Summary
With 272 currently listed for sale and an average price of $40,185, 37.1% of 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE 4.5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE stands out as a midsize luxury SUV that leans hard into comfort and technology. Redesigned for 2020, it brings premium interior materials and impressive technology, and the overall package is broad enough that multiple powertrain options are part of its appeal. Mercedes also offers GLE Coupe models for 2021, giving the lineup an especially unusual and distinctive look among big luxury SUVs.
That said, the 2021 GLE is not without compromises. Its styling is described as uninspired, advanced safety features are not standard, and the base engine is underwhelming. Owners generally praise the SUV’s technology, comfort, customizable features, and high-quality sound system, but some also feel it is overpriced and note that performance may not match competitors at the same price point.

This SUV is a masterpiece from MB, the luxury and sporty performance is perfectly on point. Wouldn’t want any other SUV with a similar price point.

For me , the 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE- Class is the perfect option. It’s seating and cargo capacity are not that of the larger SUVs like the Escalade, Navigator, Expedition, etc…, but it feels like a large SUV and the cargo capacity is good despite not having the extra length. The year model is just right because the prices typically reflect the “new car” depreciation mostly gone and the technology in the car is very similar, if not identical, to the current 2023 models. I went with the AMG GLE 63 s for the best this class offers at a price that is more in-line with the 350 or 450 models. I don’t regret my purchase at all. Thanks Car Gurus!!

Note: I have a GLE53 AMG The ride quality is okay. You feel bumps but overall its alright.. just not as soft as a range rover.. however thats only because it is an AMG and the suspension is meant to be a little harsh but you wont have the same experience in the 350, 450 or 580. I wouldnt recommend the 350 though because its a small 4 cylinder with not that much horsepower, the GLE weighs a lot so that would be straining the engine and overall not good for long term reliability, therefore go with the 450. Technology is great in the new 2021 GLE, very very customizable and WAY above its Japanese rivals. The ambient lighting is top notch and is simply the best in the industry, its a good conversation starter for friends in your vehicle and it is a nice mood setter. I wish that the infotainment had a rotary wheel like my 2016 GLE450 AMG Coupe and 2019 GLS63 AMG both have. Overall I would recommend to anyone.

