How much does the 2021 Mazda MAZDA6 cost?

Prices have softened 2.04% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

Is the 2021 Mazda MAZDA6 a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Mazda MAZDA6 earns a 5/5 user rating and an 8/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Performance, and Safety.

It stands out as a stylish, high-quality family sedan that puts driving enjoyment first, with premium interior materials and a distinctly athletic feel from behind the wheel. The trade-offs are that all-wheel drive is not available and the technology is dated, so you’re choosing character and polish over the newest convenience features.

The market also looks reasonably supportive, with 32.6% of listings priced as good or great deals.

Is the 2021 Mazda MAZDA6 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2021 Mazda MAZDA6 is presented as a well-equipped, confidence-inspiring sedan that Mazda builds to satisfy buyers rather than chase gimmicks. Its safety and driving dynamics are emphasized as strengths, and the expert commentary also points to a car that feels thoughtfully engineered and durable in everyday use.

The performance notes describe the car as smooth, predictable, and comfortable for commuting and highway driving, which supports the case for steady ownership. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright complexity and more about making sure the car has been maintained well and hasn’t been worn down by prior use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Mazda MAZDA6?

At 60% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of bodywork, alignment, and any signs of prior repair. It’s also smart to focus on the condition of the infotainment system and safety features, since the car’s age means those systems matter more in daily use. If you’re comparing listings, pay close attention to trim-specific equipment so you know whether you’re getting the features you want.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Sport and Touring use a 186-horsepower Skyactiv 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, while the rest get a turbocharged 250-hp version of that powerplant. The base setup is simpler, while higher trims add more premium equipment and a more upscale feel.
• Powertrain: Most versions use a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder, with output varying depending on fuel choice. It makes 250 hp and 320 pound-feet of torque on 93-octane fuel, or 227 hp and 310 lb-ft on 87-octane gas. The EPA says it gets 26 mpg in combined driving, and testing returned 26.1 mpg.
• Safety package: Every 2021 Mazda6 includes i-Activesense with adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, automatic high-beam headlights, and rain-sensing windshield wipers. Starting with the Grand Touring Reserve trim, it adds adaptive headlights, a wiper de-icer system, and an Active Driving Display. The Signature trim adds driver-attention alert, traffic-sign recognition, rear automatic braking, a surround-view camera system, and front and rear parking sensors.
• Infotainment: The system uses an 8-inch screen and includes Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, HD Radio, internet radio, text-messaging support, and E911 automatic emergency notification. Grand Touring trim and higher add wireless Apple CarPlay, while Android Auto remains wired. The Signature trim adds embedded navigation and three years of SiriusXM Travel Link services.
• Fuel efficiency: The Mazda6 Turbo gets 26 mpg in combined driving, and testing returned 26.1 mpg.

Which 2021 Mazda MAZDA6 trim should I buy?

The 2021 Mazda MAZDA6 is offered in 6 trim levels: Sport, Touring, Grand Touring, Grand Touring Reserve, Carbon Edition, and Signature.

Here's the short version:

• Sport: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Mazda6 experience with the 186-horsepower engine and the full i-Activesense safety suite. It makes sense if you want the style and driving feel without paying for extra luxury features.
• Touring: This trim keeps the same basic formula but adds more equipment while staying relatively accessible. It’s a good fit if you want a more rounded daily driver without jumping too far up the price ladder.
• Grand Touring: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it unlocks wireless Apple CarPlay, an 11-speaker Bose premium audio system, and the turbocharged engine. If you want the strongest mix of features and value, this is the trim to target.
• Grand Touring Reserve: This trim adds adaptive headlights, a wiper de-icer system, and an Active Driving Display, making it a stronger pick if you want more convenience and visibility tech.
• Carbon Edition: Based on the Grand Touring Reserve, this trim adds exclusive Polymetal Gray paint, red leather with contrast stitching, and black metallic wheels. Choose it if you want a more distinctive look and a richer cabin presentation.
• Signature: This is the luxury-leaning version, with premium Nappa leather, genuine Sen wood trim, LED interior lighting, an exclusive grille, embedded navigation, and the most complete safety-tech package. It suits you best if you want the most upscale Mazda6 possible.

The safety package starts with i-Activesense on every trim, while the Grand Touring Reserve and Signature add extra driver-assistance and visibility features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Mazda MAZDA6?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully rather than rush.

• Deal availability: 32.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 190 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.04% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 60.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $18,714, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Mazda MAZDA6's resale value?

The current average of $19,972 sits slightly below last year's $20,387.

That decline suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy more confidently now but may also mean slower appreciation if you plan to sell soon. For a future seller, the key takeaway is that the car’s value is being supported more by its appeal and condition than by broad market momentum. If you keep mileage reasonable and maintenance records organized, you’ll be in a better position to protect your return later.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Mazda MAZDA6 safe?

The 2021 Mazda MAZDA6 earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS and five-star ratings in nearly every assessment from NHTSA.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Mazda bundles its active safety features under the i-Activesense banner, and every 2021 Mazda6 includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, automatic high-beam headlights, and rain-sensing windshield wipers. Starting with the Grand Touring Reserve trim, it adds adaptive headlights, a wiper de-icer system, and an Active Driving Display, while the Signature trim adds driver-attention alert, traffic-sign recognition, rear automatic braking, a surround-view camera system, and front and rear parking sensors.

One caveat is that i-Activesense does not include a lane-centering function, which some rivals offer. Even so, the overall safety package is broad and well-rounded for a used midsize sedan.

Should I buy a 2021 Mazda MAZDA6 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 32.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 60% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.04% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 model stands out for its stylish design, premium interior materials, and fun-to-drive character, while also offering a broad standard safety suite.

The bottom line: If you want a midsize sedan that feels more special than most rivals, the 2021 Mazda MAZDA6 is the right direction to go. It gives you strong style, a rewarding driving experience, and a well-equipped safety package, so it makes sense for buyers who value character and quality. If you’re more price-sensitive, focus on the lower end of the market range and compare condition carefully, since accident history and trim differences matter a lot here.
