Why it stands out
The 2022 Ford Mustang stands out because it combines the Mustang nameplate’s long-running performance heritage with a broad range of configurations that keep it appealing to different kinds of buyers. As a rear-wheel-drive coupe or convertible, it stays true to the formula that has defined the car for decades, while still offering a choice of turbocharged four-cylinder and V8 power. That mix helps explain why the Mustang remains one of the most recognizable sports cars on the road: it can be a relatively accessible performance car, but it still has the character and image that enthusiasts expect.
For 2022, the Mustang’s appeal also comes from its variety. The sixth-generation car offers Ford’s EcoBoost turbocharged 2.3-liter inline four-cylinder engine, along with a 3.7-liter V6, a 5.0-liter Coyote V8, and two versions of the 5.2-liter V8. Transmission choices include two six-speed manuals, six- and 10-speed automatics, and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. That breadth gives shoppers real flexibility, whether they want a more everyday-friendly setup or a more serious performance model. At the same time, buyers should be aware that EcoBoost models are known for oil consumption and potential head gasket failure, and the transmission may be prone to slippage.
Owners also tend to praise the 2022 Ford Mustang for its performance, handling, styling, and the availability of a manual transmission, all of which reinforce its reputation as a fun driver’s car. The tradeoff is that it can still be a car with some ownership concerns, so condition and maintenance matter. Even so, for shoppers who want a distinctive American sports car with strong enthusiast appeal and plenty of choice, the 2022 Mustang remains an easy car to understand and a hard one to ignore.

My husband is against buying cars that have a history of being a rental. I think it’s because a rental isn’t your car and people are reckless. However, Kunes brought to my attention that rentals have strict maintenance requirements that make them a good choice.

Fun to drive. Ecoboost has enough power to have some fun. Everyones idea of enough power is relative but this car will go when you want it too. Looks are awesome and the feel is solid. Handling is excellent from where I am coming from. Id buy the car again.

The Mach 1 is a really good Mustang. Fills the gap between Gt and Gt350. The best thing is the Tremec transmission. But myself I need an automatic. Great body styling and nice exhaust rumble.

| Current Average Price | $34,356 |
| Year-Round Low | $30,449 |
| Year-Round High | $34,568 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $33,657 |
| Change vs. Last Year | +2.08% |
Prices are up 2.08% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.
There are 1,716 listings available, which gives you a meaningful amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2022 Ford Mustang a good car?
Yes — the 2022 Ford Mustang earns a 4.78/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its performance, handling, and styling, and many also like the manual transmission and the fun driving experience. That makes it a strong fit if you want a sporty coupe or convertible with real enthusiast appeal and enough variety to suit different driving preferences. With 32.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have room to shop selectively.
Is the 2022 Ford Mustang reliable?
Owners rate it 4.78/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also points to a car that many drivers find dependable and enjoyable over time, especially when it comes to the driving experience and overall ownership confidence. Because some buyers mention concerns on specific models, long-term ownership risk is best managed by focusing on maintenance history and condition before you commit.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Ford Mustang?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 76.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should prioritize a history report first, then inspect the car closely for signs of prior damage, modifications, or uneven wear. Pay extra attention to overall condition and maintenance records, since those factors matter more when you’re shopping a performance-oriented used car. A careful pre-purchase inspection can help you separate a well-kept example from one that may bring avoidable ownership headaches.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Ford Mustang?
This is a moderate market, so you can buy now if the right car shows up, but it still pays to be selective.
- Deal availability: 32.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,716 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices are up 2.08% year-over-year.
- Clean inventory: 76.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $30,449, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Ford Mustang's resale value?
The current average of $34,356 sits slightly above last year's $33,657.
That upward movement suggests the market is still willing to pay for this model year, which can help support future resale strength. If you buy well and keep the car in good condition, you may be better positioned when it’s time to sell. Strong demand for sporty, enthusiast-focused cars can also help keep interest steady.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.78/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2022 Ford Mustang or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 32.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 76.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices are up 2.08% year-over-year.
- Owners rate it 4.78/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $30,561, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $34,356 average.
- It adds the Mach 1 trim for shoppers who want more performance variety.
The bottom line:
The 2022 is the better all-around pick if you want strong owner satisfaction, solid inventory, and a broad shopping pool. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2021 is the smarter value play, especially if you find one in excellent condition.
