How much does the 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class cost?

Prices have softened 2.04% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 775 listings available, which gives you a meaningful pool to compare prices and equipment.

Is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class a good car?

Yes — owners rate it 5/5, and the expert rating is 7.83/10. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Performance.

Owners consistently praise its performance, visibility, and design, and the G-Class stands out for feeling unlike almost anything else on the road. It also fits buyers who want serious capability wrapped in a luxury package, with a rugged, body-on-frame setup and standard all-wheel drive.

The trade-offs are clear: poor handling and limited cargo space are recurring concerns, and the price can be steep. Even so, if you want a distinctive luxury SUV with strong capability and a big personality, this year’s G-Class makes a compelling case.

Is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels luxurious, impressive, and confidence-inspiring over time, with repeated praise for its performance and design. The expert evaluation also emphasizes the G-Class’s capable mechanical setup and sophisticated powertrain, which supports the impression that it is built to handle demanding use.

Mercedes-Benz includes two years or 20,000 miles of Star Service covering two factory-scheduled maintenance visits, which helps early ownership costs. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that this is a complex, expensive SUV to own if prior maintenance or repairs were deferred.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 83% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any candidate, because a clean listing percentage does not replace documentation. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that checks the drivetrain, suspension, electronics, and any signs of hard use. Focus on condition and maintenance records, since this is a high-cost luxury SUV where deferred upkeep can become expensive quickly.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The G-Class lineup includes the G550 and the Mercedes-AMG G63. The G550 already brings the core G-Class experience, while the G63 adds more power and a more opulent feel. The base model still carries the rugged, boxy character and luxury interior that define the vehicle.
• Powertrain: The G550 uses a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 with 416 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque, paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission and permanent four-wheel drive. It also includes Dynamic Select driving programs, including G-mode for more assertive off-roading.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes a rearview camera, Pre-Safe, traffic-sign assist, attention assist, active lane-keeping assist, active brake assist, active distance assist distronic, active parking assist, and blind-spot monitoring. Active lane-keeping assist can feel abrupt, so you should understand how it behaves before relying on it.
• Infotainment: The cabin features a 12.3-inch widescreen infotainment display, and the tech setup includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth hands-free and streaming audio, WiFi, and Mercedes me connect services. Wireless device charging is not provided.
• Fuel efficiency: The G550 is rated at 13 mpg city, 19 mpg highway, and 18 mpg combined.

Which 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class trim should I buy?

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class is offered in 2 trim levels: G550 and Mercedes-AMG G63.

Here's the short version:

• G550: This is the best-value choice if you want the classic G-Class experience without jumping to the highest price point. It delivers the signature boxy design, strong V8 power, standard four-wheel drive, and the core luxury and tech features that make the G-Class special.
• Mercedes-AMG G63: Choose this if you want the most powerful and most extravagant version of the G-Class. It turns the formula up with more output and a more over-the-top luxury feel, but it is the pricier path.

The safety content notes that the G550 includes a broad standard driver-assistance suite, while the G63 shares the same core safety approach.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find opportunities.

• Deal availability: 36.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 775 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.04% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 83.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $136,132, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class's resale value?

The current average of $136,132 sits slightly below last year's $138,973.

That softer pricing suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy more selectively now. For a future seller, the current trend implies you may not see immediate appreciation, so condition and mileage will matter a lot when it is time to resell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class safe?

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class has not been rated for crash-worthiness or safety by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes a rearview camera, Pre-Safe, traffic-sign assist, attention assist, active lane-keeping assist, active brake assist, active distance assist distronic, active parking assist, and blind-spot monitoring. The system list is strong for the class, but active lane-keeping assist can feel abrupt, so you should test it carefully and understand its behavior before depending on it.

Should I buy a 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 36.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 83% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.04% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It combines the classic boxy G-Class look with a powerful V8, standard four-wheel drive, and a luxury-focused cabin.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $120,791, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $136,132 average.
• It delivers a similarly distinctive, rugged luxury formula with strong off-road character.

The bottom line: If you want the stronger current-market balance of price, inventory, and owner satisfaction, the 2021 is the better starting point. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2020 is the more budget-friendly path and still gives you the core G-Class personality.
