CarGurus Analysis: 2022 Ford Mustang

Summary
With 245 currently listed for sale near Macon, GA and an average price of $48,998.00, 31.4% of 2022 Ford Mustangs for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Ford Mustang 4.78 / 5 stars.
92.2% of 2022 Mustang models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2022 Ford Mustang stands out as one of the most recognizable performance cars in American automotive history, and its appeal comes from how it makes performance feel accessible without losing its identity as a true sports car. It has long been offered in coupe and convertible body styles, and that familiar formula remains central to its character. For buyers, the Mustang’s biggest draw is the combination of heritage, rear-wheel-drive dynamics, and a wide range of trims and engines that let it serve both as an everyday sporty car and as something more serious.
What makes the 2022 Ford Mustang especially distinctive is the breadth of its performance choices. In the sixth generation, Ford’s EcoBoost turbocharged 2.3-liter inline four-cylinder engine powers base Mustangs, while other available engines include a 3.7-liter V6, the 5.0-liter Coyote V8, and two versions of the 5.2-liter V8. Transmission choices include two six-speed manuals, six- and 10-speed automatics, and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, and the car remains exclusively rear-wheel drive. That variety is a major strength, but shoppers should also know that EcoBoost models are known for problems with oil consumption and potential head gasket failure, and the transmission may be prone to slippage.
For a used-car buyer, the 2022 Mustang can be appealing because it is still relatively modern while remaining true to the Mustang formula. It offers the kind of performance and styling that owners praise, along with the option of a manual transmission for drivers who want a more engaging experience. At the same time, the model’s long list of configurations means condition and maintenance history matter, especially on a car that can be bought in very different forms depending on how much performance and equipment the original owner wanted.

My husband is against buying cars that have a history of being a rental. I think it’s because a rental isn’t your car and people are reckless. However, Kunes brought to my attention that rentals have strict maintenance requirements that make them a good choice.

Fun to drive. Ecoboost has enough power to have some fun. Everyones idea of enough power is relative but this car will go when you want it too. Looks are awesome and the feel is solid. Handling is excellent from where I am coming from. Id buy the car again.

The Mach 1 is a really good Mustang. Fills the gap between Gt and Gt350. The best thing is the Tremec transmission. But myself I need an automatic. Great body styling and nice exhaust rumble.

Is the 2022 Ford Mustang a good car?
Yes — the 2022 Ford Mustang earns a 4.78/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its performance, handling, and styling, and many also like the manual transmission option and the fun driving experience it delivers. For you, that means this model fits best if you want a sporty car that prioritizes driving enjoyment and recognizable character over everyday practicality. With 31.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have room to shop selectively.
Is the 2022 Ford Mustang reliable?
Owners rate it 4.78/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also points to a car that many drivers feel good about living with over time, especially when it comes to performance and overall enjoyment. That said, used buyers should pay close attention to maintenance records and condition, because long-term ownership risk rises when a sporty car has been modified or poorly maintained.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Ford Mustang?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 79.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should start with a history report so you can confirm accident status and spot any title or ownership issues. After that, prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been modified or driven hard. Focus on overall condition and maintenance history, since those factors matter a lot on a performance car with a wide range of configurations.

The current average of $34,194 sits slightly above last year's $33,654.
That upward movement suggests the market still values this model year well, which can help support resale strength if you buy carefully. If you keep mileage reasonable and maintain the car well, you’re more likely to preserve value when it’s time to sell. Strong demand for sporty, enthusiast-oriented cars can also help keep pricing resilient.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.78/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2022 Ford Mustang or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 79.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices are up 1.60% year-over-year.
- Owners rate it 4.78/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $31,460, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $34,194 average.
- It blends classic Mustang identity with modern tech.
The bottom line: The 2022 is the better fit if you want the stronger current-market picture and high owner satisfaction, especially if you’re shopping for a well-kept example with solid history. If your priority is saving money upfront, the 2021 is the more budget-friendly path and still delivers the Mustang’s core appeal.
