Used 2021 Kia Sportage for Sale nearKennewick, WA

How much does the 2021 Kia Sportage cost?

Prices have softened 8.44% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,851 listings available, which suggests you have a meaningful amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2021 Kia Sportage a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Kia Sportage earns a 4.8/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Owners most often praise its power, smooth ride, and array of features, and many also call out the AWD capability as a strong point. That lines up with the overview, which frames it as a compact crossover that suits city streets while still offering a stylish design and easy-to-use technology. The main trade-offs are fairly pedestrian performance and outdated technology, along with limited cargo space. For you, that means it makes the most sense if you value comfort, style, and warranty coverage more than the latest cabin tech or maximum utility. 33.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there is some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 Kia Sportage reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a reliable and comfortable choice for everyday use, with drivers specifically highlighting dependable AWD capability and a smooth ride. The expert testing notes that it is competent enough to stand up against competitors, especially when equipped with its turbocharged four-cylinder, and the great warranty adds another layer of confidence for ownership. Kia’s maintenance perk language is not included in the source material, but the overall package still suggests a vehicle you can count on for routine use. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a well-used example may show wear in cabin tech, ride quality, or cargo practicality rather than outright mechanical weakness.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Kia Sportage?

At 69.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are considering a lower-priced listing. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the cabin and technology still feel consistent with the mileage and asking price. Because this model’s appeal depends heavily on comfort, features, and everyday usability, condition matters a lot.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The cabin centers on an 8-inch touchscreen, physical buttons and knobs, and a pleasant interior layout, but the source also notes that the cabin is not especially tech- or fashion-forward. Base-trim equipment is strong for safety, but the higher trims add more convenience and premium touches.
• Powertrain: The 2.4-liter inline four-cylinder makes 181 horsepower and 175 pound-feet of torque, while the SX Turbo uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged GDI four-cylinder with 240 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. All versions use a six-speed automatic transmission.
• Safety package: Standard driver assistance includes forward-collision warning and pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping assist, automatic high beams, and a driver-monitoring system. Adaptive cruise control is added on the SX Turbo.
• Infotainment: The infotainment system uses an 8-inch touchscreen and includes Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, USB ports, and Kia’s UVO Link connected services on most trims. Wireless charging and an eight-speaker Harman Kardon premium audio system are included on SX Turbo trims.
• Fuel efficiency: FWD Sportages with the 2.4-liter engine are rated at 23 mpg city, 30 highway, and 26 combined. AWD versions drop to 21/25/23, while the turbocharged FWD and AWD versions are rated at 20/28/23 and 19/24/21, respectively.

Which 2021 Kia Sportage trim should I buy?

The 2021 Kia Sportage is offered in 3 trim levels: LX, EX, SX Turbo.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point, but it still brings the core safety suite, the 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, USB ports, and the easy-to-use cabin layout. It is the value play if you want the lowest-cost way into the Sportage without giving up the essentials.
• EX: This trim keeps the same 2.4-liter engine and adds a more upscale step up in equipment without moving into the turbo model’s higher price and performance focus. It is the best-value trim if you want a balanced mix of features and everyday usability.
• SX Turbo: This is the choice if you want the strongest performance, with the 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, plus wireless charging, an eight-speaker Harman Kardon premium audio system, and adaptive cruise control. It suits you best if you want the most capable and best-equipped Sportage.

The SX Turbo trims also enjoy Top Safety Pick status from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), thanks to their upgraded headlights.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Kia Sportage?

This looks like a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory to shop carefully and enough deal activity to find value.

• Deal availability: 33.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,851 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.44% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 69.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $15,892, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Kia Sportage's resale value?

The current average of $15,892 sits slightly below last year's $17,357.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make the Sportage more attractive to used buyers today but less favorable for a future seller trying to maximize proceeds. If you buy at the current average or below, you may have less room for appreciation later unless the vehicle is especially clean, well maintained, and lightly used. The good news is that a lower entry price can help cushion depreciation if you plan to keep it for several years.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Kia Sportage safe?

The 2021 Kia Sportage earns Top Safety Pick status from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), and all trim levels do well in crash tests administered by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes forward-collision warning and pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping assist, automatic high beams, and a driver-monitoring system. Adaptive cruise control is reserved for the SX Turbo, so that is one feature gap to keep in mind if you are comparing trims. The safety story is one of the Sportage’s strongest selling points, especially if you want a well-equipped base model.

Should I buy a 2021 Kia Sportage or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 33.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 69.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.44% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 model is competent enough to stand up against competitors, especially with the turbocharged four-cylinder.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $17,305, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $15,892 average.
• The 2022 adds a new Nightfall Edition and more updated feature content.

The bottom line: If you want the lower price and are comfortable shopping carefully, the 2021 is the better value path. If you want a newer version with more updates and are willing to pay more, the 2022 is the better alternative.
