Is the 2021 Jeep Renegade a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Jeep Renegade earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.17/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Technology at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its great value, comfortable and fun driving experience, and the variety of features it offers. The Jeep styling and elevated seating position also come through as recurring positives, especially if you want a small SUV that feels distinctive and easy to see out of.

The trade-offs are clear: the base engine is underwhelming, and the transmission can be irritating. That said, the Renegade’s practical utility and intuitive technology fit well if you want an approachable daily driver with some adventure-ready character.

Good and great deals account for 33.2% of listings, so you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 Jeep Renegade reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable in everyday use, with many shoppers highlighting its great value and comfortable driving experience. The review summary also emphasizes the variety of features and the kind of ownership experience that makes the Renegade easy to live with over time.

On the expert side, it’s described as a functional daily drivable crossover with practical utility and the ability to occasionally get off the beaten path. That combination suggests a used example can be a sensible long-term choice if you prioritize versatility and straightforward usability.

If you’re buying used, the main long-term risk is that drivetrain quirks and condition-related wear can matter more than the badge itself, so a careful test drive is important.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Jeep Renegade?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 75.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the vehicle history report carefully, because accident-free status is only one part of the picture. A pre-purchase inspection is especially important if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with off-road use. Focus on overall condition, drivetrain behavior, and whether the equipment on the specific trim matches what you expect.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Sport starts with push-button start, dual-zone climate control, a USB port, and a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Higher trims add convenience and appearance upgrades, while the Limited brings leather upholstery, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and a power-adjustable driver’s seat. The Trailhawk is the capability-focused choice with skid plates, tow hooks, a lifted suspension, all-terrain tires, and an upgraded 4WD system.
• Powertrain: You can choose between a 2.4-liter four-cylinder with 180 horsepower and 175 pound-feet of torque, or a turbocharged 1.3-liter four-cylinder with 177 horsepower and 210 pound-feet of torque. The turbo engine is the more refined option and delivers stronger torque, while the base engine is less impressive.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-path detection. The Trailhawk is the exception for automatic emergency braking. Adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, and front and rear parking sensors still cost extra.
• Infotainment: The standard screen is 7 inches, while an 8.4-inch touchscreen is optional on some mid-tier trims and standard on higher trims. Both versions use Uconnect and include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
• Fuel efficiency: The most efficient version is the 1.3-liter turbo with FWD at 24 mpg city, 32 highway, 27 combined. The 2.4-liter with FWD returns 22 mpg city, 30 highway, 25 combined.

Which 2021 Jeep Renegade trim should I buy?

The 2021 Jeep Renegade is offered in 8 trim levels: Sport, Jeepster, Latitude, Upland, 80th Anniversary, Islander, Limited, and Trailhawk.

Here's the short version:

• Sport: This is the entry point and gives you the core Renegade experience with push-button start, dual-zone climate control, a USB port, and the 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the lineup.
• Jeepster: This trim adds keyless passive entry, remote start, 19-inch alloy wheels, and unique badging while keeping much of the Sport’s equipment. It’s a good fit if you want a little more convenience and style without moving too far upmarket.
• Latitude: The Latitude keeps the same basic formula but adds an extra USB port and 17-inch alloy wheels, and it opens up more option packages. This is the best-value trim if you want a balanced mix of equipment and flexibility.
• Upland: This adventure-minded trim adds beefed-up skid plates and a unique front bumper, and it comes exclusively with 4WD. Choose it if you want a more rugged look and some extra trail-ready hardware.
• 80th Anniversary: This version adds 19-inch alloy wheels, HD radio, and the larger 8.4-inch touchscreen with navigation. It’s the pick if infotainment and appearance upgrades matter to you.
• Islander: The Islander focuses on special-edition style with exclusive hood graphics, white roof panels, a panoramic moonroof, and a unique color palette. It’s for shoppers who want the most distinctive look.
• Limited: The Limited is the luxury-oriented trim with leather upholstery, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, remote start, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and standard 4WD. It’s the best choice if comfort is your priority.
• Trailhawk: This is the capability-focused trim with skid plates, tow hooks, a lifted suspension, all-terrain tires, and an upgraded 4WD system. It’s the right pick if you want the most off-road-ready Renegade.

For safety, Jeep made previously optional features standard across the lineup, but the Trailhawk is the exception for automatic emergency braking.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Jeep Renegade?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 33.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,528 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.36% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 75.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $16,217, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Jeep Renegade's resale value?

The current average of $16,217 sits slightly below last year's $18,091.

That price movement suggests the Renegade has become more accessible for buyers, which can help demand in the near term. For a future seller, that also means your resale outcome will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim, since the market is already pricing in some depreciation.

If you own a well-kept example with desirable equipment, you may be better positioned than the average listing. Higher-demand trims and clean history records should help support stronger resale interest.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Jeep Renegade safe?

The 2021 Jeep Renegade earns four-star ratings from NHTSA in crash tests.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Jeep made automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-path detection standard across the lineup. Adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, and front and rear parking sensors still cost extra, and the Trailhawk is the exception for automatic emergency braking.

That standard safety equipment is a meaningful strength for this model year, but the four-star NHTSA result is worth keeping in mind if crash-test performance is a top priority.

Should I buy a 2021 Jeep Renegade or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 33.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 75.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.36% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds standard advanced safety features and intuitive technology across the lineup.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $14,629, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $16,217 average.
• It leans harder into personality and Trail Rated capability.

The bottom line: If you want the better-balanced shopping target, the 2021 is the stronger pick because it combines softer pricing, strong owner satisfaction, and improved standard safety equipment. If your priority is spending less upfront, the 2020 can still make sense, especially if you value Jeep character and trail-ready personality over the newer model year’s broader safety content.
