How much does the 2021 Toyota Corolla cost?

Prices have softened 3.77% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,165 listings available, which suggests you should have a workable selection to compare.

Is the 2021 Toyota Corolla a good car?

Generally — the 2021 Toyota Corolla earns a 4.43/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating, which points to broad appeal for used-car shoppers. The model scores 9/10 across Technology and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its stylish design, excellent gas mileage, and reliability, and many also like how many features it packs in for city driving. The main trade-offs are a noisier cabin and outdated technology, while the overview also frames it as a compact sedan that can feel more engaging in SE and XSE form.

With its mix of affordability, reliability, efficiency, and a sportier personality in the SE and XSE trims, it fits you best if you want a practical compact car that still feels a little more involved. The market also shows 31.8% of listings as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 Toyota Corolla reliable?

Owners rate it 4.43/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner summary points to reliability, excellent gas mileage, and a car that many drivers feel good about for everyday use. The expert review also emphasizes affordability, reliability, efficiency, and a reputation for bulletproof dependability, while noting that the Corolla is the kind of car you can count on for straightforward ownership.

Toyota also includes a free maintenance plan for two years or 25,000 miles, which helps reduce early ownership costs. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about mechanical drama and more about finding a well-kept example that hasn’t been worn down by heavy daily use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Toyota Corolla?

At 63.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with visible cosmetic wear. Focus on condition, maintenance records, and whether the car’s equipment matches the trim you want, since the Corolla’s value can change a lot based on features.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SE and XSE add sport-design bumpers, a mesh grille insert, a subtle body kit, a twin-outlet exhaust, and 18-inch aluminum wheels, while the L, LE, and XLE are the more anonymous choices. The SE is the better value if you want the sportier look without paying for the XSE’s extra equipment.
• Powertrain: The SE and XSE use a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine with 169 horsepower and 151 lb-ft of torque, paired with a Dynamic Shift CVT and paddle shifters. A six-speed manual with downshift rev-matching is available with SE trim.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection and cyclist detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, lane-centering assistance, and automatic high-beam headlights. Rear side-impact airbags are also standard, while blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning is available.
• Infotainment: Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Amazon Alexa, and SiriusXM are standard. The SE gets an 8-inch touchscreen, while the XSE adds Service Connect and Remote Connect; dynamic voice recognition, dynamic navigation, and Destination Assist are exclusive to the XSE.
• Fuel efficiency: The XSE is rated at 34 mpg combined, and the review recorded 31.1 mpg on a mountainous route.

Which 2021 Toyota Corolla trim should I buy?

The 2021 Toyota Corolla is offered in 3 trim levels: L, LE, XLE.

Here's the short version:

• L: This is the simplest path into the Corolla lineup if you want the lowest-frills version and are mainly focused on basic transportation.
• LE: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it balances price and equipment while keeping the Corolla’s core strengths intact.
• XLE: Choose this if you want a more upscale take on the Corolla and are willing to pay more for added comfort and convenience.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard, so even the lower trims get the core driver-assistance package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Toyota Corolla?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right car.

• Deal availability: 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,165 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.77% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 63.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $16,496, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Toyota Corolla's resale value?

The current average of $17,063 sits slightly below last year's $17,732.

That softer pricing can help you buy in at a more favorable point, but it also means future resale gains may be more modest if the market stays soft. For a seller, the current trend suggests you should expect steady demand rather than a big price jump.

The Corolla’s reputation for reliability and efficiency should continue to support buyer interest when you eventually sell. Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.43/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Toyota Corolla safe?

The 2021 Corolla’s safety story is anchored by Toyota Safety Sense 2.0, which includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection and cyclist detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, lane-centering assistance, and automatic high-beam headlights.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota also adds standard rear side-impact airbags, and the available blind-spot warning system gains rear cross-traffic warning. The expert review notes that adaptive cruise control can brake unevenly at times and that lane-centering may occasionally need driver override, so the system is strong overall but not flawless.

Should I buy a 2021 Toyota Corolla or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 63.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.77% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.43/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 stands out for standard advanced safety features, a manual transmission option, and a sportier SE/XSE personality.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $16,742, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $17,063 average.
• It adds style and excitement to the Corolla formula while keeping the same practical mission.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $18,541, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $17,063 average.
• It broadens the Corolla lineup with sedan, hatchback, hybrid, and more trim choices.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, features, and a more engaging driving feel, the 2021 is the smart default. If your priority is saving money, the 2020 is the better value play; if you want more configuration flexibility, the 2022 is worth the extra spend.
