Is the 2021 Mazda CX-30 a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Mazda CX-30 earns a 4.8/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its sporty design, interior quality, and fun-to-drive character, and they also value the luxury feel at an affordable price. The overview frames it as a small crossover that blends mainstream practicality with a more premium feel, which fits shoppers who want style and everyday usability in one package.

The trade-offs are clear: the expert notes call out poor handling and fairly pedestrian performance, and visibility is also a weak point. Even so, the CX-30’s premium-leaning design and comfort make it a strong fit if you want a polished small SUV rather than a hard-edged performance model.

The market shows 36.2% good or great deals, so there are still attractive listings to be found.

Is the 2021 Mazda CX-30 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with praise centered on the CX-30’s quality feel and satisfying day-to-day use. The expert notes also describe the vehicle as delivering confidence and satisfaction, which supports the impression that it is built to be a car you can count on over time.

The ownership picture is helped by the model’s strong overall satisfaction, though used buyers should still verify maintenance history and condition carefully before committing.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Mazda CX-30?

At 74.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the cabin and electronics match the seller’s description. Because this model year has a meaningful accident history in the market, condition matters as much as mileage.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The cabin is described as upscale, with quality materials, complementary tones and textures, and stitched chocolate brown surfaces. Standard specification includes a choice of black or Griege leatherette upholstery, while Premium and Premium Plus add black or white leather, so base-trim shoppers should pay attention to the material and feature differences.
• Powertrain: The turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder pairs with a six-speed automatic transmission and standard i-Activ all-wheel drive. The setup is tuned for effortless acceleration and strong response, with official fuel economy of 25 mpg in combined driving.
• Safety package: Every CX-30 Turbo includes the i-ActiveSense advanced driver-assistance suite, plus mobile 9-1-1 automatic emergency notification. Premium trim adds adaptive front lighting, and Premium Plus adds front and rear parking sensors, rear automatic braking, a surround-view camera system, and Traffic Jam Assist.
• Infotainment: The dashboard features an 8.8-inch infotainment display that is not a touchscreen. Standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, and Mazda Connected Services adds remote engine start and a vehicle finder function. Premium and Premium Plus also add SiriusXM satellite radio, navigation, and a 12-speaker Bose audio system.
• Fuel efficiency: The CX-30 Turbo is rated at 25 mpg in combined driving, and the review notes an average of 24.1 mpg in testing.

Which 2021 Mazda CX-30 trim should I buy?

The 2021 Mazda CX-30 is offered in 3 trim levels: Premium, Premium Plus, and Turbo.

Here's the short version:

• Premium: This is the trim to target if you want the best balance of upscale feel and value. It adds adaptive front lighting, plus the premium audio, navigation, and head-up display equipment that make the CX-30 feel more luxury-like.
• Premium Plus: Choose this if you want the most complete feature set. It adds front and rear parking sensors, rear automatic braking, a surround-view camera system, and Traffic Jam Assist, making it the most fully equipped choice.
• Turbo: This is the right pick if you want the strongest acceleration and the most confident all-around driving feel. It also keeps the premium design and technology focus that define the model.

Every CX-30 Turbo includes the i-ActiveSense driver-assistance suite, and Premium Plus adds the most advanced parking and low-speed safety features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Mazda CX-30?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 36.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 927 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.64% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 74.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $19,010, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Mazda CX-30's resale value?

The current average of $19,081 sits slightly below last year's $20,222.

That softer pricing suggests the model has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price. A lower entry point today may reduce the amount of value left to lose over the next ownership cycle. Strong demand for a well-liked, premium-feeling small SUV can also help support used-market interest.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Mazda CX-30 safe?

The 2021 Mazda CX-30 earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), and it earns five-star ratings in every NHTSA assessment except rollover resistance, where it receives a four-star rating.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Mazda equips every CX-30 Turbo with the i-ActiveSense advanced driver-assistance suite, and the standard system is described as effective without being irritating. The suite includes the usual suspects, and every CX-30 Turbo also gets mobile 9-1-1 automatic emergency notification. Premium trim adds adaptive front lighting, while Premium Plus adds front and rear parking sensors, rear automatic braking, a surround-view camera system, and Traffic Jam Assist.

A notable caveat is the lower rollover rating compared with the rest of the NHTSA results, so that is worth keeping in mind if safety is your top priority.

Should I buy a 2021 Mazda CX-30 or consider a different year?

• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.64% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 CX-30 Turbo pairs effortless acceleration with premium design and impressive technologies.

Consider the 2020 if:

• It offers extra ground clearance and easier entry and exit.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $21,841, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $19,081 average.
