Why it stands out
The 2022 Honda Civic sedan stands out because it was reworked, rethought, and redesigned to keep the Civic name at the top of the compact-car market. Honda also says 75 percent of Civic owners return in the future to buy another one of the company’s vehicles, which helps explain why this redesign mattered so much to the brand. In practice, the result is a car that was praised for getting the engineering and technology right with few exceptions, making it one of the strongest compact cars in its class.
What makes the 2022 Honda Civic sedan especially appealing is the way it balances driving enjoyment with everyday usefulness. It was singled out for great handling, plenty of cargo space, and impressive technology, all of which are core strengths for buyers shopping this segment. At the same time, it is not perfect: the base stereo was called lacking, and value for money was identified as a weak point. Owner feedback generally reinforces the car’s appeal, with praise for its technology, comfort, driving performance, smooth ride, and fuel economy, while also noting some missing features and a trunk closure nuisance.

I think this car offers a lot of value for the money. It comes with a strong set of features that make it comfortable, practical, and enjoyable to drive. The design looks modern, and it has many of the technology and safety features that most drivers are looking for today. One of the biggest strengths of this car is its balance between performance, comfort, and affordability. It feels like you get a lot without having to move into a much higher price range. While no vehicle is perfect, this car does a great job meeting the needs of most drivers. The overall package is competitive and well-rounded, making it a smart choice for someone looking for reliability, style, and everyday usability. Compared with other vehicles in its class, this car stands out as a strong contender and is definitely worth considering. It offers an attractive combination of features, value, and driving experience that makes it easy to recommend.

Car was super clean, better than what the pictures showed. Features are good and it was very low mileage. If I have to add something to the car, it would be the back up sensors and blind spot sensors. Other than that it was a great purchase

How much does the 2022 Honda Civic cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $22,540 |
| Year-Round Low | $21,780.10 |
| Year-Round High | $23,423.71 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $23,426 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −3.78% |
Prices have softened 3.78% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 2,974 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing prices and trims.
If you find a listing below $21,780.10, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2022 Honda Civic a good car?
Yes — the 2022 Honda Civic earns a 4.94/5 user rating and a 7.67/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Performance.
Owners consistently praise its technology, comfort, driving performance, smooth ride, and fuel economy. The redesign also gets credit for balancing everyday usefulness with driving enjoyment, and the car’s handling and cargo space stand out in the segment.
The main trade-offs are a lacking base stereo and weaker value for money. That matters most if you want the most equipment for your budget, especially since the Civic’s appeal is strongest when you prioritize refinement, tech, and driving feel over bargain pricing.
For you, that means the Civic makes the most sense if you want a compact sedan that feels polished, practical, and genuinely enjoyable to drive. 30.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there are still worthwhile opportunities in the market.
Is the 2022 Honda Civic reliable?
Owners rate it 4.94/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owners also describe the Civic as dependable in the way it blends technology, comfort, and driving performance, with many highlighting its smooth ride and impressive fuel economy. That kind of feedback points to a car people feel good about living with day after day.
The driving experience is described as predictable and trust-inspiring, which supports the sense that it should be easy to count on over time. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about day-to-day satisfaction and more about making sure the specific car you choose has been cared for properly.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Honda Civic?
At 74.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of body panels, paint consistency, and signs of prior repair. It also makes sense to focus on how the car’s technology, stereo, and trunk operate, since those are the areas owners and testers most often call out.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The LX and Sport are the most basic versions, and they miss the proper blind-spot warning system that appears on the EX and above. The Touring adds the most upscale cabin and tech features, while the Sport trim gets a more engaging setup than LX but still lacks the safety upgrade found on EX.
- Powertrain: LX and Sport use a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 158 horsepower and 138 lb-ft of torque, while EX and Touring use a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder with 180 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque. Both pair with a CVT, and the turbo engine is the stronger all-around choice.
- Safety package: Honda Sensing includes Traffic Jam Assist, Level 2 adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and Lane Keeping Assist. The EX adds proper blind-spot warning on both sides, and the Touring adds rear cross-traffic alert.
- Infotainment: The standard setup uses a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Touring upgrades to a 9-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, wireless smartphone charging, HD radio, satellite radio, and navigation.
- Fuel efficiency: The Touring returned 30.4 mpg on a 95-mile driving loop, versus an EPA estimate of 34 mpg.
Which 2022 Honda Civic trim should I buy?
The 2022 Honda Civic is offered in 4 trim levels: LX, Sport, EX, and Touring.
Here's the short version:
- LX: This is the entry point, but it’s the least appealing if you care about safety and everyday convenience. It gets the basics, yet it lacks blind-spot warning and has the weakest stereo setup.
- Sport: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a more engaging feel and still keeps pricing below the upper trims. Just know that it still misses the blind-spot warning system.
- EX: This is the trim to target if you want the smartest balance of equipment and safety. It adds the proper blind-spot warning system on both sides, plus the stronger turbocharged engine.
- Touring: This is the most fully equipped version, with the 9-inch touchscreen, wireless smartphone features, premium audio, and rear cross-traffic alert. It’s the right pick if you want the most upscale Civic experience.
For safety, the EX is the better choice for younger or less experienced drivers because it adds the blind-spot warning system that the LX and Sport do not get.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Honda Civic?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and deal activity to reward careful shopping.
- Deal availability: 30.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,974 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.78% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 74.2% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $21,780.10, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Honda Civic's resale value?
The current average of $22,540 sits slightly below last year's $23,426.
That softer pricing suggests the Civic is still in demand, but buyers have a bit more leverage than they did a year ago. If you buy well now, you may have a better chance of limiting depreciation compared with paying closer to the top of the range.
The Civic’s strong reputation for satisfaction and broad appeal should help support future resale demand. Well-equipped trims with the right features are likely to hold interest better than stripped-down versions.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.94/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Honda Civic safe?
The 2022 Honda Civic earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.
Honda Sensing is the standard driver-assistance suite, and it includes Traffic Jam Assist, Level 2 adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and Lane Keeping Assist. The system is described as smoother, more accurate, and more refined than before, thanks to a wide-view front camera and eight ultrasonic sonar sensors.
The Civic also adds a proper blind-spot warning system with rear cross-traffic alert on higher trims, replacing the old LaneWatch setup. The main safety gap is that the LX and Sport do not get blind-spot warning, which makes the EX the better pick if safety tech matters most to you.
Should I buy a 2022 Honda Civic or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 30.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 74.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.78% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.94/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- Honda says the redesign was a major success, with strong engineering and technology and few exceptions.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $19,349, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $22,540 average.
- It’s the outgoing generation, so you may find appealing financing or lease-style value in the older model.
The bottom line: If you want the better-rounded Civic, the 2022 is the stronger choice because it brings the redesign, better tech, and improved safety features. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2021 can still make sense, especially if you’re comfortable giving up the newer cabin and updated equipment.
