Honda will overhaul the CR-V for 2023 and has left the vehicle alone for 2022. Several trims are available, including LX, EX, EX-L, EX Hybrid, EX-L Hybrid, Touring, and Touring Hybrid. Combined output lands at 201 horsepower, and Honda gave it plentiful sound insulation, making it a quiet and relaxing vehicle for running errands around town. Cloth upholstery is standard, but top trims get leather and feel surprisingly upscale inside. Honda nixed the physical gear shift lever in this generation of CR-V, opting instead for a push-button shift system set below the infotainment display. Some variants get synthetic wood trim and other upscale materials, but the CR-V’s cabin clearly prioritizes ergonomics and usability over glamor and flash. The entry-level LX trim gets a 5.0-inch display that lacks the most desirable features, but most trims come with a 7-inch touchscreen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come with the larger unit, along with Bluetooth, SiriusXM radio, and more. Honda also offers navigation and an upgraded stereo. While the revival of a physical volume knob is a welcome change, Honda’s infotainment software leaves much to be desired: The system is clunky at times and requires too much interaction to accomplish simple tasks or change a setting. The 2022 Honda CR-V earned a Top Safety Pick designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The SUV picked up “Good” scores in most crash test categories, except for the IIHS’s updated side crash test, where it earned an “Acceptable” rating. The CR-V’s headlights earned varying scores, depending on the trim and configuration, and front crash-prevention systems were rated “Superior.” Seat belt reminders earned the worst score, with a “Poor” rating, and LATCH system ease of use got an “Acceptable” rating. Every 2022 CR-V comes with a lane-keeping system, adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, automatic high beams, automatic emergency braking, and forward-collision warnings. Honda also offers blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts. Pricing for the 2022 Honda CR-V starts at around $28,000 for the base LX model. The mid-range EX-L trim starts at $33,145, and the top Touring Hybrid starts at $39,045. Honda keeps its options and packages offerings simple. For the CR-V, that means a few accessories packages and upgrades are available, but Honda does not offer extensive standalone options like American automakers typically do.
