overall

Summary
With 214 currently listed for sale near Cincinnati, OH and an average price of $26,935.00, 56.5% of 2021 Jeep Wranglers 4xe for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe 4.62 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 6.67 / 10.
94.9% of 2021 Wrangler 4xe models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe stands out by combining the Wrangler’s familiar go-anywhere character with plug-in hybrid capability. Its defining appeal is the promise of running the Rubicon in silence with instant electric-motor torque to help overcome obstacles. That makes it a distinctive choice for buyers who want off-road ability with a cleaner, more modern powertrain.
It also brings a practical side that fits the Wrangler’s adventurous image. The test-drive data highlights fuel efficiency, a powerful engine, and easy-to-use technology as strengths, while owners praise the blend of power and comfort, along with the family-friendly, well-equipped interior. At the same time, the 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe is not without tradeoffs: its electric range is unimpressive, it can be noisy, and its handling is poor.

I love this car. It’s definitely pretty fairly priced. My only hesitation is the discontinuation of the the 4XE models or Wrangler and Geand Cherokee.

Absolutely love everything about this vehicle except waiting on the recall parts to come in. Even with a month wait at this point, I’m still able to enjoy all the features and LOVE the electric component!

I love this Jeep High Altitude 4xe… for my family purposes, it’s both refined- and rough-enough. Has seats for 5 that I need. Has great power with the electric plus turbo-4. The all electric mode is super quiet and fine for most of our daily driving, including 27 mile range (need to use hybrid if you want to hustle a bit more). Highly recommend the car…

Yes — with a 4.62/5 user rating and a 6.67/10 expert rating, the 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe lands as a strong pick if you want Wrangler capability with plug-in hybrid appeal. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.
Owners consistently praise the blend of power and comfort, along with the family-friendly, well-equipped interior. They also highlight the electric and turbo features, which help the 4xe feel more capable and more enjoyable than a conventional Wrangler in daily use.
The trade-offs are clear: the electric range is unimpressive, it can be noisy, and handling is poor. That means you should view it as a specialty SUV first and a comfort-focused commuter second.
For you, the appeal is strongest if you want off-road ability with a cleaner, more modern powertrain and can live with the Wrangler’s rougher edges. The market still shows 30.3% good or great deals, so there’s room to shop carefully.
Is the 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe reliable?
Owners rate it 4.62/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable in the ways that matter most to shoppers who plan to keep it: strong power, comfort, and a well-equipped cabin that holds up well in everyday use. That kind of long-term enthusiasm usually matters more than a single feature when you’re evaluating a used SUV.
The expert drive notes also reinforce that the 4xe’s hybrid system is built around a turbocharged engine, electric motors, and a battery pack that work together in a straightforward way. Jeep also includes complimentary scheduled maintenance for three years through the Jeep Wave program, which helps reduce early ownership friction.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a plug-in hybrid Wrangler can be more complex than a standard gas model, so you should pay close attention to charging behavior, battery-related operation, and overall maintenance history.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still run a history report on any candidate, even if the listing looks clean at first glance. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that checks the hybrid system, charging equipment, and any signs of hard use, since this model is often bought for capability as much as commuting.
Focus on condition details that matter in a Wrangler: interior wear, evidence of off-road use, and whether the technology and driver-assistance features work properly. Because the 4xe is a plug-in hybrid, you should also confirm that it charges normally and that the electric driving behavior feels consistent.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Rubicon trim adds the most capability-focused hardware and controls, while the interior remains purposeful rather than luxurious. The Sahara and High Altitude trims are also offered, and the Sahara starts at a lower price point, so feature content and intended use matter a lot here.
- Powertrain: The 4xe pairs a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with an eight-speed automatic transmission, two electric motors, and a 17-kilowatt-hour battery pack. It delivers 49 MPGe combined in electric operation and 20 mpg combined as a hybrid, with 21 miles of estimated pure electric driving range.
- Safety package: The Safety Group includes blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic warning, and rear parking sensors. The Advanced Safety Group adds adaptive cruise control with full-stop capability, full-speed forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, and automatic high-beam headlights.
- Infotainment: The Uconnect system uses an 8.4-inch touchscreen and includes Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, navigation, SiriusXM Guardian connected services with a free one-year subscription, and available WiFi.
- Fuel efficiency: The 4xe is rated at 49 MPGe combined in electric operation and 20 mpg combined as a hybrid.
Which 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe trim should I buy?
The 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe is offered in 3 trim levels: Rubicon, Sahara, High Altitude.
Here's the short version:
- Rubicon: This is the most capability-focused choice, with the upgraded four-wheel drive system, electronic front and rear lockers, and the most rugged hardware. If you want the 4xe for serious trail use and don’t mind paying more for it, this is the trim that best matches the vehicle’s personality.
- Sahara: This is the value-oriented choice if you want the plug-in hybrid Wrangler experience without jumping straight to the most expensive setup. It gives you the 4xe’s core powertrain and everyday usability at a lower starting point than the higher trims.
- High Altitude: This is the most upscale-feeling option in the lineup, aimed at buyers who want the 4xe’s electrified powertrain with a more premium presentation.
The safety-package trims are straightforward: the Safety Group and Advanced Safety Group are available, but the features are basic rather than advanced by luxury-SUV standards.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay patient.
- Deal availability: 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,300 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 16.37% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 86.9% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $26,880.08, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe's resale value?
The current average of $26,868 sits slightly below last year's $32,125.
That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can work against a future seller if you buy at the wrong point in the cycle. On the other hand, it also means you may be entering at a more favorable price than buyers saw a year ago.
Because this model has a distinct plug-in hybrid identity and strong enthusiast appeal, demand should remain tied to how well it balances capability, efficiency, and condition. If you keep mileage reasonable and maintain the hybrid system carefully, you should be in a better position when it’s time to sell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.62/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe safe?
The Wrangler earns a four-star frontal-impact crash-test rating from NHTSA and a three-star rating for its ability to resist a rollover in a collision.
It earns a 4/10 safety score from our experts.
Jeep offers the Safety Group with blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic warning, and rear parking sensors, plus the Advanced Safety Group with adaptive cruise control with full-stop capability, full-speed forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, and automatic high-beam headlights. Those systems function as expected, and the blind-spot warning is especially useful given the Wrangler’s narrow side mirrors.
There are also important caveats. The standard headlights rate Poor by IIHS, while the LED headlights with automatic high beams rate Marginal. IIHS also gives the Wrangler a Marginal result for small-overlap frontal-impact protection for the driver.
Should I buy a 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
- 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 16.37% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.62/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2021 stands out for combining Wrangler capability with plug-in hybrid torque and a cleaner powertrain, while still offering the familiar go-anywhere character.
The bottom line: if you want the Wrangler 4xe’s unique mix of off-road ability and electrified driving, the 2021 is the year to target, especially if you can find a clean example with a strong price. If you’re more price-sensitive, keep shopping listings carefully and focus on the best deal rather than stretching for a higher-priced trim.
