Volvo’s maintenance reminders through its connected app add a practical ownership perk, and the overall package suggests a well-sorted SUV rather than a high-drama one. What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Volvo XC60?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 83.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on every candidate and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are considering a higher-mileage or more heavily optioned example. Focus on overall condition, evidence of regular maintenance, and whether the features you care about are present and working as expected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The XC60 lineup spans T5 FWD Momentum, T5 R-Design, T5 Inscription, T6 AWD Momentum, T6 AWD R-Design, T6 AWD Inscription, T8 eAWD Inscription, T8 eAWD R-Design, and T8 eAWD Polestar Engineered. The base Momentum is the value play, while the higher trims add more luxury and visual polish.
• Powertrain: You get a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with an eight-speed automatic, with T5 models offering front- or all-wheel drive, T6 models using AWD only, and T8 models adding an electric motor for plug-in hybrid driving. Efficiency ranges from 22 mpg city/29 mpg highway/25 mpg combined in T5 FWD form to 57 MPGe combined in electric-only mode for the T8.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes blind-spot monitoring with steering assist, rear cross-traffic alert with automatic emergency braking, collision avoidance, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping aid, run-off road protection, run-off road mitigation, and a rear park assist camera. Pilot Assist is available, but it is not standard.
• Infotainment: The XC60 uses Volvo’s Sensus system with a 9-inch portrait-style touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, and a WiFi hotspot. The interface can feel intuitive once you learn it, but nested functions can be distracting while driving.
• Fuel efficiency: EPA figures range from 22 mpg city/29 mpg highway/25 mpg combined for the T5 FWD to 27 mpg combined for the T8 PHEV and 57 MPGe combined in electric-only mode.

• Inventory: There are 747 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.33% compared with last year.

What is the 2021 Volvo XC60's resale value?

The current average of $23,716 sits slightly below last year's $27,364.

That decline suggests the XC60 has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future sellers if the market stabilizes. If you buy well and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you may be starting from a more favorable price base than a year ago.

The current pricing also indicates that buyers are still getting a premium SUV at a more approachable level than before. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Pilot Assist is available if you want a more advanced hands-on driving aid.

Should I buy a 2021 Volvo XC60 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 36.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 83.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.33% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It combines strong safety credentials with a premium, comfortable, and stylish cabin.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $27,027, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $23,716 average.
• It adds mild-hybrid powertrains and an updated Android-based infotainment system.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2021 is the smarter starting point because pricing has softened and inventory is healthy. If you are willing to pay more for newer tech and updated powertrains, the 2022 is the cleaner upgrade path.
