How much does the 2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD cost?

Prices have softened 9.92% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,017 listings available, which gives you a meaningful pool of trucks to compare.

Is the 2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD a good car?

Generally — the 2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD earns 4.4/5 from owners and 7.7/10 from experts. The standout strength is Form and function at 9/10.

Drivers repeatedly praise its smooth, powerful ride, strong feature content, and comfort, and many also point to the value they found with the Black Diamond Package. The overview also shows why it appeals to you if you want a heavy-duty truck that can handle demanding jobs while still feeling more versatile for everyday use.

The trade-offs are clear: the interior is not as nice as competitors’, and it gives up some towing and hauling capability to key rivals. Even so, the market still shows 30.3% of listings as good or great deals, which suggests there are still attractive opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD reliable?

Owners rate it 4.4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a truck that feels smooth, powerful, and comfortable over time, and it also highlights the value many buyers saw in the Black Diamond Package. That combination suggests you can count on it to deliver the kind of everyday satisfaction heavy-duty shoppers want.

The expert evaluation also describes strong powertrains and an Allison 10-speed automatic that works especially well with the diesel setup. GMC also pays for your first scheduled maintenance visit, which helps early ownership costs.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that quality issues from a specific truck’s history can outweigh the model’s strengths, so a careful inspection matters.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 81.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.

Start with a vehicle history report, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on body condition, signs of prior repairs, and how the truck has been used. Because these trucks can be bought for work, towing, or off-road use, you should pay close attention to wear on the cabin, bed, suspension, and trailering equipment.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Pro trim is aimed at fleet and work use, with no leather or fancy tech, while the SLE and SLT add more comfort. The AT4 is the off-road-focused choice, and the Denali is the luxury-oriented trim; the AT4 and Denali are crew cab only.
• Powertrain: The truck offers strong 6.6-liter V8 gas and turbodiesel options, and the Duramax diesel pairs with an Allison 10-speed automatic. The diesel setup is described as especially powerful, while the gas engine is also strong.
• Safety package: Available driver-assistance features include automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic warning, following distance indicator, hill-descent control, and front and rear park assist. Standard items include HD Surround Vision, a rear-seat reminder system, driver Safety Alert Seat, and Teen Driver.
• Infotainment: Depending on trim, you get a 7-inch or 8-inch color touchscreen. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard on SLT and above, available on SLE, and not offered on the base Pro trim. A navigation system is standard on Denali and available on SLT and AT4, and SLE and above also get SiriusXM, a WiFi hotspot, and OnStar with connected services.
• Fuel efficiency: During testing, the truck averaged an indicated 14.4 mpg in combined driving without a trailer.

Which 2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD trim should I buy?

The 2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD is offered in 5 trim levels: Pro, SLE, SLT, AT4, Denali.

Here's the short version:

• Pro: This is the work-focused choice if you want maximum capability without extra frills. It skips leather and fancy tech, so it makes the most sense if you care more about utility than comfort.
• SLE: This is the first trim that starts adding more mainstream comfort and convenience, and it can be a smart value pick if you want a better daily-driver experience without jumping too far up the price ladder.
• SLT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a stronger mix of comfort and tech, including wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard.
• AT4: This is the right pick if you want the off-road-focused setup, with equipment like skid plates, all-terrain tires, off-road suspension, and trailering hardware. It also brings a more rugged, upscale look and feel.
• Denali: This is the luxury choice, with the most premium presentation and standard navigation. It suits you best if you want the most upscale cabin and are willing to pay for it.

The safety package is broad, but the base Pro trim misses some of the convenience and connectivity features found higher up the lineup.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it pays to compare listings carefully and move quickly on strong examples.

• Deal availability: 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,017 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.92% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $50,616, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD's resale value?

The current average of $50,616 sits slightly below last year's $56,188.

That decline suggests the market has become a little more buyer-friendly, which can matter if you plan to sell later. A lower current entry point can help keep demand moving, especially for shoppers comparing used trucks against new-truck pricing.

For you as a future seller, the key takeaway is that the truck’s value has already adjusted downward, so further depreciation may be more gradual if demand stays steady. Trucks with strong feature content and broad appeal tend to hold attention better than stripped-down work trucks.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD safe?

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The Sierra 2500HD is available with automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic warning, following distance indicator, hill-descent control, and front and rear park assist. Standard items include HD Surround Vision, a rear-seat reminder system, driver Safety Alert Seat, and Teen Driver.

Because of its high gross vehicle weight rating, neither NHTSA nor IIHS has rated its crashworthiness, so you should lean heavily on the available driver-assistance tech and camera systems when shopping.

Should I buy a 2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 81.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.92% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 model year stands out for balancing heavy-duty capability with off-road ability, infotainment, trailering technology, and safety.

The bottom line: If you want a used heavy-duty truck with a strong mix of capability, comfort, and feature content, the 2022 is a sensible target. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you may want to compare it closely with nearby model years to see whether a similar truck offers a better value at a lower asking price.
