Used 2021 Toyota Avalon for Sale nearCincinnati, OH

How much does the 2021 Toyota Avalon cost?

Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.

There are 183 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2021 Toyota Avalon a good car?

Generally — the 2021 Toyota Avalon earns a 4.33/5 user rating and a 6.00/10 expert rating. The model scores 7/10 across Look and feel, Technology, and Safety.

Drivers consistently praise its luxurious features, smooth ride, and safety attributes, and many also like the spacious interior and comfortable seating. The TRD version is another recurring bright spot, with owners calling out its stronger performance and added style.

The trade-offs are clear: the base engine is described as underwhelming, all-wheel drive is limited to the four-cylinder setup, and the technology feels outdated. That matters if you want a big sedan that feels modern in daily use, even though the Avalon still fits buyers who want a roomy, comfortable car with a more upscale feel than a mainstream midsize sedan.

With 42.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market gives you some room to shop carefully.

Is the 2021 Toyota Avalon reliable?

Owners rate it 4.33/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The user feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with drivers repeatedly highlighting the car’s comfortable ride, safety, and upscale feel. That kind of praise usually lines up with a vehicle people feel they can count on over time.

Toyota also backs the Avalon with free scheduled maintenance for two years or 25,000 miles, which helps reduce early ownership costs. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about basic dependability and more about whether the car’s age, equipment, and condition justify the price you pay.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Toyota Avalon?

At 74.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-priced trim. Focus on condition, equipment operation, and signs of prior repair work so you can separate a clean example from one that has been cosmetically refreshed after damage.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The XLE and Limited are the comfort-focused choices, while the XSE Nightshade, XSE Hybrid, Touring, and TRD bring the sportier styling and tuning. The base versions are the ones most likely to leave you wanting more if you care about appearance or performance.
• Powertrain: Toyota offers a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with AWD, a standard 301-hp 3.5-liter V6, and a 215-hp hybrid. The four-cylinder is the least exciting choice, while the V6 and hybrid better match the Avalon’s upscale mission.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense-P includes full-speed-range adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, and automatic high-beam headlights. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are also standard, while the optional Advanced Safety Package adds a surround-view camera system, parking assist sonar, and rear automatic braking.
• Infotainment: Every Avalon gets a 9-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, SiriusXM, and Toyota connected services. The upgraded system adds dynamic navigation, voice recognition, over-the-air updates during the trial period, and a 14-speaker JBL audio system.
• Fuel efficiency: The AWD four-cylinder is rated at 28 mpg in combined driving, and the hybrid can deliver up to 44 mpg in combined driving.

Which 2021 Toyota Avalon trim should I buy?

The 2021 Toyota Avalon is offered in 5 trim levels: XLE, XSE Nightshade, Limited, XSE Hybrid, and Touring.

Here's the short version:

• XLE: This is the trim to target if you want the Avalon’s comfort-first personality without paying for extra appearance or performance upgrades. It also matters because AWD is available only with the non-hybrid XLE and Limited, so this is the entry point if you want all-weather traction.
• XSE Nightshade: Choose this if you want the darker exterior treatment and a more aggressive look. It’s more about style than added luxury, so it suits you best if appearance matters more than extra equipment.
• Limited: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it combines the upscale cabin details with the most premium feel in the lineup. It’s also one of the trims eligible for AWD, which makes it the most flexible choice if you want comfort and capability together.
• XSE Hybrid: Pick this if you want the Avalon’s upscale cabin with better efficiency and a sportier visual theme. It’s the trim for you if fuel economy matters more than AWD availability.
• Touring: This is the trim for buyers who want the sportiest setup in the standard lineup. It leans into the Avalon’s performance side more than the comfort-focused trims.

Toyota Safety Sense-P is standard across the lineup, but the safety content notes that lower trim headlight performance keeps the Avalon from earning a Top Safety Pick award.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Toyota Avalon?

It’s a favorable time to shop if you want leverage on price and enough listings to compare.

• Deal availability: 42.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 183 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 74.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $26,547, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Toyota Avalon’s resale value?

The current average of $27,921 sits slightly below last year's $27,987.

That small decline suggests the Avalon’s market value has been fairly stable rather than volatile. For a future seller, that usually means you’re less likely to see dramatic swings, but you also shouldn’t expect the car to appreciate or hold value purely because of scarcity.

The Avalon’s position as a roomy, comfortable sedan with a clear identity can help keep it relevant with shoppers who still want a traditional large car. At the same time, its shrinking-segment status and mixed value perception can limit upside if the market shifts further toward SUVs.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.33/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Toyota Avalon safe?

The 2021 Toyota Avalon earns top scores from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense-P is standard, and it includes full-speed-range adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, and automatic high-beam headlights. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are also standard, and the optional Advanced Safety Package adds a surround-view camera system, parking assist sonar, and rear automatic braking.

One important caveat is that lower trim headlight performance keeps the Avalon from qualifying for a Top Safety Pick award, so trim choice matters if safety credentials are a priority.

Should I buy a 2021 Toyota Avalon or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 42.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 74.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.33/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It adds AWD availability and updated tech like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $28,011, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $27,921 average.
• It was revitalized by the TNGA platform and feels like a flagship sedan.

The bottom line: The 2021 is the better primary choice if you want the newer tech, stable pricing, and a broader set of shopping opportunities. If you’re price-sensitive, the 2020 can still make sense, but only if you find a cleaner example or a stronger condition-to-price match than the 2021 listings you’re comparing.
