How much does the 2021 Toyota Prius cost?

Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.

There are 384 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2021 Toyota Prius a good car?

Yes — the 5/5 user rating and 6.2/10 expert rating point to a car that delivers on its mission. The 2021 Toyota Prius is aimed at you if you want a practical, efficiency-first car that keeps hassle, expense, and discomfort low, and its quiet cabin and strong value for money reinforce that role. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 9/10.

The main trade-offs are its potentially polarizing design and sluggish performance. If you care more about getting from point A to point B efficiently than about excitement, the Prius fits that use case well.

30.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there is still room to shop carefully.

Is the 2021 Toyota Prius reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The 2021 Toyota Prius is built around reliability, efficiency, safety, and economy, and its cost-effectiveness score reflects that practical focus. It also comes with complimentary scheduled maintenance for the first two years or 25,000 miles, which helps reduce early ownership costs.

Its dependability story is strongest when you pair that reputation with a careful used-car inspection, since long-term ownership risk is still tied to how well the car was maintained and driven before you buy.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Toyota Prius?

At 71.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has higher mileage or visible cosmetic wear. Focus on condition, maintenance records, and whether the car’s safety and driver-assistance systems function as expected. If you’re comparing multiple listings, give extra weight to cars with cleaner histories and better-documented upkeep.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup includes L Eco, LE, XLE, 2020 Edition, and Limited. The base trim is the most stripped-down choice, while higher trims add more convenience and equipment; the Limited also gets the unique infotainment setup.
• Powertrain: The Prius pairs a 1.8-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine with an electric motor and an e-CVT. Front-drive models are tuned for efficiency, and AWD-e versions trade some fuel economy for added traction.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard, with adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, lane-centering assist, automatic high beams, and road-sign recognition. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is included on LE and higher trims.
• Infotainment: Most trims get a 7-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth, SiriusXM, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa compatibility, Safety Connect, and WiFi Connect. The Limited uses an 11.6-inch portrait-style screen, but it does not get Android Auto on that system.
• Fuel efficiency: The L Eco can average 56 mpg combined, other front-drive versions are rated at 52 mpg combined, and AWD-e models return 49 mpg combined. The 2020 Edition averaged 47.5 mpg in testing.

Which 2021 Toyota Prius trim should I buy?

The 2021 Toyota Prius is offered in 5 trim levels: L Eco, LE, XLE, 2020 Edition, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• L Eco: This is the efficiency-first choice, and it is the best-value trim if your priority is maximizing fuel economy above all else.
• LE: This is the trim most shoppers should start with because it adds more everyday usability, and it can be paired with AWD-e if you want extra traction.
• XLE: Choose this if you want a more upscale-feeling Prius without jumping all the way to the top trim.
• 2020 Edition: This is the commemorative special edition, so it makes sense if you want the limited-run styling and exclusivity.
• Limited: This is the most feature-rich version, with the larger 11.6-inch infotainment system, JBL audio, navigation, and voice recognition.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard across the lineup, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert starts on LE and higher trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Toyota Prius?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 30.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 384 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 71.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $19,691, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Toyota Prius's resale value?

The current average of $21,104 sits slightly below last year's $21,159.

That small decline suggests the Prius has held value fairly well rather than dropping sharply. For you as a future seller, that kind of stability can make ownership costs easier to predict, especially in a model that already appeals to efficiency-minded buyers. Strong demand for practical, fuel-efficient cars can also help support pricing when your vehicle is clean and well maintained.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Toyota Prius safe?

The 2021 Toyota Prius earns favorable marks from IIHS, though it does not have a crashworthiness rating from NHTSA.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard on every trim, and it includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, lane-centering assist, automatic high-beam headlights, and road-sign recognition. If you choose LE or higher, you also get blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.

One caveat is that the lane-keeping and lane-centering systems can make the steering feel more artificial, and the lane-departure warning can become annoying in daily use.

Should I buy a 2021 Toyota Prius or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 30.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 71.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Toyota made Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 standard across the lineup and added Android Auto to the standard system.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $20,966, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $21,104 average.
• It remains a benchmark hybrid with strong versatility, technology, and an available all-wheel-drive variant.

The bottom line: If you want the newer model year with standard safety upgrades and stable pricing, the 2021 is the better default choice. If your main goal is saving money up front, the 2020 is the smarter value play as long as you’re comfortable giving up some of the 2021 updates.