|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $37,813 |
| Year-Round Low | $37,813 |
| Year-Round High | $42,374 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $42,383 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −10.78% |
Prices have softened 10.78% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 2,690 listings available, which gives you a solid pool to compare prices and equipment.
Is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE a good car?
Yes — the 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE earns a 4.5/5 user rating and an 8/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Performance, Technology, and Safety.
Owners consistently praise its technology, comfort, customizable features, and high-quality sound system. Those strengths line up with the GLE’s upscale interior and broad powertrain range, which make it appealing if you want a luxury SUV that feels richly equipped and highly configurable.
The trade-offs are familiar: some owners feel it is overpriced, and the performance may not match competitors at the same price point, especially in heavier versions. The overview also points to a base engine that is underwhelming, so the best fit is usually a buyer who values comfort and tech over outright value or sporty character.
The market reflects that appeal, with 36.7% of listings marked as good or great deals.
Is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE reliable?
Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also points to a dependable-feeling ownership experience, with praise centered on comfort, technology, and features that make the SUV easy to live with over time. On the expert side, the base coil-spring setup is described as the most sensible choice for reliability because it avoids expensive suspension hardware, and the seamless stop-start behavior suggests a well-integrated powertrain.
If you’re shopping used, the main long-term risk is complexity: higher trims add more advanced suspension, hybrid, and electronic systems that can be costlier to maintain.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still run a history report on every candidate and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the vehicle has advanced suspension or higher-end equipment. Focus on overall condition, service records, and whether the features you care about are actually present on the trim you’re considering.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base GLE 350 is the only version with rear-wheel drive and the only one that uses an ordinary coil-sprung setup, while higher trims add more advanced suspension hardware and more equipment. The cabin is a major strength, but the base trim still leaves you wanting more if you expect a fully loaded luxury experience.
- Powertrain: The GLE 350 uses a 255-hp turbocharged four-cylinder, the GLE 450 uses a 362-hp turbocharged inline-six, the AMG GLE 53 adds an electric supercharger for 429 hp, the GLE 580 uses a twin-turbo V8 with 483 hp, and the GLE 63 S tops the range with 603 hp. Efficiency varies by version, and the hybrid setup is more about smoothness and added response than major fuel savings.
- Safety package: The standard safety suite includes blind-spot monitoring, a driver attention monitor, and forward emergency braking. Adaptive cruise, lane-keeping, evasive steering assist, front cross-traffic braking, and semi-automated control are optional, so you should check carefully for missing driver-assistance features on lower-spec examples.
- Infotainment: The GLE uses a 12-inch touchscreen with Interior Assistant, standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a natural voice assistant, and a highly configurable display setup. It also supports touchpad and thumbpad control, plus over-the-air-style convenience features such as a system that can learn new commands.
- Fuel efficiency: The GLE 450 returns 21/26/23 mpg, the GLE 350 4Matic returns 19/26/22 mpg, the GLE 580 is rated at 16/21/18 mpg, and the AMG GLE 53 Coupe averaged 16 mpg.
Which 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE trim should I buy?
The 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE is offered in 5 trim levels: GLE 350, GLE 450, AMG GLE 53, GLE 580, and AMG GLE 63 S.
Here's the short version:
- GLE 350: This is the entry point, and it’s the only rear-wheel-drive version. It makes the most sense if you want the lowest starting price and are comfortable giving up the richer powertrains and more advanced suspension hardware found higher up the range.
- GLE 450: This is the best-value choice for most shoppers because it adds the stronger inline-six, better efficiency than the V8 and AMG models, and a more polished overall balance without jumping all the way to AMG pricing.
- AMG GLE 53: Choose this if you want sharper performance and the electric-supercharged inline-six, plus AMG-specific driving modes and track-focused tech. It’s the right pick if you care more about speed and response than value.
- GLE 580: This trim brings the twin-turbo V8 and a big jump in power, making it the choice for buyers who want effortless acceleration and don’t mind the higher fuel and purchase costs.
- AMG GLE 63 S: This is the top performance model, with the most power, the most aggressive AMG tuning, and the most expensive price tag. It’s for you if you want the most extreme version of the GLE and are willing to pay for it.
Blind-spot monitoring and a driver attention monitor are standard, while several other driver-assistance features remain optional.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory to shop carefully but still enough pricing variation to find value.
- Deal availability: 36.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,690 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.78% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 85.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $37,813, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE's resale value?
The current average of $37,813 sits slightly below last year's $42,383.
That decline suggests the market has cooled, which can help you buy more confidently now but may also limit near-term upside if you plan to resell soon. For a future seller, the key takeaway is that the GLE’s value is being supported more by demand for luxury features than by price momentum.
If you keep the vehicle in strong condition and maintain it well, you’ll be better positioned when it’s time to trade or sell. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE safe?
The 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE earns the IIHS Top Safety Pick+ rating.
It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.
The standard safety equipment includes blind-spot monitoring, a driver attention monitor, and forward emergency braking. Optional features include adaptive cruise, lane-keeping, evasive steering assist, front cross-traffic braking, 360-degree cameras, and semi-automated control that can stop the car if the driver does not respond. Pre-Safe Sound is standard, and Pre-Safe Impulse Side is available on higher trims.
Should I buy a 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 36.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.78% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It combines comfort, technology, and multiple powertrain choices in a broad, upscale package.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $27,180, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $37,813 average.
- It offers a roomier interior and a quieter, more comfortable feel.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $40,157, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $37,813 average.
- It leans harder into style with a more distinctive SUV-coupe look.
The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of price, inventory, and owner satisfaction, the 2021 is the primary path to consider. If your budget is tighter, the 2020 is the better value play, while the 2022 makes sense if you want the more expressive design and are willing to pay more for it.
