and a more upscale experience. It is the better choice if you care more about performance and comfort than keeping the purchase price low.
- Calligraphy: This is the most premium version, aimed at buyers who want the most luxurious Santa Fe experience. It is the right pick if you want the top-end trim and are willing to pay for it.
Hyundai’s SmartSense safety suite is broadly available, but Highway Driving Assist is not available on the XRT trim level.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you compare listings carefully.
- Deal availability: 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 4,559 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.45% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 87.7% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $21,843.86, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe's resale value?
The current average of $21,835 sits slightly below last year's $24,114.
That price movement suggests the Santa Fe has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future resale stability if you buy at the right price. A softer market today can also mean less downside risk later, especially if you choose a well-equipped trim with broad appeal.
Strong value, useful technology, and a good ownership reputation can help keep demand steady when it is time to sell. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.85/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe safe?
The 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and five-star ratings in every NHTSA test except for a four-star rollover resistance score.
It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.
Hyundai SmartSense includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian and cyclist detection, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, and adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability. Safe Exit Assist is also standard, and the ultrasonic rear occupant alert system adds another layer of family-friendly protection.
One caveat is that Highway Driving Assist is not available on the XRT trim level. Even so, the Santa Fe’s standard driver-assistance setup is broad and well-rounded, and the one lower NHTSA rollover score is worth noting if safety is your top priority.
Should I buy a 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.45% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.85/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It adds an XRT trim and expands safety availability later in the year.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $20,109, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $21,835 average.
- It brings a major update with new styling, tech, and safety.
Consider the 2023 if:
- At $25,024, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $21,835 average.
- It carries over with minor changes and a small horsepower bump.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, safety, and equipment, the 2022 is the strongest all-around pick. If your priority is saving money, the 2021 is the better value play. If you want a newer model with only modest changes, the 2023 is fine, but you will pay more for it.
