How much does the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe cost?

Prices have softened 8.96% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 4,614 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.

Is the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe earns a 4.85/5 user rating and an 8.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Cost effectiveness and Safety.

Drivers consistently praise its excellent value, comfortable ride, and strong tech features. The roomy cabin and advanced safety equipment also come up often as reasons it feels easy to live with.

The main trade-offs are the underwhelming base engine and some noise from the turbo engine during driving. In practical terms, this is a smart pick if you want a roomy midsize SUV that emphasizes value and standard equipment rather than sporty performance.

The market also looks healthy, with 37.3% of listings marked as good or great deals.

Is the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe reliable?

Owners rate it 4.85/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Drivers describe it as dependable, comfortable, and well suited to everyday use, with repeated praise for its trouble-free feel and strong value over time. The expert evaluation also points to a refined, composed powertrain that behaves predictably in normal driving.

Hyundai’s ownership perks help, too, including a generous complimentary maintenance program and long warranty coverage. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that the base engine may feel strained if you regularly ask it to work hard.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because accident-free listings are strong but not universal. A pre-purchase inspection is worth prioritizing, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with more equipment. Focus on overall condition, signs of wear, and whether the features you want are actually present on the trim you’re shopping.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The XRT adds blacked-out exterior details, unique black alloy wheels, additional lower body cladding, fake front and rear skid plates, nearly useless running boards, and roof-rail crossbars that look like basket handles. It also includes the equipment from the SEL and that trim’s Convenience Package, but the base trim-level feature gap is worth checking carefully if you want more than the essentials.
• Powertrain: The standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder makes 191 horsepower and 181 pound-feet of torque, and it is described as adequate for normal commuting but not quick. If you want more power, the turbocharged 2.5-liter in higher trims produces 281 hp and 311 lb-ft of torque.
• Safety package: Hyundai SmartSense includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian and cyclist detection, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, and adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability. Highway Driving Assist is not available on the XRT trim level.
• Infotainment: The XRT has a 12.3-inch digital instrumentation panel and an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, along with Bluetooth, satellite radio, and Bluelink connected services.
• Fuel efficiency: The test vehicle averaged 22.3 mpg, and the official EPA fuel economy rating is 24 mpg.

Which 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe trim should I buy?

The 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe is offered in 5 trim levels: SE, SEL, XRT, Limited, Calligraphy.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the Santa Fe lineup and plan to prioritize value over extras.
• SEL: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the equipment foundation that the XRT builds on, making it the smarter everyday choice if you want more content without jumping to the pricier turbo trims.
• XRT: Choose this if you want the outdoor-themed styling and the added equipment from the SEL and Convenience Package, but the cosmetic changes are the main draw rather than a meaningful capability upgrade.
• Limited: This is the trim to target if you want the turbocharged 2.5-liter engine and a more upscale experience.
• Calligraphy: Pick this if you want the most luxurious version of the Santa Fe and are willing to pay for the top-end trim.

The XRT does not get Highway Driving Assist, so if that feature matters to you, verify the trim and equipment carefully before you buy.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully without rushing.

• Deal availability: 37.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 4,614 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.96% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 87.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $21,436, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe's resale value?

The current average of $21,436 sits slightly below last year's $23,546.

That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. If you plan to sell later, the current trend means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim choice.

Well-equipped examples with strong feature content should hold up better than bare-bones versions because shoppers in this segment respond to value and safety equipment. A clean history and desirable trim can help narrow the gap if the broader market stays soft.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.85/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe safe?

The 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and five-star ratings in every test performed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), with the exception of a four-star rollover resistance score.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Hyundai SmartSense brings forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian and cyclist detection, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, and adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability. Safe Exit Assist and an ultrasonic rear occupant alert system are also standard.

One caveat is that Highway Driving Assist is not available on the XRT trim level. Even so, the Santa Fe’s standard safety suite is broad and well executed.

Should I buy a 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 37.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.96% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.85/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds a new XRT trim and a plug-in hybrid version while keeping the Santa Fe’s strong value and safety focus.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $19,499, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $21,436 average.
• It offers a major update with new styling, controls, displays, engines, technology, and safety systems.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $24,523, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $21,436 average.
• It carries over nearly unchanged with minor equipment shuffling and a small horsepower bump.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of value, safety, and available inventory, the 2022 is the strongest all-around choice. If your budget is tighter, the 2021 can save you money while still delivering much of the same appeal. If you want a newer model-year carryover and don’t mind paying more, the 2023 is the straightforward alternative.
