CarGurus Analysis: 2022 Honda Passport
overall

Summary
With 1,788 currently listed for sale and an average price of $29,652, 30.6% of 2022 Honda Passports for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Honda Passport 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 6.33 / 10.
82.9% of 2022 Passport models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2022 Honda Passport stands out as a rugged-leaning two-row midsize SUV with a light restyle that gives it a fresher look. It is also the first Honda SUV to wear the TrailSport trim name, which is aimed at buyers who want a more outdoorsy feel. For 2022, Honda also added revised wheel designs, fresh paint colors, and new safety features.
Beyond the updates, the Passport’s appeal comes from its everyday strengths. It is fun to drive, comfortable, and offers plenty of cargo space. The tradeoffs are worth noting, though: its infotainment technology is outdated, its advanced safety features are unrefined, and it does not earn top safety ratings.

All the features are awesome! Plus, I got a great deal on this vehicle! Nothing is missing from the SUV. This SUV is very similar to the Honda Pilot except for the third-row seating.

We love the Honda Passport for the amount of room inside & all the safety features it came with. I thought it was very comparible in price to the Ford Edge.

Reviewed a 2022 Honda TrailSport AWD on Nov 4, 2022
I had narrowed my search to 3 manufacturers and test drove one from each . Actually I drove two at Honda. The EXL and the Trail Sport. IMO there was definitely a different feel to the two trims. This is due to the wheel size I would imagine. The other models were the Mazda CX-5 and the Toyota Highlander. The Honda passport just has a heavier sturdier feel, more like a truck. Almost forgot, I also drove a loaner Subaru Ascent for a week. It was a nice vehicle. But still preferred the Passport. It just has a much sturdier feel to it. I am still learning all the accessories. This vehicle is impressively equipped. I can’t think of anything else I could want as far as features and accessories. Love my new SUV!

The trade-offs are that the infotainment system is outdated and the advanced safety tech is less refined than many rivals. The expert notes also point to a few rough edges in the driver-assist experience.
Good and great deals account for 31.6% of listings, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2022 Honda Passport reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The Passport’s appeal comes from its robust drivetrain, roomy and comfortable cabin, and generous standard equipment. The expert assessment also describes it as an undeniably appealing SUV with simple utility, which supports the idea that it should hold up well as a practical used buy.
Its performance setup is straightforward and proven: a 3.5-liter V6, a nine-speed automatic, and available all-wheel drive. That kind of conventional hardware usually makes ownership easier to understand and live with.
If you want a used Passport, the main long-term ownership risk is that its aging platform and less polished tech may feel dated sooner than the rest of the SUV.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Honda Passport?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 83.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the vehicle history report carefully, even when the market looks clean. A pre-purchase inspection should focus on the brakes, the condition of the driver-assist systems, and whether the infotainment and camera functions work as expected. It also makes sense to pay close attention to trim-specific equipment so you know exactly what you’re getting.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base EX-L gives you leather seats and a strong standard equipment list, while TrailSport adds a more outdoorsy look with unique wheels, a roof rack, simulated skid plates, orange contrast stitching, amber ambient lighting, embroidered headrest emblems, and rubber all-season floor mats. Elite sits above it with the most upscale equipment.
- Powertrain: You get a 3.5-liter V6 with 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque, paired with a nine-speed automatic. Front-wheel drive is limited to the EX-L, while TrailSport and Elite come standard with all-wheel drive.
- Safety package: Honda Sensing includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and lane-centering assist. The Passport also includes blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high-beam headlights, a rear-seat reminder, and a seatbelt reminder system.
- Infotainment: Every trim gets an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and satellite radio. TrailSport adds navigation, while Elite adds a 10-speaker premium sound system and HondaLink connected services with WiFi hotspot access.
- Fuel efficiency: The EPA rates it at 22 mpg combined with front-wheel drive and 21 mpg combined with all-wheel drive. In testing, the TrailSport returned 21.3 mpg.
Which 2022 Honda Passport trim should I buy?
The 2022 Honda Passport is offered in 3 trim levels: EX-L, TrailSport, and Elite.
Here's the short version:
- EX-L: This is the best-value starting point if you want the Passport’s core strengths without paying for extras you may not need. It brings leather seats and the standard infotainment and safety equipment, and it is the only trim with front-wheel drive.
- TrailSport: This is the trim to choose if you want the Passport’s outdoorsy personality. It adds the TrailSport look, standard all-wheel drive, navigation, and unique interior touches, making it the most distinctive middle-ground choice.
- Elite: Choose this if you want the most upscale Passport experience, including the premium sound system and HondaLink connected services with WiFi hotspot access.
Honda Sensing is standard across the lineup, so you do not need to move up a trim to get the core driver-assistance suite.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Honda Passport?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay patient.
- Deal availability: 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,833 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.96% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 83.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $29,602, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Honda Passport's resale value?
The current average of $29,634 sits slightly below last year's $31,851.
That softer pricing trend suggests the Passport has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future resale stability if you buy at the right price. For a seller, that means your best outcome will likely come from buying near the lower end of the range and keeping the vehicle in clean condition.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Honda Passport safe?
The 2022 Honda Passport earns five-star ratings in all but front passenger protection in a frontal-impact collision, which earns four stars, and it also gets a four-star rating for rollover resistance from NHTSA. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gives it top ratings in most respects, but it earns an Acceptable rating for front-passenger protection in a small overlap collision.
It earns a 4/10 safety score from our experts.
Honda Sensing is the standard driver-assistance suite, and it includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high-beam headlights, a rear-seat reminder, and a seatbelt reminder system.
The main caveat is that the lane-departure warning and lane-centering assist are described as unrefined, and the adaptive cruise control can feel abrupt in heavier traffic. The Passport also falls short of the very best crash-test results.
Should I buy a 2022 Honda Passport or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 83.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.96% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It adds the new TrailSport trim and revised safety features for the model year.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $24,623, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $29,634 average.
- It bridges outdoor adventure and daily life with comfort and capability.
The 2022 is the better pick if you want the updated styling, TrailSport trim, and newer safety content. If your priority is saving money and you can live without the 2022 updates, the 2021 is the value play.
