Is the 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV a good car?

Yes — it earns a 5/5 user rating and an 8/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.

The Bolt EV is presented as a practical, mainstream EV with a bolder new look, standard DC fast charging, and a 259-mile range that makes it feel less limited for everyday use. It also stands out for wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a spacious cabin, and strong value for money.

The main trade-offs are inconvenient control placement and a cabin layout that can feel less intuitive than its strengths suggest. For you, that means the Bolt EV makes the most sense if you want an affordable EV that prioritizes usability and value over flash.

37.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you a decent chance of finding a competitive offer.

Is the 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Bolt EV is described as a practical EV with a straightforward, mainstream approach, and its standard DC fast charging adds everyday usability. Its electric powertrain is backed by an eight-year/100,000-mile warranty, which helps reduce long-term ownership risk for used buyers.

The battery and electric drive components are covered for a meaningful portion of ownership, but you should still pay close attention to battery condition, charging behavior, and any signs of unusual degradation before you buy.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report, confirm the car’s recall status, and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that checks charging performance, cabin controls, and overall condition. Because this is an EV, battery health matters as much as cosmetic wear, so focus on how the car charges at home and on DC fast chargers.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The 1LT includes 17-inch aluminum wheels, heated and power-adjustable side mirrors, solar-absorbing glass, manual front seats, a 60/40 split-fold rear seat, automatic climate control, and a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto. The 2LT adds heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and leather seating, so it suits you better if you want more comfort features.
• Powertrain: The Bolt EV uses a single electric motor with front-wheel drive, and it makes 200 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque. It’s quick off the line and still has enough power for highway passing, though range can fall off with Sport mode or at higher speeds.
• Safety package: Chevy Safety Assist is standard and includes automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, and automatic high beams. The 1LT can add the Driver Confidence Package with rear park assist, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-change alert with side blind zone alert.
• Infotainment: You get a 10.2-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto, plus the updated Chevrolet Infotainment System 3 setup. The system also supports energy and charging pages, and it keeps a conventional layout that should be easy to learn.
• Range & charging: The Bolt EV carries a 259-mile range and a 65-kilowatt-hour battery pack. DC fast charging can add up to 90 miles of range in about 30 minutes, while Level 2 charging adds about 20 miles of range per hour.
• Battery health: For a used EV, you should check battery state-of-health, ask how often the car has been DC fast charged versus charged at home, and confirm how much of the battery warranty remains. A battery that has been treated gently and still holds strong range will be the safer buy.

Which 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV trim should I buy?

The 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV is offered in 2 trim levels: 1LT and 2LT.

Here's the short version:

• 1LT: This is the value play if you want the Bolt EV’s core strengths without paying for extra comfort features. You still get the 10.2-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the standard EV hardware that makes the car appealing in the first place.
• 2LT: This is the better choice if you want a more comfortable daily driver, since it adds heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and leather seating. If you want the best-value trim, this is the one to compare carefully against the 1LT because it adds meaningful comfort without changing the Bolt EV’s basic mission.

The 1LT can also be equipped with the Driver Confidence Package, which adds rear park assist, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-change alert with side blind zone alert.

What is the 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV's resale value?

The current average of $19,292 sits slightly above last year's $18,988.

That modest increase suggests the Bolt EV has held demand reasonably well, especially for shoppers who want an affordable EV with usable range and standard fast charging. If you buy well and keep the car in strong condition, you should have a decent chance of preserving value relative to more niche EVs.

The market also appears to support this model year with a meaningful share of listings priced as good or great deals, which can help you buy at a sensible entry point. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV safe?

The 2022 Bolt EV comes standard with Chevy Safety Assist, which includes automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, and automatic high beams.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The Bolt EV also includes a tire pressure monitoring system and a tire-fill alert. An optional Driver Confidence Package for the 1LT trim adds rear park assist, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-change alert with side blind zone alert.

One important caveat is the recall history tied to rare manufacturing defects that increased fire risk, so you should verify that any used example has had the necessary recall work completed.

Should I buy a 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 37.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.60% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds standard DC fast charging and a more usable, updated EV package.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $17,097, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $19,292 average.
• It focuses on affordability and practicality as a daily EV commuter.

The bottom line: If you want the better-rounded Bolt EV, the 2022 is the stronger pick because it adds standard fast charging and keeps the useful range and value story intact. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2021 is the better path, especially if you find one in strong condition with a clean history.
