CarGurus Analysis: 2022 GMC Yukon
overall

Summary
With 315 currently listed for sale near Memphis, TN and an average price of $44,705.00, 47.0% of 2022 GMC Yukons for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 GMC Yukon 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.5 / 10.
90.5% of 2022 Yukon models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2022 GMC Yukon stands out as a full-size SUV that blends style with capability, and it does so with the kind of premium touches GMC uses to separate itself from more mainstream truck-based rivals. For 2022, it gains a standard 12-inch driver information center and enhanced connectivity, adding to the appeal of a vehicle that already offers a distinctive mix of utility and upscale design. It is also available in four trim levels: SLE, SLT, AT4, and Denali.
What makes the 2022 Yukon especially appealing is its breadth of strengths. It offers multiple powertrain options, a powerful engine, and plenty of cargo space, which should matter to buyers who want a large SUV that can handle family duty and hauling with confidence. The tradeoffs are worth noting, though: poor fuel economy and poor value for money are part of the package, so the Yukon’s appeal is strongest for shoppers who prioritize capability, space, and a more premium feel over efficiency and bargain pricing.

Very nice ride. The only thing to improve would be the fuel efficiency of the 5.3L gas engine.

The diesel is good value, the gas models not so much. I love these things! Much better space in the trunk and in general than the expedition and that’s coming from a ford guy. The seats fold in a more logical fashion and it’s more family friendly. The seats in the expedition are so hard I had to look at tahoes and Yukons instead. They’re currently vastly superior!

2022 GMC Yukon Price Trends
CarGurus tracks the prices of millions of used car listings every year. See how the average price of 2022 GMC Yukon prices has changed over time.
See more price trendsHow much does the 2022 GMC Yukon cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $47,961 |
| Year-Round Low | $47,983.24 |
| Year-Round High | $54,415.87 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $54,414 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −11.86% |
Prices have softened 11.86% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 3,391 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.
If you find a listing below $47,983.24, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2022 GMC Yukon a good car?
Yes — the 2022 GMC Yukon earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, Technology, and Safety.
The Yukon’s appeal is strongest if you want a full-size SUV with a premium feel, lots of interior space, and real hauling capability. The overview points to multiple powertrain options, a powerful engine, and plenty of cargo room, while the expert notes reinforce its upscale design and broad utility.
The trade-offs are clear: poor fuel economy and poor value for money are part of the package. That means you should view it as a capability-first family SUV rather than a budget-minded choice.
33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there are some attractive opportunities if you shop carefully.
Is the 2022 GMC Yukon reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The Yukon’s redesign brought meaningful gains in space, ride quality, and technology, and the expert notes describe a smooth, quiet ride over most surfaces. The available diesel also comes with a five-year, 100,000-mile powertrain warranty, which adds reassurance if you choose that engine.
The performance notes also point to strong capability and a composed highway demeanor, which are good signs for day-to-day durability. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that a large, feature-rich SUV can become expensive to run if maintenance, fuel, and repair needs stack up.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 GMC Yukon?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper history review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on suspension behavior, brake condition, and how the electronics and driver aids operate. You should also pay close attention to cabin wear, since this is a large family SUV that may have seen heavy daily use.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base SLE has cloth seats, while other trims get perforated leather; the SLE also misses some of the richer equipment found higher up the range.
- Powertrain: You can choose from a 5.3-liter V8, a 6.2-liter V8, or a 3.0-liter turbodiesel four-cylinder; the diesel stands out for excellent fuel economy and long range.
- Safety package: GMC Pro Safety is standard and includes automatic emergency braking with front pedestrian detection, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, following distance indicator, and automatic high-beam headlights. GMC Pro Safety Plus adds lane-change alert with blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear park assist, and it is available on SLE and standard on SLT and above.
- Infotainment: The Yukon has a 10.2-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Google Built-In, and wireless phone charging on all but the SLE.
- Fuel efficiency: The V8 models return 16-17 mpg combined, while diesel versions average 22-23 mpg combined.
Which 2022 GMC Yukon trim should I buy?
The 2022 GMC Yukon is offered in 4 trim levels: SLE, SLT, AT4, and Denali.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The SLE gives you the Yukon’s core space and capability, but it starts with cloth seats and misses some of the richer comfort and convenience features found higher up.
- Sweet-spot trim: The SLT is the best value if you want a more upscale feel, since it adds perforated leather and gets GMC Pro Safety Plus standard.
- Premium/top trim: The Denali is the luxury pick, with the most distinctive styling, standard heated and cooled front seats, standard second-row captain’s chairs, and exclusive interior designs.
- Off-road trim: The AT4 is the one to choose if you want the rugged look and hardware, but its off-road focus makes it less of a default daily-driver choice than the SLT or Denali.
GMC Pro Safety Plus is available on SLE and standard on SLT and above.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 GMC Yukon?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it rewards patience and comparison shopping.
- Deal availability: 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 3,391 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 11.86% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 84.9% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $47,983.24, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 GMC Yukon's resale value?
The current average of $47,961 sits slightly below last year's $54,414.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help future resale if you buy at the right price today. If you pay close to the current average or better, you reduce the risk of taking a bigger depreciation hit later. Strong demand for well-equipped full-size SUVs can still support values, especially for cleaner examples with desirable features.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 GMC Yukon safe?
The 2022 GMC Yukon earns four-star ratings in frontal crash and rollover, and five-star ratings in side crash from NHTSA.
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Every 2022 Yukon comes with GMC Pro Safety, which includes automatic emergency braking with front pedestrian detection, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, following distance indicator, and automatic high-beam headlights. GMC Pro Safety Plus adds lane-change alert with blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear park assist, and it is available on SLE and standard on SLT and above.
The Yukon’s safety systems are broad and useful, but the four-star frontal and rollover results are worth keeping in mind if safety is a top priority.
Should I buy a 2022 GMC Yukon or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 11.86% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2022 adds a standard 12-inch driver information center and enhanced connectivity.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $42,841, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $47,961 average.
- It delivers a redesigned cabin with more space and a smoother ride.
The bottom line: If you want the newer model-year updates and a broader set of current-market opportunities, the 2022 is the better all-around target. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2021 is the smarter value play, especially if you can find one in strong condition with the equipment you want.
