CarGurus Analysis: 2021 Tesla Model X
Summary
With 491 currently listed for sale and an average price of $37,453, 28.3% of 2021 Tesla Model X listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Tesla Model X 4.67 / 5 stars.
82.9% of 2021 Tesla Model X listings on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2021 Tesla Model X stands out as a large, all-electric family SUV that combines unusual packaging with serious performance and range. It is based on the same platform as the Tesla Model S and seats up to seven passengers, but its signature feature is the double-hinged Falcon Wing rear doors that open upward instead of outward. For buyers who want something more distinctive than a conventional three-row crossover, that design alone makes the Model X memorable.
This model year also brought a major overhaul. The interior was redesigned, the entire powertrain was updated, and the Model X Plaid was introduced with a tri-motor setup. The 2021 Model X also gained new electrical architecture, an improved infotainment system with faster processing speeds, updated Autopilot hardware, a landscape-format center screen, a revised center console, a yoke steering wheel, and a rear-seat entertainment screen. Long Range models were rated at 670 hp with an estimated 360 miles of range, while Plaid models delivered 1,020 hp and an estimated 340 miles of range. Standard equipment was extensive, including all-wheel drive, heated front and rear seats, a heated steering wheel, adaptive suspension, a premium 17-speaker audio system, navigation, Wi-Fi connectivity, Bluetooth phone pairing, and automatic front doors.
There are tradeoffs, though. The Model X still lacks Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and its Falcon Wing doors can be tricky in tight spaces. Even so, the 2021 version is appealing because it pairs advanced tech, strong acceleration, and long-range capability with a cabin that feels more modern and premium than before.

Absolutely amazing! The tech, the power, the handling, the comfort is all amazing. If I had to list one thing to be improved upon, its that there is a little wind noise at the upper front left and right window posts at speed.

Features were awesome, if only it came with all the extra perks that Tesla offer that we are charge a fee for. The only thing the car is missing is a better rim package, the black rims.

Is the 2021 Tesla Model X a good car?
Yes — the 2021 Tesla Model X earns a 4.67/5 user rating, which supports its appeal as a large, all-electric family SUV with unusual packaging and serious performance. The 2021 model year also brought a major overhaul, including a redesigned interior, updated powertrain, new electrical architecture, faster infotainment, updated Autopilot hardware, and a more premium cabin feel. If you want a distinctive three-row EV with strong acceleration, long-range capability, and a feature-rich interior, this model fits that brief well. 28.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2021 Tesla Model X reliable?
Owners rate it 4.67/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The 2021 Model X’s appeal comes from its updated hardware, improved infotainment, and extensive standard equipment, all of which point to a more modern ownership experience than earlier versions. Its all-electric layout also removes many traditional maintenance items you’d expect on a gas-powered SUV. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the vehicle’s condition and history are clean, since a complex premium EV can be costly if prior care was inconsistent.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Tesla Model X?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.4% — always verify the vehicle history report. You should also prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on the Falcon Wing doors, interior electronics, and overall fit and finish, since those are the kinds of areas where condition matters most on a premium used SUV. Because this model leans heavily on advanced tech and convenience features, you’ll want to confirm that everything works as intended and that the cabin shows normal wear for the mileage.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Tesla Model X?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without expecting every listing to be a bargain.
- Deal availability: 28.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 484 listings available.
- Clean inventory: 82.4% of listings are accident-free.

Choose the 2021 if:
- 28.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: The 2021 Model X is the right pick if you want the redesigned cabin, updated tech, and the strongest blend of performance and range in this generation. If your priority is stretching your budget, a nearby year may be worth considering, but the 2021 is the better all-around choice when you want the most modern version of the Model X experience.
