overall

Summary
With 125 currently listed for sale and an average price of $24,629, 23.2% of 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L 4.89 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.83 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L stands out as Jeep’s first three-row SUV in more than a decade, giving the brand a family-oriented option it had been missing. That alone makes it distinctive, but it also aims to deliver more than extra seating. The available test-drive impressions point to great handling, premium interior materials, and impressive technology, which helps the Grand Cherokee L feel more upscale and more polished than a simple utility-focused SUV.
It is not without drawbacks, though. The base engine is described as underwhelming, advanced safety features are not standard, and fuel economy is poor. Even so, the overall appeal is clear: it combines the practicality of a third row with the kind of ride quality, interior feel, and technology that can make it attractive to buyers looking for a more refined family SUV.

This car is on reasonable cost always. Great design. Comparing to BMW X5 or X7, Audi Q7, Volkswagen Tuareg or Atlas, Jeep Grand Cher is much better, cheaper and the maintenance cost is more lower. Very good, powerful and reliable engine. I use Grand Cherokee 2016, and I am planning to buy Grass Cherokee L 2022 model

Is the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L a good car?
Yes — with a 4.89/5 user rating and an expert rating of 7.83/10, it lands as a strong choice for many used-SUV shoppers.
The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Technology.
Drivers consistently praise the comfortable ride, spacious cabin, and high-tech features. The feedback also points to strong handling, useful performance in snow, and family-friendly value.
The main trade-offs are the underwhelming base engine and the fact that advanced safety features are not standard. The overview also frames it as a three-row SUV that aims to feel more refined and upscale than a basic utility vehicle, which matters if you want something that can serve as both a family hauler and a more premium daily driver.
With 34.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have room to shop selectively.
Is the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L reliable?
Owners rate it 4.89/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback points to a comfortable, dependable-feeling SUV that many owners feel good about living with over time. The review summary also highlights family value and a trouble-free ownership impression centered on comfort, space, and useful technology.
The expert drive notes that Jeep’s ownership program includes three free oil changes and tire rotations within the first 36 months, plus roadside assistance during the powertrain warranty period.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure the specific vehicle has been maintained well, since higher-tech features and more complex hardware can be costly if neglected.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 83% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still run a history report on every candidate, even if the listing looks clean at first glance. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that checks the suspension, electronics, and any signs of uneven wear or prior bodywork. Focus on condition, because this SUV’s appeal depends heavily on how well its premium features and materials have held up.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The lineup includes Laredo, Altitude, Limited, Overland, Summit, and Summit Reserve. The base trims are the most straightforward, while higher trims add more upscale materials and technology; the Summit stands out for its quilted and perforated leather, real wood trim, and richer equipment.
- Powertrain: Every model uses a 3.6-liter V6 with 293 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic. Rear-wheel drive is standard, and multiple 4WD systems are available. A 5.7-liter V8 is optional on Overland, Summit, and Summit Reserve with 4WD only.
- Safety package: Active Driving Assist combines adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability and lane-centering assistance. Intersection Collision Assist is standard on Summit models, and Parallel and Perpendicular Park Assist is available. Advanced safety features are not standard across the lineup.
- Infotainment: Uconnect 5 is offered with 8.4-inch or 10.1-inch touchscreens. It includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Alexa compatibility, satellite radio, a 4G LTE WiFi hotspot, and natural voice recognition.
- Fuel efficiency: The V6 is rated at 21 mpg combined, while the V8 is rated at 17 mpg combined. In testing, the Summit 4WD returned 17.8 mpg on a mixed loop.
Which 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L trim should I buy?
The 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L is offered in 6 trim levels: Laredo, Altitude, Limited, Overland, Summit, and Summit Reserve.
Here's the short version:
- Laredo: This is the entry point if you want the Grand Cherokee L’s three-row packaging and core capability without paying for the upper-trim luxury extras. It makes sense if you care most about getting into the model at the lowest price.
- Altitude: This trim adds a more distinctive appearance and a step up in presentation over the Laredo, while keeping the lineup relatively accessible. It suits you if you want a little more style without jumping too far up the price ladder.
- Limited: This is the best-value trim. The cost-effectiveness section specifically recommends it as the sweet spot for style, equipment, and value, making it the one most shoppers should start with.
- Overland: This trim moves you into a more upscale and more capable setup, and it is also one of the trims that can get the optional V8. It fits you if you want more luxury and stronger available power.
- Summit: This trim brings a richer cabin and more advanced equipment, including standard Intersection Collision Assist. It is a good fit if you want a more premium feel and more safety tech.
- Summit Reserve: This is the top-end choice for shoppers who want the most luxurious version of the Grand Cherokee L. It makes the most sense if you want the fullest feature set and are comfortable paying for it.
The safety content notes that advanced driver-assistance features are not standard across the lineup, so check carefully for the exact equipment on the trim you’re considering.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.
- Deal availability: 34.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,862 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.79% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 83.0% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $25,917, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L's resale value?
The current average of $25,917 sits slightly below last year's $29,717.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. For a future seller, that also means resale value will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment, since the broader market has softened from where it was a year ago.
Well-kept examples with desirable trims and strong feature content should hold up better than stripped or heavily worn ones. If you buy carefully now, you improve your odds of getting a stronger return later.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.89/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L safe?
The 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Active Driving Assist is the named driver-assistance suite. It combines adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability and lane-centering assistance, and Jeep also offers Intersection Collision Assist plus Parallel and Perpendicular Park Assist. Intersection Collision Assist is standard on Summit models, so safety equipment can vary by trim.
The expert review notes that Active Driving Assist works well in adaptive cruise control but feels less natural in steering assist, so it is helpful to know that the system is good rather than class-leading. Crash-test ratings were unavailable in the review text, so you should lean more heavily on the vehicle’s equipment list and your own inspection of the exact trim you’re considering.
Should I buy a 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 34.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 83% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.79% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.89/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It’s the first Grand Cherokee L, bringing Jeep’s three-row family SUV into the lineup.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $27,880, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $25,917 average.
- It adds wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2021 is the smarter starting point because pricing has eased and inventory is healthy. If you’re willing to pay more for a newer model year and a small feature bump, the 2022 is worth a look. For price-sensitive buyers, the 2021 Limited remains the trim to target first.
