What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Honda Odyssey?

At 65% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are comparing multiple listings at similar prices. Focus on condition details that matter in a family minivan, including interior wear, seat operation, and signs of heavy use. If you want the best value, compare equipment carefully so you do not overpay for features you will not use.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Base LX trim gets standard LED headlights with automatic high-beam operation and Honda Sensing, while EX trim adds the blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning system and the 8-inch touchscreen infotainment setup.
• Powertrain: The 3.5-liter V6 with a ten-speed automatic sends power to the front wheels, delivers 280 horsepower, and includes Normal, Sport, Econ, and Snow driving modes plus variable cylinder management.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard and includes low-speed follow capability for adaptive cruise control, pedestrian braking, road-sign recognition, and a dashboard menu button for quick access to ADAS settings. Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning requires at least EX trim.
• Infotainment: Starting with EX trim, you get an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, satellite radio, HD Radio, text-messaging support, basic HondaLink connectivity, and the Cabin Control smartphone app. Touring adds navigation, WiFi capability, CabinWatch, and CabinTalk, while Elite adds an 11-speaker premium sound system, multi-zone listening options, and wireless smartphone charging.
• Fuel efficiency: The EPA says it should get 22 mpg in combined driving, and testing returned 21.8 mpg.

Which 2021 Honda Odyssey trim should I buy?

The 2021 Honda Odyssey is offered in 5 trim levels: LX, EX, EX-L, Touring, and Elite.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point, and it already gives you standard LED headlights with automatic high-beam operation and Honda Sensing, so it covers the essentials if you want the lowest-cost way into the lineup.
• EX: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus the blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning system.
• EX-L: This trim is the natural step up if you want more comfort and a more upscale feel without jumping all the way to the tech-heavy upper trims.
• Touring: Choose this if you want navigation, WiFi capability, CabinWatch, CabinTalk, and the rear-seat entertainment system.
• Elite: This is the most luxurious version, adding perforated leather upholstery with contrast stitching and piping, ambient lighting, an 11-speaker premium sound system, multi-zone listening options, and wireless smartphone charging.

Honda Sensing is standard on base LX trim, but blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning still requires at least EX trim.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Honda Odyssey?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile options.

• Deal availability: 36.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,381 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.55% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 65.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $25,872, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Honda Odyssey's resale value?

The current average of $25,872 sits slightly below last year's $27,684.

That softer pricing can help you buy in at a more favorable point, but it also means future resale gains may be more limited if the market stays soft. If you plan to sell later, the current trend suggests you should focus on buying a clean, well-kept example so you have the best chance of holding value. Strong condition and desirable equipment matter more when prices are already easing.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Honda Odyssey safe?

The 2021 Honda Odyssey earns a Top Safety Pick recommendation from IIHS and earns five-star ratings for every NHTSA assessment aside from rollover resistance, for which it earns a four-star score.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is standard, and it includes low-speed follow capability for adaptive cruise control, pedestrian braking, road-sign recognition, and a dashboard menu button for quick access to ADAS settings. Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning is not standard on the base trim and requires at least EX trim. The expert review also notes that the ADAS works accurately, though not always as smoothly as you might wish.

Should I buy a 2021 Honda Odyssey or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 36.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 65% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.55% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 brings improved safety, upgraded technology, enhanced utility, and freshened styling.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $28,205, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $25,872 average.
• It keeps the Odyssey’s light, effortless driving character while making no changes.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2021 is the smarter starting point because prices have eased and inventory is solid. If you are willing to pay more for a newer model year with the same basic formula, the 2022 is the cleaner alternative.
