How much does the 2022 GMC Terrain cost?

Prices have softened 9.25% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,066 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2022 GMC Terrain a good car?

Yes — you’re looking at a 4.8/5 user-rated SUV with an expert score of 6.7/10. The standout strength is Form and function at 9/10.

Drivers consistently praise the comfort and smooth driving experience, and they also value the safety features and confident behavior in snowy conditions. The user feedback also points to dependable everyday use and a trouble-free ownership experience for many shoppers.

The expert review adds that the Terrain is comfortable and easy to live with, with wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto among its strengths. The trade-offs are sluggish performance and interior materials that feel cheap, so it fits you best if you prioritize comfort and simple tech over speed or cabin polish.

With 35.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2022 GMC Terrain reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback highlights a dependable, trouble-free feel for everyday driving, along with confidence in snowy conditions and a sense that the vehicle holds up well over time. The expert review also describes the Terrain as comfortable and smooth, which supports the impression that it’s easy to live with day to day.

The Terrain’s ownership risk for used buyers is more about choosing a well-kept example than worrying about a broad reliability red flag.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 GMC Terrain?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with optional equipment. Focus on overall condition, signs of prior damage, and whether the features you want are actually present on the trim you’re shopping.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SLE and SLT are more affordable and come with standard front-wheel drive, while AWD is optional. The AT4 adds a bolder grille, black 17-inch alloy wheels with sport-terrain tires, and a steel skid plate, but the review makes clear that its rugged image outpaces its real off-pavement ability. The Denali adds a layer of luxury.
• Powertrain: Every 2022 Terrain uses a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder with 170 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque, paired with a nine-speed automatic. The engine is adequate, but it is not especially quick, and the review notes a delay off the line before the torque comes on.
• Safety package: Every Terrain includes GMC Pro Safety with forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, automatic high-beam headlights, and a following distance indicator. GMC Pro Safety Plus is available on SLE, SLT, and AT4, and standard on Denali; it adds adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-change assist, rear parking sensors, and a Safety Alert Seat. A lane-centering function is not available.
• Infotainment: SLE gets a 7-inch touchscreen, while SLT, AT4, and Denali get an 8-inch screen. Both systems include Bluetooth, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, SiriusXM, and OnStar-connected services with Wi-Fi hotspot access. With the larger screen, connected navigation and a Bose premium sound system are available.
• Fuel efficiency: The official EPA rating is 26 mpg, and the review recorded 26.2 mpg on its evaluation loop.

Which 2022 GMC Terrain trim should I buy?

The 2022 GMC Terrain is offered in 4 trim levels: SLE, SLT, AT4, Denali.

Here's the short version:

• SLE: This is the value-oriented starting point, and it gives you the standard 7-inch touchscreen plus wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and the full base safety suite. If you want the Terrain’s core comfort and tech without paying for extras, this is the trim to start with.
• SLT: This trim steps up to the larger 8-inch touchscreen and adds a more upscale feel without jumping all the way to luxury pricing. It’s the best-value choice if you want a better tech experience and more available equipment.
• AT4: This is the rugged-looking trim with standard AWD, sport-terrain tires, and a steel skid plate. It suits you if you want the tougher appearance and extra traction, but the review makes clear that its off-road image is stronger than its actual capability.
• Denali: This is the luxury-leaning choice, and it comes standard with the more advanced safety package. Pick it if you want the most premium version of the Terrain.

The standard safety package is on every trim, while the expanded safety package becomes standard on Denali and optional on SLE, SLT, and AT4.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 GMC Terrain?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 35.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,066 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.25% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 82.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $21,088, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 GMC Terrain's resale value?

The current average of $21,088 sits slightly below last year's $23,238.

That softer pricing suggests the Terrain has already moved through a meaningful portion of its depreciation curve, which can help you if you buy at the right price. For a future seller, the current market indicates that value is being held more by condition, equipment, and trim choice than by broad demand strength alone.

If you keep the vehicle in clean condition and choose a desirable trim, you’re more likely to protect value than if you buy a poorly equipped or heavily worn example. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 GMC Terrain safe?

The 2022 GMC Terrain earns mostly “Good” crash-test scores from IIHS, but it also receives a “Marginal” rating in a new side-impact test.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Every Terrain includes GMC Pro Safety with forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, automatic high-beam headlights, and a following distance indicator. GMC Pro Safety Plus is available on SLE, SLT, and AT4, and standard on Denali; it adds adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-change assist, rear parking sensors, and a Safety Alert Seat.

The main caveat is that lane-centering is not available, and the IIHS side-impact result is weaker than the rest of the crash-test picture.

Should I buy a 2022 GMC Terrain or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

• 35.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.25% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 model year stands out for adding the new AT4 trim, which gives the Terrain a more rugged look and standard AWD.

The 2022 makes sense if you want the updated trim lineup and a market that gives you some negotiating room. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you may also want to compare nearby years for a lower entry cost, but the 2022 is the better pick when you want the AT4’s added presence and the current year’s softened pricing.
