CarGurus Analysis: 2022 GMC Yukon
overall

Summary
With 209 currently listed for sale and an average price of $49,604, 18.7% of 2022 GMC Yukon listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 GMC Yukon 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.5 / 10.
93.8% of 2022 GMC Yukon listings on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2022 GMC Yukon stands out as a full-size SUV that blends style and capability, which helps explain why it remains a popular choice in its class. GMC’s broader identity also gives the Yukon a distinctive place in the lineup, since the brand aims for a premium, “Professional Grade” feel that sits between Chevrolet and Cadillac. For buyers who want a large SUV with a more upscale presentation than a basic utility vehicle, that positioning is a major part of its appeal.
For 2022, the Yukon gets a standard 12-inch driver information center and enhanced connectivity, adding to the appeal of a model that was redesigned for the 2021 model year. It is also offered in four trim levels: SLE, SLT, AT4, and Denali. The Yukon’s strengths include multiple powertrain options, a powerful engine, and plenty of cargo space, but it is also held back by poor fuel economy and poor value for money.

Very nice ride. The only thing to improve would be the fuel efficiency of the 5.3L gas engine.

The diesel is good value, the gas models not so much. I love these things! Much better space in the trunk and in general than the expedition and that’s coming from a ford guy. The seats fold in a more logical fashion and it’s more family friendly. The seats in the expedition are so hard I had to look at tahoes and Yukons instead. They’re currently vastly superior!

Prices have softened 12.22% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 3,732 listings available, which suggests you have a meaningful amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2022 GMC Yukon a good car?
Yes — the 2022 GMC Yukon earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, Technology, and Safety.
It fits you well if you want a full-size SUV with a more upscale presentation than a basic utility vehicle, plus a spacious cabin and strong capability. The Yukon’s strengths include multiple powertrain options, a powerful engine, and plenty of cargo space.
The trade-offs are clear: poor fuel economy and poor value for money.
There are 37.1% good or great deals in the market, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2022 GMC Yukon reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The Yukon’s redesign brought meaningful gains in space, ride quality, and technology, and the available adaptive air suspension helps improve comfort and handling. The available diesel also adds a long-range, torque-rich option that broadens the SUV’s appeal.
The diesel powertrain is described as delivering excellent fuel economy, and GM backs it with a five-year, 100,000-mile powertrain warranty.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a large, complex SUV can be expensive to keep in top shape, so condition and maintenance history matter a lot.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 GMC Yukon?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper history review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on higher-mileage examples or trucks with towing and off-road use. Focus on tire wear, brake condition, suspension behavior, and signs that the cabin and electronics have been heavily used.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base SLE already has a premium look, but it uses cloth seats, while the other trims move to perforated leather. The AT4 adds unique off-road styling with a dark grille, skid plate, and red recovery hooks, while the Denali brings the most upscale appearance with extensive chrome, unique interior designs, and standard second-row captain’s chairs.
- Powertrain: You get three engine choices: a 5.3-liter V8, a 6.2-liter V8, and a 3.0-liter turbodiesel four-cylinder. The diesel stands out for excellent fuel economy and long range, while the V8s emphasize power and towing.
- Safety package: GMC Pro Safety is standard and includes automatic emergency braking with front pedestrian detection, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, following distance indicator, and automatic high-beam headlights. GMC Pro Safety Plus is available on SLE and standard on SLT and above, adding lane-change alert with blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear park assist.
- Infotainment: The Yukon has a 10.2-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Google Built-In, and wireless phone charging on all but the SLE. It also has a standard 12-inch driver information center, and AT4 and Denali models get three years of connected services.
- Fuel efficiency: EPA combined fuel economy is 16-17 mpg with the V8 engines and 22-23 mpg with the diesel. The diesel is the better choice if you care about range and efficiency.
Which 2022 GMC Yukon trim should I buy?
The 2022 GMC Yukon is offered in 4 trim levels: SLE, SLT, AT4, and Denali.
Here's the short version:
- SLE: This is the entry point, but it still gives you the Yukon’s premium look and the core tech and safety suite. It makes sense if you want the lowest starting price and can live without leather, extra convenience features, and the more upscale cabin treatments found higher up.
- SLT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a more upscale feel and unlocks more equipment without jumping all the way to the luxury-focused Denali. It also gets GMC Pro Safety Plus standard, which adds blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear park assist.
- AT4: Choose this if you want the off-road-oriented look and hardware, including the dark grille, skid plate, red recovery hooks, and standard 4WD. It also gets heated and cooled front seats and a two-speed transfer case.
- Denali: This is the luxury pick, with the most distinctive chrome-heavy styling, standard second-row captain’s chairs, unique interior designs, and the most premium presentation overall. It also gets the 6.2-liter V8 standard.
GMC Pro Safety is standard across the lineup, while Pro Safety Plus is standard on SLT and above and available on SLE.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 GMC Yukon?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you compare listings carefully.
- Deal availability: 37.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 3,732 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.22% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 84.2% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $46,293, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 GMC Yukon's resale value?
The current average of $46,293 sits slightly below last year's $52,735.
That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a better entry point today. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on trim, condition, and equipment rather than just age alone.
Well-equipped examples with desirable features and clean history should hold up better than neglected trucks with visible wear. The diesel and higher trims may also appeal to a narrower but more committed buyer pool.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 GMC Yukon safe?
The 2022 GMC Yukon earns four-star ratings in front crash protection and rollover resistance, and five-star ratings in side crash protection from NHTSA.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Every 2022 Yukon comes with GMC Pro Safety, which includes automatic emergency braking with front pedestrian detection, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, following distance indicator, and automatic high-beam headlights. GMC Pro Safety Plus is available on SLE and standard on SLT and above, adding lane-change alert with blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear park assist.
The main caveat is that the SUV’s rollover rating is lower than its side-impact result, so you should pay attention to how you load and drive a vehicle this size.
Should I buy a 2022 GMC Yukon or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 37.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.22% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It adds a standard 12-inch driver information center and enhanced connectivity.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $41,320, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $46,293 average.
- It brings a bigger cabin and better ride quality.
The bottom line: If you want the stronger value proposition in today’s market, the 2022 is the better all-around pick because it combines a lower average price than last year with solid inventory and strong satisfaction. If your priority is spending less upfront, the 2021 is the smarter budget alternative, especially if you can find one in good condition with the features you want.
