CarGurus Analysis: 2022 GMC Yukon
overall

Summary
With 3,457 currently listed for sale and an average price of $47,473, 34.6% of 2022 GMC Yukons for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 GMC Yukon 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.5 / 10.
84.4% of 2022 Yukon models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2022 GMC Yukon stands out as a full-size SUV that blends style and capability with GMC’s premium-leaning “Professional Grade” approach. It sits in a unique spot in the brand’s lineup, aiming between Chevrolet and Cadillac with distinctive exterior and interior design, enhanced capabilities, and a more upscale feel than a basic utility vehicle.
For 2022, the Yukon adds a standard 12-inch driver information center and enhanced connectivity, building on its redesign for the 2021 model year. It also offers multiple powertrain options, including a powerful engine, and it provides plenty of cargo space, which helps make it appealing to buyers who want a large SUV that can handle family duties and hauling needs. The tradeoffs are familiar for this class: poor fuel economy and poor value for money.

Very nice ride. The only thing to improve would be the fuel efficiency of the 5.3L gas engine.

The diesel is good value, the gas models not so much. I love these things! Much better space in the trunk and in general than the expedition and that’s coming from a ford guy. The seats fold in a more logical fashion and it’s more family friendly. The seats in the expedition are so hard I had to look at tahoes and Yukons instead. They’re currently vastly superior!

How much does the 2022 GMC Yukon cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $47,322 |
| Year-Round Low | $47,322 |
| Year-Round High | $54,120 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $54,114 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −12.55% |
Prices have softened 12.55% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 3,450 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2022 GMC Yukon a good car?
Yes — the 2022 GMC Yukon earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, Technology, and Safety.
It fits you well if you want a full-size SUV with a premium-leaning design, strong capability, and plenty of cargo space. The trade-offs are clear: the expert review calls out poor fuel economy and poor value for money, so you should shop it with your priorities in mind.
The market shows 34.0% of listings as good or great deals, which suggests there are worthwhile opportunities if you compare carefully.
Is the 2022 GMC Yukon reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The Yukon’s redesign brings meaningful space and technology gains, and the expert review also points to a smooth, quiet ride over most surfaces. Its available diesel adds a long-range efficiency angle, and GM backs that engine with a five-year, 100,000-mile powertrain warranty.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure the specific vehicle you choose has been maintained well and matches the equipment you expect.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 GMC Yukon?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a vehicle-by-vehicle review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on higher-mileage examples or trucks with towing use. Focus on condition, equipment operation, and whether the trim level matches the features you want.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base SLE already has a premium look, but it uses cloth seats, while other trims get perforated leather. The SLT and AT4 can add second-row captain’s chairs, and the Denali stands out with standard captain’s chairs and unique interior designs.
- Powertrain: You can choose among a 5.3-liter V8, a 6.2-liter V8, and a 3.0-liter turbodiesel four-cylinder. The diesel is the efficiency play, while the 6.2-liter V8 is the strongest gas engine.
- Safety package: GMC Pro Safety is standard and includes automatic emergency braking with front pedestrian detection, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, following distance indicator, and automatic high-beam headlights. GMC Pro Safety Plus is available on SLE and standard on SLT and above, adding lane-change alert with blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear park assist.
- Infotainment: The Yukon has a 10.2-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Google Built-In, and wireless phone charging on all but the SLE. It also offers a 12-inch driver information center and an available WiFi hotspot.
- Fuel efficiency: EPA combined fuel economy is 16-17 mpg with the V8 engines and 22-23 mpg with the diesel. The diesel is the better choice if you care about range and lower fuel stops.
Which 2022 GMC Yukon trim should I buy?
The 2022 GMC Yukon is offered in 4 trim levels: SLE, SLT, AT4, and Denali.
Here's the short version:
- SLE: This is the entry point, and it already gives you the Yukon’s upscale look, standard seating for eight, and the core safety suite. It makes sense if you want the lowest starting price and can live without the extra comfort and convenience features on higher trims.
- SLT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a more upscale feel with perforated leather and can be equipped with second-row captain’s chairs. It also unlocks more of the Yukon’s comfort and convenience appeal without jumping all the way to luxury pricing.
- AT4: Choose this if you want the more rugged-looking version with unique front styling, a skid plate, and red recovery hooks. It also gets heated and cooled front seats and is the only trim that comes standard with 4WD.
- Denali: This is the luxury pick, with the most distinctive interior treatment, standard captain’s chairs, and the strongest available gas engine. It suits you best if you want the most premium Yukon experience and are willing to pay for it.
GMC Pro Safety Plus is available on SLE and standard on SLT and above.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 GMC Yukon?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it pays to compare listings closely.
- Deal availability: 34.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 3,450 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.55% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 84.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $47,322, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 GMC Yukon's resale value?
The current average of $47,322 sits slightly below last year's $54,114.
That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can help you buy more affordably now. For a future seller, that also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim desirability. Well-equipped examples with the right powertrain and clean history should hold up better than plain or heavily used ones.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 GMC Yukon safe?
The 2022 GMC Yukon earns four-star ratings in front crash protection and rollover resistance, and five-star ratings in side crash protection from NHTSA.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Every 2022 Yukon comes with GMC Pro Safety, which includes automatic emergency braking with front pedestrian detection, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, following distance indicator, and automatic high-beam headlights. GMC Pro Safety Plus is available on SLE and standard on SLT and above, adding lane-change alert with blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear park assist.
Should I buy a 2022 GMC Yukon or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 34.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.55% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It adds a standard 12-inch driver information center and enhanced connectivity.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $42,314, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $47,322 average.
- It delivers meaningful gains in space, ride quality, and technology.
The bottom line: If you want the better-equipped and more current shopping target, the 2022 is the stronger pick. If your priority is saving money upfront, the 2021 is the smarter value play, especially if you can find one in excellent condition with the features you want.
